What is the most pain you have ever experienced?

I’ve had some pretty nasty migraines & my c section recovery wasn’t the nicest.

What’s the worst pain you’ve ever been in and how long did it last?

Perforated stomach ulcer, so acid was leaking into my abdomen. Excruciatingly painful. Had emergency surgery and was so glad to be given anaesthetic to take the pain away.

Having my last coil removed. I could feel it tearing me as it came out. I fainted twice during the removal. No pain relief as it's a minor procedure Hmm.

Dr and nurse utterly unsympathetic - apparently the injuries were superficial. Had to ring DH to help me walk home from the Doctors surgery as I felt so bad. Fainted on the way back home, thankfully just near the house and DH had to carry me to bed with blood running down my legs. I bled for 2 weeks after.

Childbirth was "easy" by comparison.

@JufusMum

Gallstones and pancreatitis, at the same time Shock
Yes, this. And I had the pancreatitis for over four days before anyone took me seriously. I was being sick every 20 minutes the whole time, unable to keep down even a sip of water so it was just stomach lining and acid. Every time I retched, it’d set the gallstone pain off. I remember getting out my life insurance details, I was so unwell.
GreyTriangleCatEars · 04/10/2021 00:53

Ear infection which went untreated as the GP kept ignoring me, resulted in partial hearing loss

Sinus infection, I had to have morphine it was that bad

Childbirth wasn't that painful for me but the recovery was, I ended up having a 3rd degree Epitome and had 16 stitches, was scared of using the toilet from either side for weeks my insides literally felt like they were hanging on for dear life.

Recovering from open gallbladder surgery/pancreatitis/emergency c section all at once-couldn't barely roll over in bed and the gallbladder pain before the surgery was agony

Washeduponthebeach · 04/10/2021 05:41

Actually the absolute worst pain was having a baby with shoulder dystocia. Having tried everything they could ( forceps, ventouse) the Doctor had to jank the baby out manually. I was absolutely screaming . Saved. both our lives though.
@PhilCornwall1 are we the same person? Grin

It's a big old bunch of shit, isn't it.
Grinwhen I read your post, I immediately thought the same thing.

It certainly makes life a little challenging doesn't it.

Gall stones and pancreatitis

Closely followed by badly broken ankle.

Do you think we are conditioned to forget labour pains? I know it hurt but didn't seem nearly as bad as the other issues.

Redannie118 · 04/10/2021 14:50

@SquarePeggyLeggy totally feel you. I was badly constipated after breast surgery last year. After 3 days i took Laxido and ended up with an impacted poo. Ive never known pain like it, it was worse than labour. Shivers, nausea and the worst cramps i had ever had. Trying to pass it i split and screamed the house down in agony. I finally had to stick a hot washcloth up there and drag it out, screaming in pain. Afterwards i was in shock and couldnt even walk. I have a pretty high pain threshold, i broke my foot and nose a few years and didnt even know till I had an xray for something unrelated and they saw it. Until this happened i could never have imagined pooing could be so painful i seriously thought i was dying :(

BorisTheBellendPM · 04/10/2021 18:09

Cluster headache omg the pain, I was banging my head off the floor asking DH for more painkillers so I could overdose to get some relief.

Gallstones. The paaaaiiiiiin. It's only happened once (so far) but I am living on my nerves every time I get a little niggle in the shoulder area which is where it started.

Some sort of rectal/ bowel pain which we still don't know the cause of. It's happened a few times and I am floored, can't move and inch and doing breathing techniques usually used for labour. It feels like someone is wringing my bowel out like a washcloth and the pain/pressure at the top of my rectum is awful. Although I think I'd rather have that than gallstones.
@Alpenguin I have the same and have found the curable app a godsend.. I don't work for them.

In my case worse pain endometriosis flares..it feels like someone has filled your insides with barbed wire and poured in some battery acid for good measure.. the wire tightens and pulls and the acid works through your bladder and you pelvic area.. add in a few days of lightning crotch and being ignored by most medical professionals and it's not something I'd wish on my worse enemy.

Saying all of the above my mum suffered with endometriosis her whole life and told me gall stones were the worse.
I tried that after my mum raved about it. It didn’t help at all. I’ve been to pain management clinics and that didn’t work either. I live daily with arthritis so am good a coping with pain but have never felt anything like this in my life and hope never to again. Even gallstones were nothing like the covid pain I felt.

Goldenphoenix · 04/10/2021 20:44

Torn rotator cuff pain was horrible, a really burny pain.

A very rapid childbirth really was agonising.

The worst though was a reaction to some meds that made all my joints swell up. Could barely move and was sick with the pain of that.

Bowel pain is horrible too, when I had a severe stricture it was awful. Hmm, fun times!

Alpenguin · 04/10/2021 20:46

@BorisTheBellendPM have a look at pelvic floor spasm for the bowel/bum pain - I ended up passed out on a cafe floor and taken to a&e in an ambulance and they said it was my pelvic floor going into spasm. If it’s that there are some techniques for coping with it but buscopan is also your friend!

Losing my mum.

altiara · 04/10/2021 21:03

Gallstones and pancreatitis. Got bad enough that I went to hospital and had to stay for 2 weeks with morphine on tap.

passionfruitpizza · 04/10/2021 21:14

Migraine, one of the ones where you black out on the bathroom floor while vomiting. A couple of times I've wanted to die the pain has been so bad. Had two kids and the excruciating pain of that comes nowhere close to my worst migraines 😬

coffeepleeease · 04/10/2021 21:16

Childbirth - I'd say my pain threshold is generally high but I absolutely hated every second of childbirth and found it unbearable. So much so I'm not having any more children

BorisTheBellendPM · 04/10/2021 21:17

@Alpenguin that's very interesting as I do have problems with bladder etc although all scans have come back normal. Thank you I'll get a better read up on it tonight.

TatoAndBeans · 04/10/2021 21:30

Back to back, ultimately obstructed labour. I honestly felt like someone was sawing my legs off.

Crispynoodle · 04/10/2021 21:31

I've had major surgery, have rheumatoid arthritis and recently broken my arm (mid-shaft humerus) also had cholecystitis (gallbladder) and it's removal as well as birthing 4 children. By FAR the absolute worse pain was having a stent in my urethra in order to pass a kidney stone. I needed proper regular morphine for that one!

TwinMum35 · 04/10/2021 21:35

A HysteroSalpingoGram where they accidentally loaded up saline rather than contrast dye… so she pumped a shitload in wondering why nothing was showing on the x-ray…😬

I had taken paracetamol only and it felt like I was being gutted with a knife. I thought I was dying in those few minutes. I was screaming an animal scream of pure fight or flight while three nurses held me down. I was ejected without being checked and was in medical shock…

I don’t think I will ever recover from the ptsd.

BippityBoppity87 · 04/10/2021 21:39

Top ones probably have to be, in no particular order;

Back to back labour
Abscess followed by botched root canal
Torn ligament in my knee
UTI

Spottybluepyjamas · 04/10/2021 21:44

Back to back labour

RolloTomassi · 04/10/2021 21:48

Oh, labour. Extremely long and relentlessly, unbearably painful. I thought my pain threshold was decent but it shocked me how bad it was. Felt tortuous.

Tooth extraction with no pain relief as a child was very traumatic. The childbirth is fresher in my mind but I'd still probably sign up for another couple of day's labour than an hour in the chair with that sadist!
