Lovely neighbour just bought my toddler to me :( He escaped while I was on a work call, I didn't realise my partner had left the door unlocked. I feel absolutely sick.

@TheFairPrincess

How did a child that young reach the door handle, though? confused

Exactly!! I honestly had no idea he could reach the front door handle.

My youngest was ten months old when I first watched, aghast, as he successfully opened a door. He's now 1 and has mastered door handles.

These things happen. My DF tells a story of how my brother, at a similar age to your DS, escaped through the back door at my Aunt's house and feel into the pond. The story goes that DF stood up to stretch and happened to catch sight of him through the window- he legged it to the back door but there was no sign of DB when he got there. He says if he'd stood up five seconds later he'd not have seen anything amiss and the thought still gives him chills.

As it was, he ran to the pond, saw DB under the water and pulled him straight out. Parenting is full of near-misses.

I rode up to the shops on my tricycle when I was 3 (I'm 53 now) quarter of a mile! I was intrepid and I needed sweets although I hadn't thought to pack any cash, but I've always had a winning smile. Our kindly neighbour caught me as I peddled past.

Give yourself a break OP, small kids are pickles.
