Previously undecided voters would you vote for Starmer's Labour now?

Are there any previously Tory voters or undecided voters who would now consider voting Labour in a GE based on Kier Starmer's speech and him taking on the far left of the party?

I vote Labour anyway but I'm interested if any of his speech "cut through" as they say. To my eyes the main heckler just came across like a complete loony and made Kier Starmer's stance look even more sensible.

Absolutely not.

Marguerite2000 · 30/09/2021 14:15

I haven't heard his speech, and don't care.
David Lammy ended any hopes of me ever voting labour again. Even though I'm in one of those categories that should benefit from a labour government I'm not going to vote for a party that thinks I should be happy to give my rights up.

Pinkspecs · 30/09/2021 14:16

No, politically homeless, I previously voted labour.
I can't vote for them as they don't respect women's rights.

Yes, would never have voted for Labour under Corbyn.

I may disagree with them on a few issues, but the greater importance of helping the NHS, universal credit etc outweighs them.

Waspie · 30/09/2021 14:31

Nope. I am still politically homeless.

As others have said - if they can't respect my sex, they won't get my X.

TheUnbearable · 30/09/2021 14:37

I have been able to vote for 37 years, I have voted Labour many times. But absolutely will not anymore.

VinylQueen · 30/09/2021 14:40

If you're someone saying you long you get rid of the Tories, but you can't vote Labour based on their stance on sex...

I don't get this? I understand the issue is of fundamental importance to you, but I don't understand how it trumps the horrors that would come of more years of story rule, on women's lives and the lives of all marginalised people. Isn't it worth getting a more socially caring government in first before then challenging them in their stance on women?

(Obviously this only applies if you're someone who would otherwise vote Labour).

@VeryLongBeeeeep

I'm a lifelong Labour voter but I can't vote for any party who doesn't know, or pretends not to know, what 51% of the population is.
Exactly.
RealhousewifeofBarnardCastle · 30/09/2021 14:44

I will never vote labour while they won’t agree that only women gave cervixes.

Because if we vote in a party that won't recognise us, what's to stop them erroding us further.

I don't want to live my life as a cervix haver. So won't vite for a government who want to do just that.

My identity, my attributes, my sex denied.

No.

Narutocrazyfox · 30/09/2021 14:46

Previous labour voters on this thread - try sending this thread to your local Labour MP, who knows, it may make one or two of them sit up and listen?!?

Although based on past experience probably not... Which is exactly how Labour have gotten themselves into this position in the first place 😂

CuriousaboutSamphire · 30/09/2021 14:49

@Flingingmelon

'Don't respect my sex ? You don't get my X.'

This is going on my ballot. Also politically homeless.

I may join you. Politically homeless since I sent my membership backii n a long ranty letter - which garnered no response.

I could get some posters done up with that as a slogan...

MarshaBradyo · 30/09/2021 14:51

I’m glad they’re moving position but based on policies that I’ve heard, no.

Because we can ride out more years of shit, we will do anyway.

But I am not voting for a party that will use its term to strip away the menaing of woman and therefore undermine all womens rights. Undoing that would take more lifetimes than I have and I would have no means of circumventing it.

There has to be a way of telling MPs, men, TRAs, women, everyone, that this apparently amusing debate is absolutely central to every aspect of their lives. If you cannot define a thing you cannot protect it or guard against it. No part of your life would be free of the insanity of not being able to legally define a woman as adult human female, or a man as adult human male.

It isn't 'hysteria' it is a horrified realisation of just how far this would change the laws we live within.

AlfonsoTheDinosaur · 30/09/2021 14:54

What's so "socially caring" about trampling over women's rights?Confused

The Labour Party is the ONLY major UK political party that has never had a woman leader. They have never cared about women: once you see it, you cannot unsee it. For the men-y, not for you.

Neither does Keir Starmer, which is why Labour will keep losing.

They're not going to come and speak to me personally are they, they throw this out as a policy and if they win an election then it will be seen as a popular policy.
Isn't this one of the problems with this movement, people feel they can't speak out, it looks popular on the surface and anyone who speaks up is publicly shamed and read the riot act with the fabricated suicide stats and tales of oppression dumped onto them. A win will look like people agree with that and really why would they grow spines and change if they think thought that this was one of the reason they got there.
If there was an election next year I would be spoiling.
WB205020 · 30/09/2021 14:56

i used to work with Kier Starmer when he was a Barrister and i can honestly say he a genuine, trustworthy, nice person and when he took the reins from Corbyn i was excited at what he could bring to the table.

As much as a liked working with Kier and called him a close colleague I have been less than impressed and do not think he is the right person or would be a good PM. I thought he would be and in fairness he would be a million miles better than Corbyn or even BoJo but my initial thought having known him was that he could be a Blair sort of person where he reinvigorates the LP and takes them to a new level. As i say i have not been impressed so far and do not think he will last which is sad because as a person and barrister, you couldnt ask for better!

Hoppinggreen · 30/09/2021 14:56

There was a lot I liked about his speech
However, I vote for policies not based on 1 speech so no, I won’t be voting Labour.
No idea who to vote for in fact

Clarice99 · 30/09/2021 15:00

No chance.

Starmer is a fully paid up member of the misogyny club Angry

hedgehogger1 · 30/09/2021 15:02

I've emailed them today to tell them they've lost my vote. I'm sure they won't give a shit

Purpletomato · 30/09/2021 15:05

I'm a lifelong Labour voter and I despise Johnson. I won't be voting Labour this time. I'm a woman with a young daughter and their stance on women's rights has become a non negotiable massive issue for me over recent years, this conference has shown me I can't vote for them any more until they change.
Don't respect my sex, don't expect my X.

No. Women are fed up with #BeKind. Where does it get us? (answer: back of the queue)
