Previously undecided voters would you vote for Starmer's Labour now?

Are there any previously Tory voters or undecided voters who would now consider voting Labour in a GE based on Kier Starmer's speech and him taking on the far left of the party?

I vote Labour anyway but I'm interested if any of his speech "cut through" as they say. To my eyes the main heckler just came across like a complete loony and made Kier Starmer's stance look even more sensible.

Floating voter here, think Labour are either totally weak (Starmer) or loony and unelectable (Raynor). Not a chance in hell they would get my vote if there was an imminent GE.

SapatSea · 30/09/2021 12:42

NO - his speech was word soup and way too long. He's not a convincing "salesman". He needs to court the press better with snappy slogans etc. The review of his speech was way down the DailyMail listings, even the Gaurdian and it's top commentators responding to it was decidely lukewarm. I personallly detested TB from the outset but he did convince (swing and MC) voters to go along with him. Everyone knows BJ is a b*tard but If KS wants to be seen as the principled, man with a vision he needs to up his game, at least employ better speech writers/advisors. His "contributory" society idea makes it sound like workers will be gouged even more. He looks like a guy who can't cope with the big job and is floundering.

I think losing all the Labour seats in Scotland has made it incredibly difficult for Labour to win.

I'm surprised more hasn't been made of KS time at the DPS by the opposition (perhaps they are holding it in reserve for an election). When appointed he talked all the right talk to women's groups about prosecuting abusers and then mucked up on John Worboys, failed the Rochdale girls (and others) and presided over a dramatic drop in taking rape cases to trial - I could go on... For anyone interested this article gives an overview

As I'm a woman, absolutely no way will labour get my vote!

And the 'hecklers' were probably plants.

Agree with the majority of posters here. I have always voted Labour but unless they do a complete 180 on their position on women’s rights I cannot vote for them. I would even vote conservative if they say they will protect women’s rights. That is something I never thought I would say. But women’s rights are too important to me. I will vote based on this single issue. Politically homeless over here too.

Alekto · 30/09/2021 12:50

@Hyperion100

If you have previously voted labour but dont like starmer and wont vote for him...with the FPTP electoral system we have, you are enabling another term under the tories.

We're very well aware of that. It is not women's fault that the Labour Party have become openly misogynist and gynophobic, increasing the risks to our physical and psychological safety.

If Labour want to insult and erase us as a political and legal sex class, they can do without our votes.

No

Let alone the cervix comments

'Don't respect my sex ? You don't get my X.'

This is going on my ballot. Also politically homeless.

Well... I could in theory consider voting Labour...

But...

I can't quite grasp the pencil in my tiny little tyrannosaur hands... 🦖

Empressofthemundane · 30/09/2021 12:57

Speech was too long. So was the essay. Can’t remember what points there were that I might have liked.

I do have the message loud and clear about how much Labour value women though. I’d be a fool to vote for them.

Theflamingnerd · 30/09/2021 12:57

Not s chance in hell

I held my nose and voted Labour last time, definitely not again.

It's not just women's rights that will be flushed away here, it's gay rights, freedom of speech, freedom of thought. I won't vote for any party that condones gaslighting on a grand scale like this and bans critical thinking. It's dangerous.

Generallystruggling · 30/09/2021 13:04

I voted for Miliband and Corbyn, I’m not voting for Starmer. He isn’t labour, he’s another Tory in disguise like Blair. Yes, the country may largely be right wing hence Blair’s success but I am not. I’m politically homeless tbh, I think my only option is to spoil next time.

Same here. Being a woman is so fundamental to my self - not my “identity” as I don’t believe in “gender identity” - that I don’t think I’ll ever get over the total disrespect of politicians like Lammy dismissing it shoutily as a fringe issue that no-one cares about.

The ingrained misogyny of the angry surprise at how dare uppity women care about their rights, what old dinosaurs they are; while he is keen to pursue affirmative action for black men (no problem with identifying those penis people I see!) is so unbelievably hypocritical.

Same goes for al of the rest of them. I can’t think of a single Labour shadow frontbencher that I’d trust in government, now.

I hate the Tories and LDs, and am a former Labour Party member (have never voted anything else my entire life), but I can’t support Labour any longer. It doesn’t represent me or real progressive values - just virtue signalling and let’s pretend.

Tomnooktoldmeto · 30/09/2021 13:05

I’m a mythical floating voter, been voting 34 years now and always for the winner

I really really want to vote for Kier, I believe he’s sincere, But…

As a woman I can’t get behind a party that has thrown our sex under the bus. We fought so hard and long for OUR rights that to support a party who believes in the ultimate misogyny where men (trans women) tell us women to shut up as they’ve spoken and we’re not women is a bridge too far for me, it is the ultimate betrayal

Kier stated that he wanted to protect women and girls in law, perhaps if he started by protecting the term Woman for women before we are erased from history I would be able to vote for him

Kier has made the party once again safe for the Jewish community something I applaud, now listen to us women kier if you want to win

drum123 · 30/09/2021 13:15

I can't vote Labour either, till they wake up to the fact that being so woke means they are on the wrong side of history and losing votes because of it. And it's not single issue politics either. Women's rights to equality, fairness and safety cut across every single area that politics is involved in - education, health, justice, transport, sport, EVERYTHING!

He isnt , i hate Blair because of the Iraq, war but you cannot deny he had charisma and was personable, He really made people believe that things really could get better and they did for a while and then Iraq Keir Starmer isnt charismatic, and he doesnt have any policies.

@hanahsaunt

I am a floating voter and rarely vote for the same party two elections in a row. Were an election called tomorrow, based on what has been said by Keir Starmer and others over the course of the conference week I would absolutely not vote Labour at the moment (having voted happily for Labour on previous occasions). I care nothing for his speech until he can and his MPs can understand human biology.
This.
ducksalive · 30/09/2021 14:08

I quite like Kier Starmer but I wouldn't vote for any party where a cabinet member states without leadership censure that rights for women belong in the Jurassic age.

WoMandalorian · 30/09/2021 14:09

No. If he wants to "take on the left" then he should join the tories.

Outbutnotoutout · 30/09/2021 14:11

Hell no, the party don't even know that half the population is called a woman and has a cervix...

I wouldn't trust them with grown up decisions!!!

NoToast · 30/09/2021 14:14

Lifelong Labour voter and no. I can't support their stance against women's rights.
