If you were locked in a shop overnight ( by yourself and in no danger )
Which type of shop would you choose ?
Mine would 100% be a bookshop . Even better if it had somewhere to make a coffee / tea.
My idea of heaven.

My friend and I used to do this.

We reckoned we could live indefinitely, and very happily, in John Lewis.

HonorHiding · 28/09/2021 16:25

I (plus one) got locked in a museum one night. We were very well-behaved.

Shops - well, any with beds, books and chocolate will do.

QueenPeary · 28/09/2021 16:26

When Sheffield flooded a few years ago some people did have to spend the night in John Lewis IIRC. I know it was wrong of me to be jealous, but I was.

I actually did this once when I was very young - although I wasn't "locked in" as much as I locked myself in. It was at a coffee house I worked at. I was between homes for a night due to various circumstances, had the keys and was rostered to open up the next morning so I just spent the night there.

Not my finest hour and would have been fired if caught. I didn't do anything, just curled up in a booth out of sight of the windows and read until I fell asleep, woke up early, washed in the bathroom sink and opened up. I had a new room to move into that day.

I work in a 24/7 library and we have a boiling water tap if that would do? Grin

I’d want to be locked in Harrods and get to try all the clothes, makeup and perfumes.

I used to love this CBBC TV film about a mum and her daughters who slept in a department store over Christmas. ‘The Greatest Store in the World’.

I'm with @SylvanasWindrunner waterstones with a Costa in it

My parents were once locked into a motorhome show room. They'd been checking out the enormous vans outside in the parking area and when they got out of one they realised the staff had shut the main gates and all gone home. They had to climb over the 6ft railings to get out, which was a challenge as my mum is only 4ft 11.

BeaLola · 28/09/2021 16:30

@Crunched

I fantasise about this happening to me in Selfridges. I believe a few customers and some staff had to stay in the Birmingham store for one night when a heavy snow storm hit. Oh what bliss!
Selfridges London or Fortnum & Mason

I could look at (try ) the Chanel bags , jewellery etc , have cocktails, have food , read books , sleep - hopefully I would get locked in for more than one night ...

ineedaholidayandwine · 28/09/2021 16:31

A majestic wine warehouse or similar :-D

Phyllis321 · 28/09/2021 16:33

Not the same but I spent the night in the British Museum once. Slept next to the Elgin Marbles Grin

rosegoldwatcher · 28/09/2021 16:34

Last time I had a shopping day with my close friend we spent a good part of the train journey home discussing exactly this! (We were both in our late 50s.)
We agreed absolutely that we wanted to be locked in John Lewis. As with a PP up-thread the expensive perfumes featured heavily in our fantasies - Armani Prive for us though.

Vroomed · 28/09/2021 16:35

John Lewis. I'd like to try sleeping on a 7k mattress!

fibeee · 28/09/2021 16:36

A Waterstones that had a coffee shop and a big comfy sofa. Bliss

StoatMilk · 28/09/2021 16:36

M+S food Grin

Boiledpotatowitch · 28/09/2021 16:37

Harrods definitely try on all the underwear clothes shoes and bridal wear stuff my face with delicious food and drink try on all the hats and perfume play in the toy department lounge around on a 50,000 sofa or bed mmm heaven

PuzzledObserver · 28/09/2021 16:38

I did once get locked in the arts centre on campus - I went to the loo after the performance, and they clearly didn’t check before they locked up.

I let myself out through a fire door and slunk back to my accommodation.

Lindy2 · 28/09/2021 16:38

I'd go with a department store with lots of variety including beds and food.

If I had to choose one it would be a bed shop for overnight. During the day I'd go for a posh delicatessen. Sleep and food are obviously important to me. Grin

AdaColeman · 28/09/2021 16:42

Van Cleef & Arpels, Paris, though a Booths would be good too!

littlefireseverywhere · 28/09/2021 16:42

It's funny, I often think this. But I used to think John Lewis, but they're shops have really unimpressed me post covid. So it'd be a large M&S, food, beds, change of clothes - what more could you want. Plus, I really like M&S winter range this year.

For fun, I'd do Decathlon, trying out all their bikes, scooters, etc.

ChimneyPot · 28/09/2021 16:42

I was locked in a small shopping centre/mall once. All the individual shops were locked up so it was pretty grim.
I was 38 weeks pregnant and had 3 young children with me so my main concern was getting let out without panicking the children.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 28/09/2021 16:42

I'd like to get locked into a locksmith's shop.

diddl · 28/09/2021 16:43

Beds, bedding, books, toothpaste & toothbrushes is what I'd need!

boldbutdire · 28/09/2021 16:44

I got locked in a cinema once, don't recommend it!

Rosesandblossoms · 28/09/2021 16:51

@WellThatsATurnipForTheBooks

Is there such a thing as an off-licence in a book store?
Not quite, but the Waterstone’s on Piccadilly has a bar at the top. That’d do.
DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 28/09/2021 16:51

A bed shop
