What's everyone's weekly alcohol consumption?

I'm just interested to know. For comparison really. I LOVE wine. Trying new wine, different tastes etc. But I noticed I went from drinking a few glasses of wine on the weekend to two large glasses a night on weekdays. I was doing a bottle over 48hrs and I wondered what everyone else thought was an acceptable amount for them?

I've recently cut back and just sticking to weekends, maybe a double G&T instead. I do look forward to it and find it a nice treat.

One small glass of wine every night.
Occasionally, on a Sat, I'll have two small glasses.

I usually have a drink on Friday and one on Saturday. Almost always a G&T poured fairly generously so I think maybe 4 units per week? Very rarely more but sometimes I'll have a couple of beers instead,

I used to drink a lot in my 20s then got hit with the evil hangover stick about 30 then had babies so I frankly cannot be arsed to go through with the morning after. I have been drunk maybe 3 times in a decade.

TableFlowerss · 27/09/2021 23:37

Don’t drink mid week really, except a Friday I’ll have a glass of wine or 2 depending what I feel like, but sometimes I won’t have anything of a Friday.

I might finish the bottle off on the Sat or Sun and a few gins thrown in the mix if I fancy.

savagebaggagemaster · 27/09/2021 23:38

None.
I used to occasionally have a glass or two at weekends, then a glass or three in the holidays. Then I realised:

  1. It made me fall asleep at 9pm
  2. It flared up my rosacea badly.
  3. Made me feel hot and bothered.
  4. It upset my tum the next morning - even one glass could do this.
Luckily I was able to just not bother anymore (and neither does dh).

Averaged out over the year, probably a couple of units a month. I can’t drink wine, don’t like beer, and I tend to only drink spirits when out with friends.

Ask me how much coffee and pepsi max I go through though…

Seriallover · 27/09/2021 23:55

1-2 a month.

IdblowJonSnow · 27/09/2021 23:58

Just one or two drinks a week at home now as it just makes me ill/sleepy!

I drink more if I'm going out though.

Hallowbat · 27/09/2021 23:59

Usually none, I do have a baileys problem over Christmas time though

olidora63 · 28/09/2021 00:05

About 3 bottles a week…keeps me sane ! So probably about 27 units !

millerpie · 28/09/2021 00:13

Pretty much zero, December on the other hand is a different story.

silentpool · 28/09/2021 02:09

2 bottles of wine a week - works out to a glass a night.

Imissmoominmama · 28/09/2021 02:56

I used to drink a bottle of wine most nights- for about 30 years.

Now it probably averages out at a bottle a week.

I’m thinner and my joints don’t hurt as much (I have arthritis).

I have more money too.

It’s great!

simitra · 28/09/2021 03:33

Half a bottle of white or rose wine a week only with a meal.

WaterBottle123 · 28/09/2021 07:10

Thimble of Sherry every second Easter, sniff of champagne when the decade changes.

dubyalass · 28/09/2021 07:21

I'll have a G&T every week or two, maybe a small glass of wine at dinner with friends, but I'm usually driving and so I stick to soft drinks or water/tea. I used to go out and get hammered several times a week in my 20s and 30s but the hangovers just aren't worth it any more. I love wine and beer but I have developed an 'off' switch these days and am happy with just the one glass.

QuentinBunbury · 28/09/2021 07:40

Thimble of Sherry every second Easter, sniff of champagne when the decade changes. the usual mumsnet reply Grin

This thread has made me feel a lot better than they usually do, probably because it's more in line with my drinking. I drink 1.5 - 2 bottles red wine a week and maybe a couple of g&ts. I want to cut down but find it hard when DP is drinking - I'm such a sheep

CrepuscularCritter · 28/09/2021 11:41

Probably 1-2 units a month, mostly a splash of whisky in coffee. I don't have anything against drinking more; it just rarely occurs to me. Wish I could say the same about chocolate.

Ellarain · 28/09/2021 11:48

I drink Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Proably have 7 to 8 light beers on each of these nights. I've never touched, wine, spirits or cocktails.

Battleoftheislands · 28/09/2021 12:17

@GreenTeaBlackCoffeeAndRedWine

It really does vary.

Sometimes I have a drink most nights, other times I probably drink a bottle of wine over a weekend. Other times I go without for ages.

But I don't really count it. I just have a drink when I fancy it.

Way too much, and I don’t know what to do about it. And by way too much I mean recently it’s been about 2 bottles of wine a night. I struggle with poor mental health, but that’s no excuse I know. I can’t seem to find a way out!

HarebrightCedarmoon · 28/09/2021 13:56

It won't help your mental health, that's for sure. Could you try and have a break, one or two nights a week to start? Or have just a couple of beers instead on those nights. You might need advice on how to cut down from two bottles of wine a night, as it can be dangerous just to stop.

Ell17 · 28/09/2021 14:09

@Whatayear2021 I'm sorry to hear you're going through this Thanks My sister suffers with depression and she does say after drinking it makes her worse. There are alcohol support pages on here. I hope you find the help you want

Zero weekly, zero monthly, but in about every 6 months I will probably have had two 175mls of red wine, one or two pints of lager, and maybe one cocktail, or at Christmas one glass of champagne or a Baileys on ice. I think it would probably be healthier for me to have a couple of glasses of red wine a week (ftom articles I have read), but I just don't fancy it that often. However, (also from what I have read over the years) you are drinking far too much for your health, particularly the health of your liver. I am sure you know (Ihnrtft), or many on here have already told you, that 14 units are the recommended limit of alcohol in the week, and that you should have a couple of days without drinking any. I am wondering why you feel the need to drink every or nearly every day, can you find a different way to relax, and leave drinking until the weekend - but obviously not all 14 units in two days? The 14 units are not advised as amount to aim for, it is the absolute limit of how much alcohol we should imbibe in a week.
