What's everyone's weekly alcohol consumption?

I'm just interested to know. For comparison really. I LOVE wine. Trying new wine, different tastes etc. But I noticed I went from drinking a few glasses of wine on the weekend to two large glasses a night on weekdays. I was doing a bottle over 48hrs and I wondered what everyone else thought was an acceptable amount for them?

I've recently cut back and just sticking to weekends, maybe a double G&T instead. I do look forward to it and find it a nice treat.

Pregnant atm so nothing. Normally maybe 3 glasses of red through out the week? Husband will have a few cans of beer most nights.

I do love sitting up every so often with him though and getting absolutely blitzed. We will sit up in the kitchen until 2-4am listening to music and drinking. We love it. Not that often though.

0 used to be a couple of whiskeys once a week. But for a long while it's been only a couple of whiskeys when back in Ireland, and I haven't been back for 3 years. Confused

Easily four bottles a week. I rarely drank before I got married at 40, just never occurred to me. Then my husband and I would share a bottle three or four nights a week ( so a bottle and a half to two each a week). Now (I'm a widow) I find if I open a bottle I finish it. So I try to only drink at weekends but not very good at sticking to that! But I go dry for Lent, and other times throughout the year.
I have a friend who drinks about two bottles a day every day. Never gets drunk - she has a high tolerance I guess.

0 I don’t like the smell, the taste or the feeling alcohol gives me.

Sitdowncupoftea · 27/09/2021 17:46

Zero I don't drink.

Zeal · 27/09/2021 17:52

Last year it was

24.3 billion litres of of wine
1.91 billion hectolitres of beer
35.6 million litres of spirits
Plus a lot of ciders, some Drambuai and a small bottle of out of date Babycham

Ell17 · 27/09/2021 17:54

@SheABitSpicyToday That's exactly what myself and DH did occasionally during lockdown! Cook a big meal from scratch, music on, I'd be making margaritas and then we'd tuck into the meal half cut. Ah those were the days Grin

@Zeal My kind of person! ......minus the Drambuai

Only if I'm out for a meal of special occasion so very rarely it's not something I'd buy on our weekly shop.

TinselTime21 · 27/09/2021 17:59

0 units well except maybe 4 fruit ciders a year

MintyGreenDream · 27/09/2021 18:03

Bottle of wine on a Friday night

Zeal · 27/09/2021 18:19

I apologise profusely, I gave annual figures and not weekly as the OP asked. Divide the above by 52 and we should be there.

Most posters are way out.

stealingbeauty · 27/09/2021 19:43

I like wine at the moment. I probably drink three glasses of wine a week. Sometimes four.

freshcarnation · 27/09/2021 19:45

Nothing. I love it but it doesn't like me anymore

PurpleDaisies · 27/09/2021 19:45

Usually just one or two drinks on a weekend unless there’s a special occasion.

purplecarrot23 · 27/09/2021 19:52

Very little. Maybe one glass of bubbles at the weekend but that's rare these days.

WiltedDaffs · 27/09/2021 19:54

Half a bottle of not very strong wine on a Friday night…3 units a week.

newmum1976 · 27/09/2021 19:55

Roughly 7 units a week, spread over 4-5 nights.

Vindo · 27/09/2021 19:59

I usually have one glass of gin and mixer a week. I used to drink a lot more (beer, gin, Bailey's and occasionally white wine), but since I had my kids I seem to have lost the taste for it.

Id rather have a hot chocolate now!

Zeal · 27/09/2021 19:59

Apologies once again. I though OP asked for everyone's alcoholic consumption. I took that to mean the entire global population. Having reread the thread I see OP was asking about our own individual alcohol consumption.

My earlier answer, which was in fact the global consumption as available needs to be reduced to my own level. Silly me.

So, about the size of Wales each year.

Kljnmw3459 · 27/09/2021 20:00

I used to have a glass of wine couple of times month, but during lockdown I had a two glasses per evening!! Now I'm down to a glass a week. My energy levels are really low ATM and alcohol doesn't help.

lannistunut · 27/09/2021 20:03

Zero most weeks, two units = a crazy weekend for me.

Sunnysal · 27/09/2021 20:04

I've just started a 2 week no alcohol. I will find it doable but hard. I've been a heavy drinker most of my life. I'm now 70 and live in a county with cheap alcohol. The only reason I cut down is to loose weight. I can and do happily drink a couple of GTs and a couple of bottles of wine a night. I really enjoy it and don't particularly get drunk. It takes 3 bottles for that!

Suzi888 · 27/09/2021 20:05

20 units - possibly more. It adds up fast. I don’t drink to get drunk, just enjoy the taste and associate it with being a treat! I’ve switched to Aldi Vinedo as slightly lower alcohol level.
DH and I can both go without easily if we want to, we just enjoy it, a lot Blush.
We both want to lose a bit of weight and we snack a lot when drinking. So going to do sober October, starting now as it’s a Monday.

UnfinishedBunting · 27/09/2021 20:07
