What's everyone's weekly alcohol consumption?

I'm just interested to know. For comparison really. I LOVE wine. Trying new wine, different tastes etc. But I noticed I went from drinking a few glasses of wine on the weekend to two large glasses a night on weekdays. I was doing a bottle over 48hrs and I wondered what everyone else thought was an acceptable amount for them?

I've recently cut back and just sticking to weekends, maybe a double G&T instead. I do look forward to it and find it a nice treat.

Zero most weeks. One drink if out with friends., which is not often. DH doesn't drink and I find it dull drinking alone.

lawofdistraction · 27/09/2021 16:33

One small glass of red wine every evening. Never more never less!

@gailplattshairbrush another great tag!!

Good luck with your pregnancy Thanks
Your pre-pregnant drinking sounds very similar to mine at times.

@lawofdistraction consistency is key! And they do say one glass a night is better than a whole bottle in one sitting.

@Yogsgirl I've tallied that up and there's at least 1/2 a bottle that's surely still open in your house! I'd have to drink it. But I think that was my problem with wine. If it's there, it's gone

Zero... unless there's a box of M and S cherry liqueurs in chocolate... but they're one of my 5 a day right? fruit...?

HarebrightCedarmoon · 27/09/2021 16:51

Oh man. Far too much recently but I've got it under control again now. It was scary how I could go from moderate, careful under 14 units consumption to 40-50 units a week. It's wine that is the biggest temptation for me when we have it in the house. I was starting to get withdrawal symptoms - depression, anxiety, exhaustion, that I first put down to other things until it just clicked. Was starting to feel I really needed a drink, at a deeper level, and not just "I could murder a pint".

I have a new determination to lose a bit more weight now though, and alcohol is really not compatible with that. So consumption will be very moderate for the next few months.

Yogsgirl · 27/09/2021 16:52

Grin @Ell17 I'm afraid not- DH drank the other half of it!

escapeyou · 27/09/2021 16:52

1/2 a bottle of wine on Saturday. The other half last night. I might have a gin tonight but that will be it until the weekend again.

MatildaIThink · 27/09/2021 16:54

It really depends on the week. This weekend I had a bottle and a half of wine because I went to a friends birthday, my husband drove and my mum looked after the kids for us. However for balance, I have probably only drink four bottles of wine in total this year. Normal weeks at home neither I nor my husband drink, we only drink when either we have friends round for a meal, which is then normally a glass or two with dinner, or if we go out, both of those have been rare the last eighteen months due to the various lockdowns and restrictions.

HopeForTheBestExpectTheWorst · 27/09/2021 17:00

A glass of wine or similar every evening, usually while I'm cooking dinner, a bottle will last me Mon-Fri. A couple more drinks at the weekend. I never get drunk or feel like I've had too much. Don't drink when I go out as I'm usually driving. It's been like that for at least 20 years now!

gogohm · 27/09/2021 17:03

Umm, more than I admit to my gp. It varies depending on what I'm doing of course. Wednesdays a pint 2.5/3 units I'm guessing) Fridays maybe 1/2 bottle wine 4 units, maybe g&t 2 units, Saturdays if we go out 2-3 pints, stay home more wine ... so 14-18 units. Some weeks I won't have wine at all, others more ...

AudTheDeepMinded · 27/09/2021 17:13

Mine has really varied over the years, but never excessive. pre-Pandemic I was averaging around 2 units a month. Not on purpose, just not a habit I had. Lockdown and home-schooling was fucking stressful and both of us drank a bit more, up to around 4 units a week, sometimes more. It's gone down a bit again now and in the last week, for example, I've had one double gin. Once in a blue moon I'll go out and have 3 or 4 drinks in a night, but I can't ever see myself being a huge drinker.

Ell17 · 27/09/2021 17:16

@HarebrightCedarmoon I hear you! It's great that you're turning it around now. Like you, I'm very conscious when I do drink more. My DH has the odd whisky or beer, but seldom. I on the other hand was using the excuse of a stressful day in order to justify my drinking. Like "oh i deserve this". So I had to change my mindset.

For the last four months or so...nothing at all. I've banned myself and that needs to be for a while longer yet.
I very quickly get back up to drinking wine almost daily, and a bottle/day and that is clearly a problem so I figure I need a significant break to try and fill the void the wine was filling with something more productive!

Northernsoullover · 27/09/2021 17:19
  1. I was drinking too much and I felt shitty all the time. It was actually easier to stop completely than cut down.
GoodnightGrandma · 27/09/2021 17:20

I get four champagne glasses of Prosecco out of a bottle.
I drink a maximum of 2 bottles over 4 nights.

SirChenjins · 27/09/2021 17:23

It varies - some months it’s nothing, other weeks I’ll have a couple of glasses of wine or Prosecco, or one small whisky - the most per week would be three (small) glasses of wine. I don’t drink a lot - there’s too many calories and it makes me feel pretty rough. I hate that sleepy, woozy feeling I get after just a few mouthfuls.

SummerintheCity2021 · 27/09/2021 17:25

I drank for years, probably 10-15 units a week. Then as I got older I could tolerate it less and rarely drink now. Maybe one drink a month.

GreenTeaBlackCoffeeAndRedWine · 27/09/2021 17:27

It really does vary.

Sometimes I have a drink most nights, other times I probably drink a bottle of wine over a weekend. Other times I go without for ages.

But I don't really count it. I just have a drink when I fancy it.

CiaoForNiao · 27/09/2021 17:28

None. I can think of 3 occasions when I've had a drink in the last 18 months and even then I only had 1 or 2 glasses.
