A true story film I can watch tonight

I have Prime or Netflix.

I'm finding lately that I don't have patience with nonsense films, but I do enjoy something based on a true story.

Recent favourites are Pride, A Call to Spy and the Freddie Mercury one.

Any recommendations?

I do y have Netflix and looked through some
of the garbage available and would find this interesting -

www.netflix.com/gb/title/80116922

Everybody's Talking About Jamie is based on a true story and is a film adaptation of the musical. It is on Prime Video.

LoveFall · 20/09/2021 19:51

My Octopus Teacher is very good. Basically a true story about an octopus who became friends with a human.

PivotPivotPivottt · 20/09/2021 19:52

Impossible
Sully

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 20/09/2021 19:52

Hidden Figures

PivotPivotPivottt · 20/09/2021 19:53

Sorry its actually The Impossible.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 20/09/2021 19:55

The Blind Side

HollyBollyBooBoo · 20/09/2021 19:56

Schumacher on Netflix is fascinating

mnahmnah · 20/09/2021 19:56

Are you up for more of a documentary?

Three Identical Strangers on Netflix is one of the best I’ve seen. An amazing true story.

RunningStrong · 20/09/2021 19:56

Thank you I saw Everyone's Talkig About Jamie advertised but was worried the trans issues (which I admit I don't fully understand) would blow my mind. Grin

Hidden Figures is probably my favourite film ever.

I like Sully too. The Impossble looks altogether too sad/traumatic.

My Octopus Teacher....

Breathe

MiddleClassProblem · 20/09/2021 19:58

Just seen your “too sad and dramatic” post. Sorry! I tend to go for criers!

IsolaPribby · 20/09/2021 19:58

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz

Hidden Figures
This is an incredible film!

Another favourite of mine is Apollo 13

MiddleClassProblem · 20/09/2021 20:02

Catch me if you can?
The imitation game

I’ve not tried Molly’s Game yet

iklboo · 20/09/2021 20:03

Everyone's Talking About Jamie isn't trans. It's about drag.

iklboo · 20/09/2021 20:04

Argh posted too soon & that sounded really snotty!

We watched it at the weekend. It was okay. Not Hamilton or Les Mis but entertaining enough

MonsterMunchConnoisseur · 20/09/2021 20:05

Apollo 13, hidden figures and the blind side are some of my favourites on Netflix.

RunningStrong · 20/09/2021 20:06

@iklboo

Everyone's Talking About Jamie isn't trans. It's about drag.
Yes, this is what I mean. The feminism boards don't like drag either...I understand some of their points but not all of them. E.g. is drag harmless fun, sad or threatening?

The film looks fun but I don't know if I'm supposed to enjoy it Grin

Hidden figures is one of my favourite films too.

Have you seen The Big Short? It used to be on Netflix but I think it’s not anymore. It might be on prime.

The Guernsey literary and potato peel pie society is very loosely based around real events during the German occupation of the Channel Islands but is a fictional story. I enjoyed it but I’ve heard the book is better.

MiddleClassProblem · 20/09/2021 20:06

Lion is probably my favourite but also a crier.

Saving Mr Banks is quite lighthearted.

What sort of theme are you looking for?

Patters4779 · 20/09/2021 20:06

Highly recommended the blind side on netflix.

devildeepbluesea · 20/09/2021 20:07

I second the Imitation Game. I loved it.

RunningStrong · 20/09/2021 20:08

Yes, I really enjoyed the Big Short and Blind Side

OK Catch Me if you Can might be my actual favourite, but Hidden Figures is more recent.

The Imitation Game is good. I couldn't get into Molly's Game.

What's Breathe about?
