A true story film I can watch tonight

I have Prime or Netflix.

I'm finding lately that I don't have patience with nonsense films, but I do enjoy something based on a true story.

Recent favourites are Pride, A Call to Spy and the Freddie Mercury one.

Any recommendations?

Jamie is amazing. I've watched it 3 times already Grin
Obviously it's about drag in a way. But it's more about Jamie's relationships with his parents and friends. Imo anyway.

Not the pursuit of happyness!! Nearly killed me that film. So sad.

If you can stretch to more than one night's entertainment, watch Chernobyl. 5 episodes series with each episode around an hour. The best thing I have seen in so long.
I'd also second The Big Short and Apollo 13

Everyone’s talking about Jamie is utterly wonderful and is absolutely to be enjoyed 🤩

RunningStrong · 20/09/2021 20:10

Philomena is very good, though sad.

The Churchill one I really enjoyed. Darkest Hour?

If you like a documentary try Behind the Curve.

'ETAJ' is a lovely Musical and easy to watch. He clearly states he doesn't want to be a girl, he's a boy who sometimes likes to dress as girl. That's an important message for me as a feminist. Some drag artists are misogynistic and mock women. This doesn't at all IMO.
I would ask recommend 'Hidden figures' and also 'The Book Thief'.

Lion

SpeckledyHen · 20/09/2021 20:13

LION . One of the best films I have ever seen . Please watch it .

ISpyCobraKai · 20/09/2021 20:16

The Bang bang Club on Prime is great, and based on a true story, fairly brutal but definitely worth a watch.

Almostascot · 20/09/2021 20:17

On the basis of sex (story of Ruth Bader Ginsburg)

Made in Dagenham (more lighthearted but very good)

RunningStrong · 20/09/2021 20:18

Yes, I've seen Lion and The Book Thief

I do like a true story and I obviously watch more than I realised!

Touching the void

Into the wild

Jungle, staring Daniel Radcliffe

All based on true stories

MiddleClassProblem · 20/09/2021 20:23

Fighting with my family?

MiddleClassProblem · 20/09/2021 20:24

Wild was ok although not blown away by it. That might of been because someone said I would love it before I saw it though.

Mumteedum · 20/09/2021 20:26

Trial of the Chicago seven is utterly brilliant. Loved it. Great cast

userxx · 20/09/2021 20:26

@SpeckledyHen

LION . One of the best films I have ever seen . Please watch it .

So good.

132orbust · 20/09/2021 20:27

Has anyone suggested Fatherhood? We watched it last night and thought it was super.

Etinox · 20/09/2021 20:27

If you can steel yourself The Mauritanian is wonderful.
I saw the documentary Jamie is based on and I’m fiercely “GC anti woman face” and found it charming.

impressivelycunty · 20/09/2021 20:29

WORTH is amazing -also have you seen Rocketman?

iklboo · 20/09/2021 20:29

It's definitely a film to be enjoyed Smile

atracurious · 20/09/2021 20:30

Mrs Wilson is fantastic and about the actress' Ruth Wilson's grandma. She plays her in the series

Although it's not a film, it's a 3 part series I'd really recommend

Frazzledd · 20/09/2021 20:34

The Dig - amazing little gem of a film!

'In the late 1930s, wealthy landowner Edith Pretty hires amateur archaeologist Basil Brown to investigate the mounds on her property in England. He and his team discover a ship from the Dark Ages while digging up a burial ground'

Frazzledd · 20/09/2021 20:34

It's on Netflix, forgot to say!

TSSDNCOP · 20/09/2021 20:37
