Lovely people - your word of the day 'Unwuchtkontrollsystem'

(kicks in when your washingmashine does not start the spin because the washing is unevenly distributed)

Champagneforeveryone · 24/09/2021 13:56

?the internet is back on Smile

Many people have had intermittent internet (while we've had none at all) so I'm not counting my chickens just yet.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/09/2021 14:12

Champagne Great news...

It was not the Unwuchtkontrollsystem - the machine is now finally broken after about 20 years doing its non-digital work ...

Silkiescatz · 24/09/2021 14:28

Good news on internet Champagne

Just counted our chickens - we still have 2. That is about my capability level for the day. Though I did wake recently to find I had ordered DS a desk and swivel chair from IKEA so I can pretend he is doing his homework and a velvet dress and shoes in the sale, very discounted from Lands End. I also had 2 mince pies for breakfast to keep with my Christmas theme.

I like mushrooms apart from one time I had them at a veggie restaurant where they boiled them and put lots of garlic on them. Otherwise love them. DD used to call them worms as a small child and ask can I have worms with my dinner?

HildaTablet · 24/09/2021 15:54

I think that makes three of us on this thread who've had washing machine problems recently. Not to mention all the internet ones Sad. All this adulting is getting me down.

I've had two workmen over today, both to do small jobs that have been promised for literally months and have taken repeated nudges and phone calls to achieve. But they're done now. Relief.

Sorry you're still feeling so ill Silkies

Silkiescatz · 24/09/2021 15:59

Thanks Hilda Well done on getting workmen over to do work. We are finding it incredibly hard to get workmen out, they don't seem keen on working or maybe they have too much work. Grin

I had 2 more mince pies. DS is home, DD still on her way back.

I tried to go on Netflix and got a message that I couldn't go on as Annoying Pest (that's my nickname for DD which we use for Netflix) was watching Sex Education Shock

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/09/2021 16:59

Sikie Do not forget to top up the mince pies (as far as I know you English speakers need them for Christmas Grin ).

Noticed that my medication was running out, sent an e-mail to my doc, got an e-mail back to collect and am now topped up again for 6 months

Silkiescatz · 24/09/2021 17:10

Yes its compulsory to eat mince pies from now until Christmas here though if you do like me and eat 4 in 1 day you are normally sick of them before Christmas.

DH chased the fridge guy. I told him to do that a few days ago as he wasn't replying to me but DH said no they say they come in 24 hours. Called today and they are coming on Wednesday so no fridge until at least then.

Got DH to chase the plumber who is also not replying to my e-mails and he said oh people asking for quotes can be annoying as they call 4 companies and we are busy. How many companies have you called. He said one and explained he was our preferred choice as could do carpentry. And the guy said if DH phones again on Monday he will make an appointment to come here.

Hard work to get workmen here.

Silkiescatz · 24/09/2021 17:16

DD saw my oximeter and saw wow you have a gadget, what is that gadget? She then said I have been trying to explain to DH about the importance of gadgets and energy drinks but he doesn't get it.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/09/2021 17:20

Silkie I can see that you really do need those mince pies!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/09/2021 17:26

My old university offers online basic starter courses in Chinese!
Tell me not to do it!!!!

  • I am not musical I'll never get the tones
  • It's one language too many
  • i am working full time
  • procurement law is fun, too
Silkiescatz · 24/09/2021 17:36

I think I may need to do a plumbing course then I can change our own boiler, it may be quicker. I may need to add mulled wine with the mince pies to continue to deal with the workmen. Alcohol will also kill the rest of the covid.

DH said he was going to use the carpet cleaner in the dining room on one patch of carpet on Thursday night then said he couldn't as there was no carpet cleaning fluid. I pointed out there was next to the carpet cleaner and he said yes you are right so I can carpet clean then umm tomorrow. This is the moveable tomorrow that never comes though Silkiecat will be happy as the carpet cleaner is very noisy, also very heavy.

Silkiescatz · 24/09/2021 17:38

All the covid vaccines at school have been cancelled as no staff. Cannot give another date atm.

Silkiescatz · 24/09/2021 17:39

I started a beginners Russian course at university but had to give up as it wasn't my level beginners, they assumed you knew the alphabet and the basics.

JustThisLastLittleBit · 24/09/2021 17:46

Trying to decide whether to walk my dog or my daughter's dog first

sueelleker · 24/09/2021 17:51

That's the trouble with Greek and Russian; you need to learn a new alphabet as well as the language.
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/09/2021 17:51

Silkie Duolingo have just added a 'learn the letters' module if you use the app. - And - you were supposed to discourage me!
DD had to start Russian in year 1 together with English (Abitur needs 2 languages), so I took a tiny Russian for parents course but I never made it past A1.

Squirrel26 · 24/09/2021 17:52

I hate mince pies. And Christmas cake. And Christmas pudding. Overflowing with Christmas spirit here.

MissConductUS · 24/09/2021 18:29

Welcome, @JustThisLastLittleBit, and thanks for sharing your canine ambulation news. I have had dogs and cats, but cats only now, and I don't miss having to do the walks.

Bah humbug, Squirrel. Grin

IWanderedLonely · 24/09/2021 21:34

My son bought a waistcoat from Next today to wear at a wedding tomorrow morning. It is too small. DH has been volunteered to take it back & swap it first thing. Hope they have a bigger size in stock.

JustThisLastLittleBit · 24/09/2021 23:34

I went mad and walked my DD's dog first. May I be forgiven

Gingerwarthog · 25/09/2021 06:38

Woke up early (DH had an early start for work) so I have the unexpected luxury of an uninterrupted hour in bed with coffee, Wartycat and the new Ann Cleeves book
Smile

Silkiescatz · 25/09/2021 06:47

I started the Duolingo Russian, thanks Prok

Silkiecat cried as soon as DH came to bed with me. He went down as discovered a food crisis which he solved then Silkiecat cried again so he brought her to bed and she was very happy. I then mentioned my Christmas turkey order to her and she jumped off the bed and ran to the kitchen, sadly for Silkiecat its not for collection until 24.12. Birds are singing.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/09/2021 08:38

My big problem with Duolingo is that they do not use the IPA for pronouciation advise but the 'Latinization'. Trying to learn Russian via English and then getting this jumble of letters to figure out the pronunciation of a sound or word is "suboptimal" - to put it nicely. They do te same for Korean and DD is grumbling about it, too.

I have discovered the our fridge was bought on the 17.2.1998.
