I’m sitting outside a large municipal pool while DC2 competes in her first swim gala since Covid started. We had to get here at 8.40am which meant leaving the house at 8.10am. On a Saturday.

No spectators allowed otherwise I’d be in there cheering or volunteering. I’ve been for a long run and am now sitting in the car as it’s drizzling slightly, waiting for the lunch break so I can take them to Waitrose to refuel before the afternoon session.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/09/2021 11:19

Drizzling here two - very very slightly you hardly notice it until you are soaked.
The pool DD did her swimming at (until she told her coach she doesn't like swimming fast) had a pizzeria attached Grin

Silkiescatz · 25/09/2021 11:47

DH has gone to the barbers. Silkiecat is not impressed with this selfish behaviour.

Gingerwarthog · 25/09/2021 12:23

Have also been swimming and had the entire lane to myself!
More luxury.

Am enjoying my younger son being fastidious about his girlfriend’s washing and generally looking after her - I get the spin off benefit of vast numbers of cups of tea and a general feeling of smugness as she tells me that he tidied her room for her and is being very kind and considerate. Older son is in shock: turns out that he is now the tidiest person in his student house; it is possible to make your bed on the daily: and that it’s really annoying when people tell you that they’ll do a job in a minute and then don’t. He tells me that he’s just put a four day old bowl of cereal outside his housemate’s bed room door. I don’t know him anymore. 😂😂

@JustThisLastLittleBit, can't the dogs be walked together?

DH was turned away for his covid booster jab yesterday. The pharmacy had not officially adopted the new CDC guidance that had been announced on Thursday night. They said it would all be fixed by today, so he's got an appointment for later this morning.

I've been for a 3 mile walk/jog and just got back from the warehouse club. They were out of clam chowder, but I still have some in the freezer. I got petrol there too. They have a discount petrol station for members only attached to the store. Usually, people queue for the marginally cheaper prices, but I got lucky today and didn't have to wait. Are people really having trouble buying petrol in the UK?

I've got laundry in the dryer and am about to run to the supermarket for a few things.

Purple, my son is 21 and I am still waiting for him to get the urge to tidy.

Prok, what brand of fridge is it? I've only gotten 10-12 years out of the last few we've owned.

Miss It's a Bauknecht and still going strong after scaring us earlier in the year.
My DB at 18 was placed to work in a psychiatric care home for the elderly - one week later he started to clean DM's kitchen Grin.

Silkiescatz · 25/09/2021 15:50

Our fridge is only just turned 3 and has broken down, its a Bosch and normally they have a good reputation though I think now a lot of products are designed so they break down just after warranty.

Our current boiler is 30 years old and we aren't sure whether to change it, its working fine but a new one will cut energy costs and can take hot water tank out with a combi boiler but they often last 10 years now.

We use very little petrol, we are rural but as I don't drive I chose a house with most things walkable like the school, doctors and the shop. DH wfh now but can cycle to work though he has never used his bike. DD has moved schools but takes the public bus. So the car is only used for things like to drive to the airport for holidays and click and collect things and sometimes DD wants dropping off somewhere. I think there are some petrol shortages but its 95% caused by people panic buying and 5% by a shortage of HGV drivers.

There are shortages in a lot of materials for building at the moment due to covid and having less staff. I am trying to get an NHS dentist but it is impossible at the moment so I will need to pay to go private but waiting until I feel better before booking. Gas prices (for central heating etc) are going up a lot here as well but we cannot change onto a deal atm, all deals are blocked.

Is there an English word for "Federweißer" - "very very young almost but not quite wine" available only in September and October?

I ironed all my workshirts and made several medical apointments for family via Doclib and Docenta.

Silkiescatz · 25/09/2021 16:23

I don't think we have that here though I rarely drink wine. We have mulled wine around this time of year which is drank warm and you often have mince pies with it but that its not the same thing.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/09/2021 16:29

Mulled wine fits nicely with your mince pies - but for me is definitely a December thing. We have a 'Glühwein-Kocher' (pot for making it) in the office.
Federweißer belongs to autumn and needs Flamkuchen.

Silkiescatz · 25/09/2021 16:30

DH is going in the car to pick up the cats renal diet food and then onto IKEA to get the desk and swivel chair I ordered for DS. I hope he doesn't run out of petrol, he always waits for the red light, drives round then needs an immediate petrol station. I have warned him to take petrol before the last minute possible incase a station is closed but he is very la-la-la.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/09/2021 16:32

IKEA - I knew there was something. DD has run out of bookspace and they now have lockable door inserts for Kallax.

Silkiescatz · 25/09/2021 16:34

DH makes flamkuche, his twin brother lived in Strasbourg for a while and taught him about it. Not had it for years but it is nice. DD is veggie and DS is lactose intolerant and a pizza or anything looking like pizza refuser. Though we could maybe try a veggie version which solves 3 of us.

JustThisLastLittleBit · 25/09/2021 16:36

@MissConductUS no they have very different walking styles re leads etc so I just don't enjoy walking them together

Silkiescatz · 25/09/2021 16:38

I can now write this is my pizza in Duolingo Russian.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/09/2021 16:43

There are quite nice veggie Flamkuche recipes (DH is from Karlsruhe so French border) - but intolerances and allergies need thought - and oh do I now about food that 'looks wrong'.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/09/2021 16:44

Silkie Great! I have advanced to "I have a pizza" Grin

HildaTablet · 25/09/2021 16:55

I've always had a secret yearning to learn Russian and once in my youth enrolled in a beginners evening class, but the teacher (Russian) was so openly scornful of our efforts that I slunk off after a few lessons and asked for a refund. She used to laugh merrily and trill that nobody who wasn't Russian would ever be able to pronounce these words properly. I felt like a complete dunderhead.

Nowadays I'd be more inclined to put in a complaint about the teacher, who was clearly in completely the wrong job.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/09/2021 17:14

It's a lovely language - and your teacher hilda was out of order.

MissConductUS · 25/09/2021 17:15

DH has just texted me that he's gotten his Pfizer jab and is in the waiting area for 15 minutes. He's very happy, I'm sure.

He made an outstanding pizza last night with sausage and pepperoni, so I have pizza too. Smile

Beaujolais Nouveau is the closest thing I know of. I live on the South Coast of England, and they used to do a "Beaujolais Nouveau" run every year to collect the earliest bottling. I don't know if they still do it. beaujolaisrun.com/ DH and I had our regular flu jabs this morning.
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/09/2021 17:26

Sue beaujolais nouveau is lovely too, but something entirely different i. e. already a real wine. The German word for that is "beaujolais nouveau" Smile.

I ended up going for another run during DC’s afternoon swim session. I was quietly impressed with myself. DC is exhausted but pleased, they didn’t get any DQ and beat their PB in all the races they entered.

I’ve hoovered the house on our return and am bracing myself to start sorting laundry ironing can wait until tomorrow
