Thanks Prok I just got on oximeter when I started finding breathing difficult with this and saw MN said you are supposed to get them. They are quite good, though mine shows numbers upside down, measurements now back in normal range. Had a Chinese after which felt a lot better. Chinese clearly solves everything.

That is a lovely story about the au pair.

Yes I guessed it was TV 16 year olds getting cars MissC, some children get them here for 17th but normally very wealthy parents or old banger car.

Dh was rearranging things in dining room and Silkiecat is very confulzed as a result. Even more than usual. Think DD can go back in tomorrow. She has been invited to a 16th party. I said maybe no drink sharing if we dont want everyone to get covid, she shared a drink before and 4 out of 5 of them have covid as noone could be bothered to walk to counter and get another drink and they have all been sick for 1.5 weeks.

Silkiescatz · 22/09/2021 22:55

Glad you have no more dental pain Mouse. Hope your Mum improves. I have to contact dentist, cant get an nhs one here atm so it will be pricey.

Silkiescatz · 22/09/2021 23:22

Silkiecat has had quite enough of DHs box opening and has decided to take action to stop his annoying behaviour.

What a lovely thread

& I am rather charmed by Silkiecat - If I did not have two terriers I might have to roam the country and steal her.
But I won't Grin

All very best to all , whatever the story or situation Flowers

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 23/09/2021 01:25

New washing machine and tumble dryer were delivered today so have spent tonight catching up with laundry Chez Frogs.

Girl cat is lying on my ribs and boy cat is lying across my stomach, I'm putting them to bed shortly. They wont be happy.

The US FDA announced tonight that anyone 65 or older or at risk of severe covid due to comorbidities is eligible for the booster jab. It's a good thing DH already has an appointment booked for Friday. He does qualify now due to an underlying medical condition.

BasiliskStare · 23/09/2021 01:58

@MissConductUS - I wish DH well Flowers All best to him. Great he has the appointment booked already.

Further to au pair story - not sure it was an actual university at the time , may have been a college - but whatever she got the qualification she wanted - this may amuse some.

She did not have a computer and we could not afford to buy her one but we did have an old laptop which worked. The cap on the letter D had fallen off. So poor young girl had to do her first year's work knowing that the empty key was D.

In other news here - DH has sanded down an elderly neighbour's back door so she can get out and feed the birds. (It got a bit warped due to rain ) & she has left me a lovely card to say thank you & her two robins appreciate it.

mathanxiety · 23/09/2021 02:17

Our weather today was downright autumnal. I was woefully underdressed and got drenched and frozen heading out to work. An umbrella would have helped a lot. I brought in my new jasmine plant from the deck as well as the succulents and my big coffee plant. Thanks to the rain, all the pots were very heavy. Fingers crossed no unpleasant insects hitched a ride indoors on the plants.

Silkie, keep track of your oxygen levels and go to A&E if they dip.

BasiliskStare · 23/09/2021 02:31

@mathanxiety - my mantra is as long as not spiders I can pretty much cope with any insects. Our local shop last year was doing a deal on those little fold up umbrellas - they will not weather a storm but I bought a few because they were as cheap as chips and if you lose one - does not matter.

I hope your plants are happy and safe and live to fight another day.

Susannahmoody · 23/09/2021 02:36

Made a massive pot of marinara sauce today. Used leek, cabbage, carrot, courgette, garlic, red lentils, tinned Tom's. Blended till smooth.

Has been on and off rainy but very warm. Leaves are very pretty.

mathanxiety · 23/09/2021 04:28

Spiders are what I'm afraid of, @BasiliskStare. There are some spectacular funnel spiders lurking in their webs on the outside back stairs, and many webs of a different pattern starting to stretch between the deck plants. American funnel spiders are not venomous, but they're not welcome all the same.

mathanxiety · 23/09/2021 04:29

*Technically, spiders are not insects though.

Yes Silkiecat is a bit of a star.
HelenaJustina · 23/09/2021 06:42

To add to cake news, DC2 made a chocolate orange Jaffa loaf this week and it is divine.

I think DC1 is having both flu and Covid immunisations on Friday. DC2 will definitely get flu but not sure about Covid, they are over 12 but only because their birthday is so early in the academic year.

sueelleker · 23/09/2021 07:41

Made a pot of cream of celery soup in my Instant Pot yesterday. It was dead easy; saute onion and garlic, add chopped celery & cook for 12 minutes, then blend. I've still got to stir in the cream, then I'll freeze it in portions.

sueelleker · 23/09/2021 07:42

Forgot to say, add 1L chicken stock with the celery-it would have been a bit solid otherwise!

Deathraystare · 23/09/2021 08:26

Wow that was a long link I did!

Anyway. I managed to get up late this morning! I was awake at 3am (quite normal!) But decided not to go loo until I got up (4.30 normally). Turned to the clock a while later, 5.30! I am normally out the door then!! Jumped in to the shower, dressed and threw some make up in the bag. Did one eyebrow in the lift. The other at the bus stop and the rest (just eye shadow and mascara and lipstick) at work. Managed to get in by 6.30 so that was good as I don't start until 7am but allow myself (normally) plenty of time to put make up on etc etc.

Has anyone else started to go back to the theatre and cinema? I have seen two things at the theatre which has had quite a crowd and two things at the cinema (only about 2-3 other people as well as myself and a friend.

MissConductUS · 23/09/2021 14:06

Welcome, @Susannahmoody, and thanks for sharing your marinara news. It sounds delicious. I'm in New York and we haven't had enough cold weather here for the leaves to start changing colors, but I am looking forward to it.

It still feels a bit like summer here this week.

Deathray, I haven't been back to the cinema but DS went a couple of times with his mates before returning to uni. I don't really miss it much actually.

Champagneforeveryone · 23/09/2021 15:40

Not too sure about the iPhone 13 availability miss, mine won't be in till next week anyway. Launch day is tomorrow I think.

Fairly immaterial to me in any case as we still have no internet. The next estimate is Monday I shall need to break this news to DS using calm and gentle words Grin

Susannahmoody · 23/09/2021 16:12

Waves at @MissConductUSmiss

Were just up the road in Canada! GrinFlowers

As you say the weather has been mild but suddenly overnight it seems to have turned colder and more Fall - like! Which I personally love!

MissConductUS · 23/09/2021 16:23

@Susannahmoody, another North American, hooray! One bad thing about being on MN when you're on this side of the pond is that by the time I finish dinner everyone in the UK has headed off to bed. Which time zone are you in?

OP posts:
BasiliskStare · 23/09/2021 17:08

@mathanxiety - if you can be bothered to watch this half way through you will be proven correct Grin

I can deal with insects - spiders no - I have proper arachnophobia . Not I just don't like them - proper phobia. I know this. I promise you.

BasiliskStare · 23/09/2021 17:10

@mathanxiety So that was re Spiders are not insects - bizarrely crabs and lobsters don't bother me one jot.

Silkiescatz · 23/09/2021 17:40

DH opened Silkiecat's cat mattress the other day and last night she realised what it was for and slept on it. Though DH forgot to add Silkiecat's pillow and blanket, the pillow is the best part for Silkiecat. She has adjusted to the new tidier dining room and DH even opened the curtains as he was proud of his tidier dining room / office and Silkiecat loves sunbathing, inside only, so there's no scary creatures like dogs barking 50 meters away to bother her.

That's very kind of your DH to do the door BasiliskStare, he would be very popular and busy in our village. We live in a thatched cottage so have quite a lot of spiders. My DD screams with each one but fortunately DH offers a spider rescue service. I don't mind them as long as they are not on me, Silkiecat loves them as they are cat toys.

Thanks Maths I am monitoring the oximeter, its OK as long as I am not lying down.

I slept until midday ish today and woke very dizzy again, was sick again but now starting to feel a bit better so same pattern as past few days but think trend is better.

DD was back at school for first time today and is now out with a friend, they had the same covid and its outside. DS went off as usual. He didn't eat at school again though Sad Yesterday he just ate roast potatoes there. He won't take packed lunch.
