Went for walk this evening after work and dinner with DH.
Walked through the woods - when it got dark we walked by the light of the full moon. Stopped at our local pub for coffee which managed to feel decadent for a Monday even if no alcohol was involved.

Silkiescatz · 20/09/2021 21:21

Thats great you have functioning plumbing Prok We have lots of plumbing and electrician projects which are not urgent but need to wait atm until we are plague free. This morning I woke up and discovered I had emailed a boiler company in the night I was 🙀 and today I had to say sorry you cant come at the moment.

Just eating mango, pineapple, onion bhaji and samosa and drinking pineapple juice with cocunut milk though mango and spice is all I taste.

Purplepeoniesdroppingpetals · 20/09/2021 22:00

So both uni age kids are out of the house for the first time in an age - am being boring by taking advantage of the bathroom being both clean and empty of said teens for a long bath with a hot chocolate. DH is feverishly completing an esta application to travel to the states to see my lovely bil and sil (not seen for two years). Question for those in or who’ve been to New England: is fall as pretty as it looks in the pics?

nannannanana · 20/09/2021 22:27

I finished a presentation for my boss.

It's boring and dull but hopefully he likes it I am not doing it again.

Presentations are not my thing.

mathanxiety · 21/09/2021 05:04

I went out for a walk with DD3 as it was a lovely warm, windy night. We spotted the full moon over the next door neighbour's garage and I tried to take a photo of it with clouds moving at a good clip across its face, looking like a scene in a movie where something bad is about to go down, but my phone's camera isn't the greatest.

@Gingerwarthog what an adventure!

@Prokupatuscrakedatus yes it is! DH and I got married at the end of October and spent our honeymoon on Cape Cod, in Boston and up in Maine. It was stunning. Clear blue skies, cold but sunny, colours were astounding!

Champagneforeveryone · 21/09/2021 08:47

Day 426 without internet.

Champagne sits in her car with her phone held at an odd angle in order to best convert the 3G signal to 4G.

Champagne has only limited success Confused

Silkiescatz · 21/09/2021 11:14

Dh is now getting all the track and trace calls. He missed one from our area team, tried to call back and got 40 mins of music but is now speaking to them but its all sorry, what?

Asked dh if he thought he had covid, no he says I am immune, I had the vaccines. Then he adds but you had the vaccines too and you have covid so I am no longer sure of my theory.

QuestionableMouse · 21/09/2021 12:22

I blocked the test and trace number after they rang me over twenty times in two days. I'd already spoken to them so not sure why they were hounding me but it got a bit much!

QuestionableMouse · 21/09/2021 12:24

I've just had crumpets and cheese for a light lunch. Thinking about getting in the shower to wash my hair because I used some new styling spray and it feels very crispy.

HelenaJustina · 21/09/2021 13:11

I’ve had an apple and some potato wedges left over from the school canteen for lunch

Silkiescatz · 21/09/2021 13:20

I can understand the blocking Mouse Lucilky for us rabbit ate through our landline wire so its just the mobile they have. Was about an hour of it today but first one, they said its not 10 day rule for DD, they have another rule and its 5 days from test as she tested late, never heard of that rule before but we expected it to end today but she stayed off anyone as still coughing and didnt want to spread it or swap covid varieties with other kids.

I suspect DSs school have stopped doing apples as apple plus wedges is one of his preferred meals, today he just has plain pasta

HelenaJustina · 21/09/2021 13:45

I have re-written 17/37 Risk Assessments as a directive from above says they all must be on the new template by the end of September. Tempted to write a RA measuring the risk of writing RAs to my mental well being.

Silkiescatz · 21/09/2021 15:07

DD is now really cross with me that she has to isolate for longer and says I must have done another test in her name secretly. Confused

MissConductUS · 21/09/2021 16:02

Champagne, have you had any explanation as to why it's taking so long to fix your internet access? Is it just you or your entire neighborhood?

I've decided to get my covid booster jab and have booked it at a local pharmacy right after work.

Great news on the plumbing front, Prok. Perhaps the internet for Champagne will be next.

I have made a victoria sponge cake to eat while watching the Great British Bake Off this evening. DS wasn’t hungry this evening so didn’t want any dinner but somehow, will make space in his stomach for about a quarter of the cake!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/09/2021 19:38

Nydj I googled - of course - but there seems to be a debate in the English speaking kitchens about the proper way to make this cake.
So how do you make it?

Nydj · 21/09/2021 19:56

I used this recipe Victoria sponge cake. I didn’t think there was much debate on how to make a Victoria sponge cake - I learn so many things on mumsnet!

DamnUserName21 · 21/09/2021 20:04

I just drank half a bottle of wine. Not like me. New job stress.

Silkiescatz · 21/09/2021 20:10

I just booked the electrician for the end of October. DH had a chat with the neighbours and they talked about apple trees, electricians and covid. Lots of the year 11s going down with it like dominos.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/09/2021 20:14

Nydj Recipe saved to my one note.
icing sugar = Puderzucker, caster sugar = feiner Raffinadezucker - that's easy
self-raising flour = flour, baking soda and salt or a Chinese supermarket

IWanderedLonely · 21/09/2021 20:29

DH has a cold. As well as getting a minute by minute update on how ill he is I also have the privilege of hearing his so loud they make my ears bleed sneezes.
In other news I need to pick the apples off my (1 and only) apple tree soon. Please can someone weave me some time?

MissConductUS · 21/09/2021 21:00

Weclome, @DamnUserName21, and thanks for sharing your news. Did you start the job this week?

I had never heard of caster sugar before getting on MN. According to Mr Google, regular granulated sugar can be substituted, it just won't dissolve as easily.

I'm hoping the covid jab I'm getting later won't make me feel too poorly. The first two were okay, so I suspect this one will be too.

Prok
Victoria sponge is easy to make but get the right size of tins as specified in the recipe.
I have ruined sponges with too big/small tins. Ready made buttercream icing is always good too.
This evening I mostly ate a lot of salted caramel ice cream...Grin

Lemonsandlemonade · 21/09/2021 21:59

Proper Victoria Sponge should have apricot jam.

The most simple recipe I use which I use in ounces is equal quantity of butter, flour and castor sugar then with half the amount of eggs.

I Chuck them all in the kenwood on slow until done.
