Our home should be a forever home and I love her so much, I look out at the thatch every day and makes me happy.

Hope you hear back soon Champagne I always make low first offers as I always find estate agent rejects first one though its difficult when its a very competitive market. We had to increase twice to get this one and only did it as was totally in love. Normally I am quite ruthless and competitive when negotiating.

Champagneforeveryone · 14/10/2021 10:49

I thought I would be ruthless too silkie but we love the house and frankly I just want it over with. It's a situation where I am prepared to chuck money at the problem!

Pheebs2021 · 14/10/2021 11:42

For an house you absolutely love £10/20,000 for example over 20/5 years is a small price to pay for not having to house hunt/make do.

Champagneforeveryone · 14/10/2021 11:46

That's exactly my thinking pheebs, though I struggle to verbalise it without sounding like a child who has no regard or concept of money Hmm

HelenaJustina · 14/10/2021 12:41

We might be used to it @Prokupatuscrakedatus but that doesn’t mean we enjoy it!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/10/2021 13:33

Helena Don't you? Grin
I'd find the thought of being in debt and my house owned by the bank for ages difficult, but then we aren't 'Häuslebauers' - people who own / built houses, we are renters and have been for generations.

Pheebs2021 · 14/10/2021 13:57

@champagneforeveryone it's easier to vocalise when it's somebody else's money I think.

MissConductUS · 14/10/2021 14:20

Welcome, @bettertimesarecomingnow, and thanks for your saddling news. Who knew that Amazon sold horse leathers?

There's an old saying in New England, going back to colonial times that "Three removes are worse than a fire".

We've been in our house since 2003. It's a lot of house for just the two of us, but now that it looks like DS may move back in next spring, we have no thoughts of moving anytime soon.

@Squirrel26, Canada is indeed a long way away, and the winters are horrific. But it would be nice to have you in the same time zone. Smile

Best of luck Champagne.
We keep talking about downsizing but thenn putting it off "for a year or 2"
DS has moved back home this summer & we have a spare bedroom & a garage full of his crap furniture and bits & bobs.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/10/2021 18:23

Miss Thank you!
"Three removes are worse than a fire".
I wanted to say the same but could not translate it: " Drei mal umgezogen ist wie einmal abgebrannt"

We went from a 1 room, to a 2 room and now a 4 room flat. We got a few more shelves, and 6 PAX wardrobes and lots more books on the way.

Mamamamasaurus · 14/10/2021 18:39

@Silkieschickens

Yes I think I saw a shire horse walk into your house and take it Mama

Rabbits litter tray done. Clothes moved from hot water tank room. Radiators bled. Rubbish collected. Flue being changed outside. Banging coming from boiler room. Helicopter flying over our house.

That fucking horse, you give him an inch..... Every damn time. I'll track him down. Thanks 👌🏽
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/10/2021 18:43

Mama Could you please look if it has got my mat, too? The mat is ugly and has a shark on it.

StartingAgain6369 · 14/10/2021 20:17

I really like this thread, thanks to all the contributors

Got woken up just before 6am with DD (13) shouting for me saying she's not well, anyway as we all know when dad's and DD are involved there's only one winner and yes she didn't go into school. For all those concerned she's ok, the illness didn't stop use of her mobile phone or the ability to shout dad

Ducks have enjoyed dad having an extra day at home, they've had wander around the garden and field with the occasional peck at the patio doors asking to come in

Going back to DD if anyone knows how you apply for a Oscar I would be grateful

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/10/2021 21:49

starting I think you should at least pretend to make a film before you apply for a Oscar. Otherwise it would be too easy.

Mamamamasaurus · 14/10/2021 21:53

Oh no. I'm so sorry to tell you this. He's flossing his arse crack with it. Might wanna give that a rinse through 😕
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/10/2021 22:05

mama It's nice to know where it is, but he may keep it. The DC are grown now and have no longer any use for it.

Silkieschickens · 14/10/2021 22:14

Starting I think you need to make a film first maybe Diaries of a teenage Dad with ducks.

Mama Hope you have tracked that horse down. If not we have some experienced horse catchers on this thread though they do get kicked a bit.

Had workmen in all day. This seemed to make DH super grumpy as he couldn't nap as he doesn't want workmen to see him napping, its clearly a sign of male weakness and he's been like a toddler that didn't nap with a lot of French swearing. Hmm The plumbing for the dishwasher is in, not much use at the moment as we need the carpenter to fit the dishwasher and possibly a plug added but its progress. New boiler is in though just hot water at the moment and heating comes back when they finish boiler tomorrow. Think the boiler will be completed tomorrow and the electrics hopefully though not sure if all of them can be done pre carpentry.

DH wants another electrician to come in and do whole house electrics but we don't have to do that until 2023. Next week or week after is carpentry. We may also get two radiators moved for when we have a bedroom added back in and stairs rebuilt but that needs planning and listed buildings consent first so that gives a break at least.

Signed DD up to GCSE French as she requested.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/10/2021 22:23

On the topic of swearing - fun MFL fact:
Swearing at a person using the formal pronoun 'Sie' is considered to be more insulting than when using the informal 'Du'.
I wonder it this is the same in French?

StartingAgain6369 · 14/10/2021 22:29

@Prokupatuscrakedatus @Silkieschickens thanks for the film idea, I will give it serious consideration.

Being on film will be just up DD road, but I won't mention it yet to DD as trying to get her to do anything with correct hair/makeup/outfit combination is extremely difficult and dad is hoping to make retirement with hair, it's currently very grey

Silkieschickens · 14/10/2021 22:50

I have no idea Prok DH doesnt use either just merde a lot. Its the only French word he uses to us, MIL told him off when I told her. He said he is tired, its also hard for him to wfh with all the noise and workmen everywhere and Silkiecat has reverted to calling him at night so she can sleep through the work.

Starting I have a teenage DD and we also have the hair dye and clothing constant changes, hair is currently half black, half white, this could be the whole film along with lying in bed on your phone plus a few parties. Dd is always asking my advice and I am allergic to hair dye, never really use make up and live in floral dresses (partly as its the only thing of my clothes she doesn't take to wear herself) so am Confused as to what to advise.

StartingAgain6369 · 15/10/2021 11:18

DD illness day 2, opened her bedroom door just gone 7am, got grumped at and told 'I'm not going to school' so I quickly shut the door, departed downstairs and made a coffee

Ducks are sunbathing on the patio pleased daddy is around

So WFH today and about to go on a 4 way Zoom call with a new team member who looks way to young, old age is catching up with me

Silkieschickens · 15/10/2021 11:35

Sunbathing ducks 🦆🦆😍

Lovely sunny day here too. Plumber and electrician here today. Had 2 hot cross buns and a cup of tea. DH gave the youngest plumber 10 pounds, I said to DH yesterday the older two plumbers are mean with him and he agreed, he seems to do far more work than them as well and they go for lunch without him and leave him to work with no break and he starts before them.

School are possibly offering dd to sit exams in small rooms, I did that at university, it was lovely beautiful old room, in my college whereas everyone else had to walk 15 mins to the subject centre and just me. I said sorry to the student covering it and he said no its amazing for me I get paid loads for this and have to do nothing. She got to school on time second day in a row, there are perks of workmen in the house.

Any news Champagne Hopefully its your by now. DH got a good nights sleep and is in a much better mood, phew. We had steak fajitas last night.

Squirrel26 · 15/10/2021 11:36

At least she asks your advice, @Silkiescatz. That’s nice.

Finished all of the current series of Virgin River last night. Now I need another slightly improbable soap opera-style series with moments of mild peril and a tendency to bounce wildly between comedy and tragedy with very little time for reflection. Maybe I should just go back to watching Eastenders.

Silkieschickens · 15/10/2021 11:55

I watched all of Virgin River and enjoyed it. Just watched Maid which is good and addictive but quite depressing. Liked the series with the teenage boy with autism who loves penguins, their family is quite like ours, though a boy who came over insisted our family is identical to Paddington Bears family from the film which is probably an almost identical match.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 15/10/2021 12:38

Silkie Pity your DH doesn't know - now I have to find out by myself. 'Merde' is part of my vocabulary and I still call the thing I carry money and cards in a 'portemonnaie' and walk on a 'trottoir' all words handed down through the ages - I also say 'verdorrie'.

It is raining here, and quite windy.
