Hello all. It was my birthday yesterday and I'm getting my hair done tomorrow. Today is therefore limbo day. I've done almost nothing.
I used to have rescue hens who would shout at the kitchen door til I let them in. One (Daphne) used to flap up onto the window sill & glare or dig about in the window box to make her point. But that's a whole nother story.

Silkieschickens · 13/10/2021 18:04

Happy birthday Owlink and nice to hear your chicken news.

Workmen have now gone home and we have our house back. They have taken out the hot water tank, bled the radiators, taken old boiler off. We are boilerless over night but we have cold water and an electric shower and its not too cold here atm, 15C at present so that's fine. They will be here all day tomorrow plus an electrician and probably Friday as well. Then carpenter next Thursday.

DH is having a nap. DS had a nap. Silkiecat has just woken up from her nap and is not impressed with DH.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 13/10/2021 18:15

Owlink I hope you had a lovely day yesterday!

Great that the first half of your work has been done without too much "disgruntlement" to DCat Silkie did you get a chance for a nap / cake / suitable alcohol / soft drink, too?

Silkieschickens · 13/10/2021 18:28

Yes I had a nap Prok though didn't sleep at all last night so still tired. I have just been drinking elderflower cordial, have had a doughnut and a danish pastry today. Need to eat something healthier for dinner.

nancybotwinbloom · 13/10/2021 18:40

I'm going in the hot tub with wine in a bit for a catch up with my sister. Haven't seen her for two weeks

Owlink · 13/10/2021 18:57

Thanks for the birthday wishes. Am having a lovely, lazy time. Bleeding radiators reminds me of James Robertson Justice in one of the Doctor films - what's the bleeding time etc Wink

MissConductUS · 13/10/2021 20:10

Welcome, @Owlink and happy birthday! I have two cats, so I think rescue hens would be a bad mix for us.

We viewed a house this evening and have tentatively put in an offer
Shock

I am almost giddy with the adultness of that statement Grin

MissConductUS · 13/10/2021 20:57

Well done, champagne! Welcome to adulting and massive mortgage debt. Grin

Champagne That is a step, I will keep my fingers crossed for you. (Ich halte die Daumen.)

Champagneforeveryone · 13/10/2021 21:30

Thanks Smile

It seems inconceivable that someone would actually loan me that much money Confused

bettertimesarecomingnow · 13/10/2021 21:37

I borrowed a saddle from a friend today and it fits dpony. It has no stirrups or leathers so I had to order them from Amazon

Tomorrow I am going to clean the saddle.

Good luck with the house offer Champagne Is it very competitive for houses there or has it calmed down now. We sold ours in October and was a bit of a frenzy then for average size houses with good sized gardens but now its more normal again there now stamp duty thing ended.

Dd took her shower tonight and ironed her shirt tonight, very organised.

Silkieschickens · 14/10/2021 00:14

I have ordered Lord of the Flies for DD. She announced tonight she also wants to do French GCSE so will get school to add her to that though will take her up to 13 which seems far too many to me.

She was impressed by my Duolingo Russian and she is at an age where she isn't easy to impress.

She said the computer studies teacher at the 6th form told her brother off for pulling a face then he looked really anxious (he's only just stopped being mute at school) so she said she told the teacher off and they apologised. She insisted they went alone and took her brother round on her open day. They seem to have seen lots of subjects.

Champagneforeveryone · 14/10/2021 00:47

Silkie that's really sweet of your DD Star

It's very competitive here still and I can hardly dare to believe that it could actually be ours. The vendors previous sale fell through and the agent sneakily told me what their offer was. She also said she had warned them they were not likely to get that a second time, so we have decided to say "bugger it" and offer the same amount. The house is perfect and is weirdly almost identical to the house I have always imagined myself living in Smile

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 14/10/2021 01:11

Crossing everything for you @Champagneforeveryone. If you get sorted, it will definitely be Champagne for all.

Things have been quiet here with me. I'm currently decluttering the house pre Christmas.

mathanxiety · 14/10/2021 05:32

Here's hoping Wine Champagne.

I lugged the remaining boxes from the basement to the alley in the morning, then remembered that Monday had been a holiday so the garbage collection would be put back a day. However, they rumbled down the alley as usual, so I was glad I had got cracking. I also made a run to the thrift shop to donate multiple items. I have another load to go tomorrow. Just as I got back it started to rain, and now my deck plants are all soaked again. I brought in the new jasmine because temps will be in the 50s (F) here tonight.

We all heard a little screech of brakes and a dull thud from out on the street earlier this evening. I went out to see if someone had crashed into my parked car, but it was a two car crash at the top of the block , with both cars having mowed down someone's front garden Hallowe'en graveyard scene before coming to rest among the debris. The emergency vehicles arrived but it looked as if nobody was hurt.

HelenaJustina · 14/10/2021 06:19

How exciting Champagne! We consider ourselves as being in our ‘forever’ house, though I do browse Rightmove occasionally. I would be happy never to move house again.

I nipped into a supermarket between DC activity pickups last night, I only needed pitta but came out with more than an armful as it was yellow-sticker-tastic in there. Cinnamon and raisin bagel for me for breakfast this morning, can’t decide whether to eat it now or to take it to work for mid-morning.

Champagneforeveryone · 14/10/2021 06:25

helena this will have to be my forever house. I've always wanted to buy a house but have found that I have hated every single second of it, and it's not like we're in a terribly stressful position.

I would very much like to chuck money at this situation and then never move again Grin

Silkieschickens · 14/10/2021 07:23

Hope you get it Champagne, lovely that you have found somewhere you love. The buying / selling process is stressful. Its worth getting at a good survey not the basic ones to show what work is needed, they are a bit pricey but help to know what you will need to do and know answers to issues when selling, if a lot comes up can ask for money off.

I got 4 hours sleep last night which is good for me but feel quite shattered still and both ears still feel full of water.

Silkieschickens · 14/10/2021 08:40

One workman here and DD left for school 5 mins early Shock, we need workmen everyday to get her out the house on time. Plumbing and electrics today. The old boiler and hot water tank are out apart from a few pipes in hot water tank room. We have had to clear that room completely and will be glad to be able to get it back so stuff isn't spread around rest of house though only a small room. Luckily quite mild still though I am under the duvet where I will stay. Silkiecat was very unbothered yesterday sleeping all day but got annoyed with DH in the night as her plan was to spend the night awake giving tasks to DH who was sleeping, how rude.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/10/2021 08:51

I thought people in the UK were used to buying / selling houses? Grin

If our LL finds somebody to buy this renovation project for the luxury flat price he wants (he has been trying for at least 5 years now), we get to see the finalized contract and can then decide if we want to take over.

sproutsandparsnips · 14/10/2021 09:25

Ooh that is very exciting Champagne (almost too exciting!)
I have managed to hand in my notice this week which will mean I can start new job before Christmas and (this is definitely too exciting) I will not have to work nights or bank holidays for the first time in 23 years!
I am off today before 2 long days so I must organise everything so it runs smoothly in my absence. I am going to hoover and mop and clean out a musty smelling cupboard in the utility room. I am a little bit nervous about what I might find in there.......

Pheebs2021 · 14/10/2021 09:26

I don't think to be honest our house is a forever house but it's going to have to be. The thought of moving again sends me quite frankly into a bit of a panic and we didn't even have too bad experience. I've said only way I'll move is if we win the lottery and move to a big mansion or if we move abroad but for another house in the same county no chance.

Squirrel26 · 14/10/2021 10:26

I’m also never moving again. Although I’m not sure how that’s going to work with my plans to emigrate to Canada. Which I’ve heard is quite a long way away.
