Oh @MissConductUS Have a lovely weekend Flowers what a treat.

Pheebs2021 · 05/10/2021 17:30

We also have the Ring system, would totally recommend it.
Well your DH should really know better, he is her servent damn it!

Silkieschickens · 05/10/2021 18:41

DH should know better as chosen cat servant, a very privileged position to be awarded but it does require 24/7 total dedication to Silkiecat. Silkiecat just found DH napping for the 3rd time today Angry and not only that when I spoke to him he answered before seeing Silkiecat. Everytime he spoke to me Silkiecat went meooooow. He did try to bring her on the bed with him but Silkiecat was having none of this inferior service, she is in the dining room so DH needs to be and he also needs to stop talking to me.

Happy a lovely weekend MissC

We have had a quote from the plumber who came yesterday who apparently has had a cancellation so can come next week. DH said he gave a quote for the boiler and fitting the dishwasher and wanted to know if it was OK before typing it. It was £100 cheaper than the other one, a boiler make we prefer with 12 year guarantee and includes dishwasher fitting which other one didn't. DH didn't ask if either quote had VAT included which is 20% but this plumber if better than the other one so will go with him anyway. Its a combi boiler so hot water tank will come out leading to more space in our upstairs clothes room. Should also bring gas prices down quite a bit as old boiler is 30 years old.

DH is trying to nap now and Silkiecat has just called him and DH said wearily Papa will come Silkiecat, groan. The cat is meant to be sympathetic to his groan but that won't work.

Need to decide on dinner. I have been on a thread about mince pies so think will have to get more of those. I want toffee apples but they are not here yet.

Silkieschickens · 05/10/2021 18:58

DD got an invite for the 12-15 vaccinations. Initially filled in 5 page form then rejected presumably as she had covid within 28 days. Then that day got cancelled and it got moved. Filled in form and accepted. Now we have just been sent e-mail by school from NHS saying as on new date she will be 16 then are cancelling it and she should find her own one elsewhere. Still that should be easier than finding the NHS dentist I need, just read on BBC a woman who pulled 13 of her own teeth out as can't get one. Thankfully can afford to go private rather than wait 2 /3 years.

Pheebs2021 · 05/10/2021 19:04

Ddog bans all and any acts of affection between DH and I. . She shoves herself in the middle of hugs

Silkieschickens · 05/10/2021 19:09

Silkiecat would not allow that either. If DH looks at me when Silkiecat is on him he gets a warning paw put out with claws out on his neck. If he speaks with me he gets a paw over his mouth. We can sometimes get round it by adding Silkiecat's name to every sentence.

Pheebs2021 · 05/10/2021 19:11

I have just done a criminal act - I ate the entirety of my meat from my Meal :O she is most offended.
Silkiecat sounds brilliant, she needs her own youtube channel or something.

Silkieschickens · 05/10/2021 19:24

That is very selfish of you Pheebs Though DD is even worse for Silkiecat as she became vegetarian, after that DD became a non-interesting person.

DS is Silkiecat's favourite for food as he only eats half his meals and is too lazy to take his plate to the kitchen so puts it on top of the piano instead. That is why we have the musical Silkiecat, she steps on the keys to eat the rest of his meals.

Pheebs2021 · 05/10/2021 19:35

DH is getting dog snuggles as he left some of his meat for her.

Not that she's fickle or anything!

Silkieschickens · 05/10/2021 21:57

Fridge doesn't work still. I suspected as much when he said wait until morning to see if it works. He says it'll now be too expensive to repair. Not impressed as its a 3 year old Bosch. DH says he will complain though I pointed out no-one will care about his complaints, it had a 2 year warranty. He then said well he will take it back to the shop he bought it from so they can dispose of it. That will show them. Grin

I checked and it says they do offer a recycling service, it says it is free but then had a star by it but no explanation of what the star meant so I told DH to call them as if he puts the fridge in car boot and they won't take it he won't be able to get a new fridge in. Stars next to things normally mean they aren't really available its just a sales pitch IME.

Contacted boiler company and hopefully they are coming in next week if we can get carpenter and electrician in as well. DH said they had suggested we just put electrics on extension socket at first but not sure about that being thatched. So now they are sorting electrician and carpenter hopefully. The ones we contacted have big delays.

I’ve just made a big-ish decision that I may regret…I made a rule on outlook to divert my senior colleague’s emails to junk. I just need her to shush as she makes my hackles rise and peace seems happier. She’s nicer to deal with (still not nice) in person, so she’ll have to stop sending passive aggressive nonsense. Just had to tell someone…

Silkieschickens · 06/10/2021 04:47

DH has ordered a new fridge but is now suffering trauma from spending some of his money. He was saying bye-bye money, clearly suffering from separation anxiety Grin

HildaTablet · 06/10/2021 13:05

I think there's no alternative to a new fridge, though, silkies. Sometimes you've just got to bite the bullet (or Dh has to!)

My OH is currently sorting out piles of stuff to go to the tip tomorrow. Slowly but surely we're getting rid of great piles of extraneous goods which we've been harbouring for ages. That's the problem with having a reasonably big house where you can stash stuff and then forget you have it.

Anything usable is going on Freegle; we're discovering that just about anything gets snapped up very quickly.

Our Beko fridge started fading during first lockdown, and I ordered a new one in April from our local supplier; but they were having trouble getting deliveries and it didn't arrive until September.
MissConductUS · 06/10/2021 14:23

Purple, that's a pretty bold strategy. Does she ever email you about things you need to act on, or is it all just an annoyance?

Silkie, I assume you didnt' order another Bosch. Have they given you an estimate for how long it will take for the new one to arrive?

Hilda, we also have a large house with a basement and attic, and have accumulated large amounts of junk. I have to get more organized about picking things to put out for bulk pick up day.

It's drizzling here, which is a bit gloomy. DH has ordered a new snowblower, as the current one is 18 years old. It still works, it's just a bit temperamental. I think we're going to keep it and leave it on the deck in the winter so that we don't have to keep dragging the snowblower through the house to use it on the deck.

DS starts his journey home from Boston. I've asked DH to text him to see if he wants an appointment to get his hair cut on Friday.

Yes definitely need a fridge. We've been managing without for a month or so now and as we live by the supermarket its been OK but definitely better to have one. We only have small ones over here usually, just undercounter ones. There was one integrated, undercounter one available to collect immediately so we got that one, its a Kenwood one, looks fine and was fairly cheap though DH added the 5 year warranty.

The carpenter is coming at 5.30pm then DH may get the fridge after that though there's also an excess clothes collection to donate to the school for tomorrow morning so we may do that instead and get fridge tomorrow but will see.

Good luck clearing things - we had loads to clear when we moved in February after 10 years though as we had 2 homes for 2 years (renovations for sale/lockdown/sale) we ended up with too much stuff so we have more to clear here though its only clothes to go in the clearing left.

Silkieschickens · 06/10/2021 17:54

The carpenter came round to quote for kitchen but annoyingly DH told him we werent using him as he cant do it next week so not to quote but we don't have anyone that can do it next week. DH was just well I want it done next week then I said but we cant get anyone for next week and he was Blush Had explained before but DH just sent the guy home.

Pheebs2021 · 06/10/2021 20:09

Gin on a work night is OK when it's a day ending in Y, right?

MissConductUS · 06/10/2021 20:49

Sorry, I left off a word. DS starts his journey home tomorrow. We should see him by late afternoon if all goes well. DH has booked a haircut appointment for him on Friday.

Pheebs, of course it's okay. Just extend your pinkie finger when you lift the glass. Grin

Well done on the fridge, Silkie. Our backup fridge in the garage was a very cheap Hotpoint (GE's low end brand), with wire shelves and one knob to adjust the temperature for both the fridge and freezer compartments. 15 years later it's still going strong.

The dog is asleep in my lap. So I am unable to change the tv channel (the same dog ate so many remote controls I gave up replacing them) and am stuck watching a program about Pru Leith’s massive new house and garden. It’s making me unattractively envious. Also, I can’t get a cup of tea.

Oh no, @Silkiescatz, I feel for you and hope you can get the electrics, plumbing and carpentry sorted out soon
Lemonsandlemonade · 06/10/2021 21:42

Went to see MIL today.

Tried to keep DS awake so he could see his dad before bed … he fell asleep on play mat half an hour before DH due home 🙈.

DM is on holiday with friends … first without my DF.

Pheebs2021 · 06/10/2021 21:53

Doing the house up was the pain of my life in 2019 I feel your pain. It felt like you had to beg the trades people to quote at times!

HelenaJustina · 06/10/2021 22:18

Currently drinking my cup of tea. Did the second of two secondary tours in two days with DC3 this evening, just to add the crowning touch to an already hectic week. Am hosting/cooking lunch for 15 on Saturday after DC2 receives the sacrament of Confirmation, I need to do some of the thinking for this.

BasiliskStare · 07/10/2021 00:11

Ooh @Squirrel26 I read an article about Pro Leith's previous house - any chance you could tell me which channel her new house is on ( assuming Dog will let you use the computer and has not eaten the keyboard along with the remote controls ) Grin DH has a fancy new TV system put in & I now end up watching what is on very often because I can't work the control.

What I need is a massive ( my eyes are bad ) Control - which just has FOYLE'S WAR , MORSE , LEWIS - press 1 2 or 3 - for other options get your magnifying glass out Grin
