I spotted there was a deal for 2 Indian mains, rice and naan bread plus 4 cokes or 4 beers at the supermarket for £7 and told DH. DH loves saving money and was very excited and proud to get this though he was slightly miffed all the cobra beers had gone. But the cokes came in the cute small glass bottles which he was happy with as he said it reminded him of cafes in France as a child. He said they always wanted coke at the cafe but orangina was bigger bottles so it was a dilemma. We always wanted the orangina in French cafes as it was a novelty.

Silkiecat woke up and gave DH three very cross meows on realising she could see the bottom of her food bowl. DH duly apologised and filled her food bowls and Silkiecat was happy again. She is very sleepy these days and sleeps on the dining room table with her feet over DHs neck as he works from home.

Weather here is just about perfect, but the mornings are noticeably darker and evenings are growing dark earlier. I'm up at the crack of silly o'clock for work and only a few weeks ago it used to be bright enough not to need the lights on in the kitchen, but not any more.

I think tomorrow may well be the last day of the local Farmer's Market and I'm planning to go and buy a half dozen celebratory doughnuts. Fingers crossed the used car I'm buying gets delivered as promised. If it doesn't, then the doughnuts will be nice anyway.

Lemonsandlemonade · 02/10/2021 03:26

@Silkiescatz you have taken me back with your glass bottles story. Reminds me of many happy family holidays in France.

Orangina I had forgotten about that drink used to love the bottles.

We also used to drink something called Citron Presse like homemade lemonade but you mixed it yourself at the table. I haven’t thought about that drink for years.

Silkieschickens · 02/10/2021 05:03

Lemon I love the citron presse as well. I wish we could all go and see French MIL, not seen her for 2 years and DH for 18 months now Sad, at least the quarantining on both sides has finally gone but still a lot of tests and DS won't cope with those. DH may be able to go alone.

Just won on premium bonds. £25 I will be careful not to spend it all at once. Grin

Pheebs2021 · 02/10/2021 08:05

A glass bottle always makes a drink taste nicer. I hate happy memories of a glass bottle of Orangeina.

Champagneforeveryone · 02/10/2021 12:25

I didn't sleep after nights yesterday so tried to bed a little before 6pm, where I stayed until 11am - I feel awesome Grin

DH and I are going to view a house later. It's an open house day so I don't feel so bad, but we have little (if any) intention of buying it and are using it as a guide of what we can afford in our chosen area ie- not a lot. It's actually my first ever house viewing and I feel strangely nervous about being so grown up Grin

MissConductUS · 02/10/2021 13:23

Happy Caturday, lovely people of the thread!

I've done an early run and am about to go out to do a bit of shopping. My dear brother recently retired and is having a retirement party today at his house. My nephews will be there, along with two large dogs and a toddler. We haven't had a family get together like this in ages due to covid, so this will really be fun. The nephew who is married and has the LO and his wife have driven down from Massachusettes for the weekend.

Champagne, visitors to an open house who have no intention to buy are sometimes called "lookey-loos". It's fine though, since you may tell someone else about the house even if you don't want it.

I have successfully swapped ring for a bar in an ear piercing which is in a very awkward place to swap, without dropping any part of it down the sink. Was a bit infected before and the ring was making it worse and it now already looks better.

I hope that is sufficiently really dull!!

HelenaJustina · 02/10/2021 15:02

DC1 is having a sleepover tonight with two friends from school, this is massive as DC has ASD and finds friendships and social interaction harder to negotiate that a neurotypical child of the same age. It’s such a marker of how they have come in the last two years. But we are all desperate for it to be a resounding success, very stressful.
The three girls have met in town and I’m sitting in a coffee shop while they mooch. Then we’ve got baking and hot glue gun crafting for them to do at home.

I’m carrying a slight nagging headache but woke up this morning with one and knew it was due to jaw clenching as could feel the tension, haven’t managed to shake it yet but it’s most likely dehydration.

HelenaJustina · 02/10/2021 15:03

@Champagneforeveryone let us know how the viewing goes. Best of luck with the adulting!

Champagneforeveryone · 02/10/2021 15:08

Thank you helena, I was just about to wish you DC luck for tonight! Flowers

Adulting was ok. The house is exceptionally small which is to be expected on our budget in our location, but without DS we could definitely make it work. Unfortunately DS is no longer blonde haired, blue eyed and angelic so options to sell him are somewhat limited Wink

Gingerwarthog · 02/10/2021 15:27

Good luck for your daughter's sleepover Helena.
That is a real milestone for her and so is the shopping in town. Brilliant.

MissConductUS · 02/10/2021 16:28

Welcome, @Makelovenotpetrol, and thanks for sharing your body modification and infection mitigation news. I can assure you that it was indeed suitably mundane.

Helena, fingers crossed for a successful sleepover. I did them occasionally as a kid, but my two never did. It seems to be falling out of favor here.

Champagne, you could dye his hair blond. Perhaps he could be collateral for a bigger mortgage. Smile

I made my infamous Death by Chocolate brownies last night (recipe sill available by request) and a batch of chocolate chip cookies to take to the retirement party today. Both were specifically requested by my brother and nephew. While shopping at the warehouse club this morning I restocked baking supplies, getting a 12-pound bag of flour, pecans, and chocolate chips. I also picked up a 15-pound bag of basmati rice, which I suspect will last us two years or so.

It's time to change the filter in the Britta pitcher, which means that I have to take the whole thing apart for a good cleaning. I'll do that before we leave for DB's house, in about an hour. It's a lovely drive and will take us about 40 minutes to get there. I'm so excited to see my two year old nephew!

I have had a lazy day - mainly in bed, reading, mumsnetting and watching a little bit of white tiger on Netflix. Weather is perfect for this.

Miss, my mum used to buy massive bags of rice as we used to get through it quickly but also because she liked to keep at least one massive bag to rice to ‘age’. Rice is better as it ages according to mum and who am I to argue with her wisdom on all things food related?

Champagneforeveryone · 02/10/2021 18:07

I can't see that really working miss. He would have blonde hair but it would be shoulder length, we would be dressed all in black and would come with several guitars and a drum kit - I suspect his would be rather a niche market Grin

IWanderedLonely · 02/10/2021 18:39

We've been decorating our bedroom and I have discovered my mum's 21st birthday cards (she's 91). She gave them to me years ago and I thought I'd lost them.

Silkieschickens · 02/10/2021 19:01

DD has been out with friends in the village all afternoon and is now at another friends 16th birthday party.

DS is snuggled up with a warm new fleece hoodie and under several fleece blankets on the sofa with rabbit.

About to start making dinner, having giant fish fingers with baked beans, chips and bread and butter.

Thats lovely for your daughter Helena

Lemonsandlemonade · 02/10/2021 19:57

Sat watching Strictly. Made pork casserole for tea.

My DN has gone to uni today for first day.

Missing my Dad tonight he passed March 2020.

MissConductUS · 02/10/2021 20:18

We're at DB's house and it's a lovely fall afternoon and fabulous to have the whole family together again. My two year old nephew is beyond adorable and we're all sitting in the garden waiting for dinner. It'll be chicken Marsala with rice and salads. My lovely SIL has done the sensible thing and had a local restaurant cater the meal.

Lemons, sorry about your dad. I lost mine a few years ago.

@MissConductUS that sounds lovely, so nice to be doing something near normal.

Sleepover going well so far, they’ve eaten a vegetable and a fruit which I’m taking as a win. DC had made goody bags with sweets, nail varnish, fluffy socks, face masks etc in thank you Primark and they are happily watching Strictly, I suspect more sweets came back with them from town. The noise level seems to have abated since we forcibly removed the younger siblings. They are directly below DC4 aged 8 so hoping they keep it down for a little while.

@Champagneforeveryone what will you do re house? Bigger in different location or look to offload DS and go for preferred location?!

Pheebs2021 · 02/10/2021 20:40

Cake and a cup of tea - rock and roll Saturday night ... couldn't think of anything better!

Silkieschickens · 02/10/2021 20:47

Thought I was getting better but was just very sick and didnt even make it to the bathroom and we have carpets, lovely. Cleaned everything, had bath and now back to bed.

Dh is playing piano. Will eat dinner shortly.

Gingerwarthog · 02/10/2021 21:32

Silkie sounds like you're really going through it.
Take care and cuddle that cat.
Watched Strictly.
Made chocolate sponge.

HelenaJustina · 02/10/2021 21:42

Made chocolate sponge here too with chocolate frosting. All dairy free as one of the guests is intolerant. It’s in the fridge chilling as they started it rather late, so they’ll have to eat it for breakfast!
