Crossing my fingers that the recycling truck will take the masses of boxes I left out.

mathanxiety · 29/09/2021 18:31

Yesss! Possibly too exciting, but the boxes are on their way down the alley in the truck.

Next week's exciting installment will feature a mattress and the sticker they make you buy. Possibly an old suitcase too, though I might donate it if there's room in my car, and after a spider inspection.

Silkiescatz · 29/09/2021 18:46

Your town sounds beautiful ZZ

DH asked what we could have for dinner and I suggested salmon, spinach and new potatoes and DH was so excited by that he looked like he was about to start jumping up and down. Silkiecat will have a similar reaction.

Pheebs2021 · 29/09/2021 20:03

It's definitely feeling wintery in my part of the country... I refuse to put the heating on yet. I'm not ready to embrace winter.

MissConductUS · 29/09/2021 20:16

ZZ, it's so lovely to see you again. I was about to organize a search party. Smile

Champagne, have you considered rechargeable batteries? We use them for almost everything that needs batteries and keeps some in a charger at all times.

Math, today was paper recycling pickup for us too. The only things we need to buy a sticker for are old appliances that we want the town to take on bulk pickup day.

Pheebs, I've put the heating on a few times. We've been getting overnight temps around 9 degrees C. I also have a space heater in the bathroom for when I take a shower and don't want to turn the heat up.

I clicked the thermostat in for the central heating yesterday.

Ds is watching sport on the main TV, DH will be out tomorrow evening, DH and I are both out on Friday evening so we will have a bumper crop of Richard Osman’s House of Game to watch at the weekend. We do dull and unexciting very well here Grin.

HelenaJustina · 29/09/2021 21:56

It’s chilly here but we are holding out on the heating front. About to go to bed with a cup of tea to warm up.

Pheebs2021 · 29/09/2021 22:06

We've had a lovely cup of tea whilst DH watches football and I've read my book I went back to basics tonight and put towels near the doors DH found it funny. I think it comes from my childhood that it's somewhat a challenge to avoid putting the heating on even though I can afford to put it on.

IWanderedLonely · 29/09/2021 22:09

DH is very careful with money Wink but he has put the heating on tonight to test it.
I don't expect it to be back on before November.

Silkiescatz · 29/09/2021 22:10

Just had our salmon, spinach and new potatoes followed by a banana, Silkiecat has had her salmon and some of DSs as he loves feeding Silkiecat. We always have thermostat set to 20C so on here. Dd sometimes turns it up to 25C, if DS sees it he turns it down to 5C. If Silkiecat could control it would be set to 30C.

mathanxiety · 29/09/2021 22:47

I was going to get dinner started but DD3 is using the oven to bake pumpkin bread with choc chips.

I wouldn't mind having that for dinner instead of the baked Italian sausage, green pepper, onion, potato and halloumi mish mash I had planned.

Pleasant temps here this evening, expecting about 15.5C for the overnight low. I'm going to put my jasmine plant back out on the deck.

MissConductUS · 29/09/2021 22:53

Math, your sausage bake sounds delicious. I'm surprised it's going to be so much warmer for you tonight than it will be here. We're forecast to go back down to 8-9 degrees here.

We're having pasta and meatballs here. The meatballs are from the posh Italian grocery store.

The mildness is very surprising. Hard to believe we're so close to October.

Silkiescatz · 29/09/2021 23:41

Its a low of 7C here tonight.

Could here noise from the living room so said to DH that sounds like rabbit. DH said yes I put the box with the Ikea table in the living room and rabbit is trying to get into it by eating it. DS sleeps with rabbit and not sure how much sleep he will get as rabbit sounds like he plans an all night box eating party. Though DS is fast asleep through rabbits munching atm.

Lemonsandlemonade · 30/09/2021 04:29

At up waiting for ds to finish feeding feel hungry and thirsty and can hear the rain hammering down.

Silkieschickens · 30/09/2021 04:38

DD brought rabbit up to show me and he looked really sleepy so she put him back and both the boys are fast asleep. DH is awake and here with me. He said I can make you a drink, what drink would you like. I said what drinks do you have. He said lemon squash. I said I would like a lemon squash then please. Grin Its excellent service but a bit like a 1980s communist bar range.

I checked which carpenter it was from phone number and it linked to a company that makes the most beautiful metal gates and now I am in love with their gates with animals and flowers in.

HelenaJustina · 30/09/2021 06:23

@Lemonsandlemonade there is nothing quite like the peace of a night feed. Me and my baby alone in the world.

Squirrel26 · 30/09/2021 11:23

Instagram is showing me ads for private aviation companies. Apparently I am living a lifestyle on there that is far above my means.

MissConductUS · 30/09/2021 14:01

Squirrel, perhaps it's an omen of good fortune. It might be a good day to buy a lottery ticket. Smile

DS has decided he wants to come home for the Columbus Day three-day weekend coming up and that he plans on driving. I am a bit concerned because while the car he has is quite reliable, it is nine years old. There will also be a great deal of traffic and at 4-5 hours in the car, it's a long drive to do alone.

I could take a day of AL and go pick him up, then DH and I could drive him back. I may be being unreasonably cautious though. I've asked DH to discuss it with him.

I hope he makes it.

I am soooo excited to see DD over Columbus Day - am trying not to think about what the drive will be like for her.

Hope your DD is having a fun day today :-)

ZZ, how is your DD getting home for the weekend? Does she have a car on campus? I think ours is a bit jealous that her brother has one and she doesn't.

I don't really want to go pick DS up because 9-10 hours in the car is no fun, but I also don't want to worry about him.

OP posts:
Silkieschickens · 30/09/2021 18:55

Squirrel If you have premium bonds someone said on the Premium Bonds thread today is the day they tell 2 people they have won £1 million each so presumably one is coming for you. If not I'm sure the other one must have came here when I was asleep so I can send you some of my million as I don't need the whole lot. Grin

DH finally got hold of the plumber. Quite an achievement, we have both been trying since 20th September. DH got hold of him once before and he moaned about people asking for quotes for new boilers. Hmm Now DH got him to say he will come Monday pm. So hard to get an accredited with boiler company plumber that has reviews.

Think our cars have always been about 9 years old and not broken down though a lot of people get breakdown cover here incase they do. I will have all this worry to come once DD learns. I am certain she will speed as well.

DH is seeming better now finally and DD is back at school OK, DS seems to have escaped. I still feel rough, so so dizzy and sick but taste is back, ears are very slightly less blocked. Rabbit had about 10 minutes of box biting but is snuggling with DS now.

Hope all is OK with you Prok and Sunbird24 I have been keeping up my Duolingo Russian Prok though DH is Hmm

Yes she does have a car at the moment because she is having to live off campus this semester, and it makes it easier for her to get back and forth. She's trying to convince me that it's really handy having a car, and that she'd like to keep it once she's on campus next semester. I have to admit that the convenience of her being able to drive herself home for the occasional weekend/holiday is swaying me towards saying yes, as the idea of driving 3+ hours either way to do pickup/dropoff isn't appealing, and there are no direct buses or trains from there to Maine.

I do worry about her when she does the drive through Mass on Friday afternoons though... especially holiday weekend.

I used to drive very long distances at their age, often in very old unreliable cars. But then I was also in a few crashes and near misses... and I broke down a few times... it's a worry isn't it?

Squirrel26 · 30/09/2021 20:31

Ooh I do have a few Premium Bonds. Fingers crossed!
I'm not sure I'd spend my money on a private plane though, even if I did have millions. Grin
