(Well it did; I did the work. But the actual transfer of funds is nothing to do with me. Grin)

Champagneforeveryone · 28/09/2021 11:46

This is almost the end of Frugal Living month one edition.

I have £9 left in my account (though my house savings are looking very healthy!) until Thursday. It will be nice to see something in there, even for the short period it remains Grin

Squirrel26 · 28/09/2021 12:39

I had £47 left in my account yesterday.
It would have been more, but I accidentally bought some doughnuts.

Pheebs2021 · 28/09/2021 12:54

A frugal challenge?
What's this all about? My accounts would be very encouraging of me doing something like this!

MissConductUS · 28/09/2021 13:49

Squirrel, similar things happen to me. For example, I can have free-range organic tofu on my shopping list and leave the supermarket with a pint or two of Ben & Jerry's instead.

I get paid every other week on Thursday. This is a pay week, which is always nice.

OP posts:
Pheebs2021 · 28/09/2021 13:52

God I would hate to be paid fortnightly I get four weekly in my current job and hate it.

MissConductUS · 28/09/2021 14:12

Pheebs, do you mean you get paid every fourth week?

26 pay cycles per year is pretty standard here.

OP posts:
Pheebs2021 · 28/09/2021 14:34

Oh really I get 13 paid cycles a year which I find really confusing. It's quite standard on a set date of the month here I believe going from previous experience and my DH.

Champagneforeveryone · 28/09/2021 14:49

I get paid on the last working day of the month.

DH gets paid every Friday.

DH gets a pension payment every four weeks.

It has taken me months to get my head around it Hmm

pheebs we have been given notice on our cottage so have been pushed into buying (for the first time - eek!) about 14 months earlier than we had planned. We are now one month into three months of obscene frugality in order to maximise our deposit so we are able to buy something larger than a rabbit hutch

It's quite addictive when you have a goal in mind, though a bag of salt and vinegar vegetable crisps have somehow found their way into my shopping bag. I have told myself that as I am working 72 hours over 6 days I deserve a treat Wink

Pheebs2021 · 28/09/2021 15:37

I obviously wouldn't want to corrupt you... but you definitely deserve a little treat! End of the day how many more pence is it than the snack you would eat at that same time?
How exciting your first brought home 😀

DD went to orthodontist then school and is now out with friends. Not sure when her homework is being done but she is assures me it is. I suspect middle of the night and that's why she can't get ready in the mornings. Though she is much more cheerful after seeing friends.

DH had a nap and is now playing piano. His napping has reduced to about 2 hours a day so he seems to be coming out the other side after 4 weeks. I slept all day, drank more and ate some crisps for the salt and the leg cramps went. I then thought I wonder if my runny eyes and two blocked ears are being worsened by my hayfever and took an anti-histamine and the eyes are better.

Tried to call plumber again but no answer again, its very hard to find workmen keen to do work here. And it looks like there are delays of new cookers, I think we may be better with a new one as our bottom oven doesn't work. DH wants to wait until the whole thing goes but there are such delays I am not sure and would rather get it done with the kitchen. DH and I have at least agreed what cooker we want and size.

I just get child benefit now, that is every fourth week, which I find odd as I was always paid monthly and budget monthly but I just view the double months as a bonus and its not much anyway.

IWanderedLonely · 28/09/2021 21:02

My feet ache. I keep thinking about soaking them in a bowl of warm water, but can't be bothered with the faff.
I inscrewed a lock of a cupboard at work today and found boxes of jumble wrapped in newspaer from 2002. Will have fun nosying through it tomorrow. There was also a tin of biscuits Envy and a jar of instant coffee that had welded into 1 giant lump.

mathanxiety · 29/09/2021 02:33

DD3 wants me to go out for a walk with her and I just want to curl up and read. I feel I'm fighting off a cold. Maybe the exercise will do me good.

Screw it. I'll go.

The LL has asked that all the basement storage spaces be emptied by late October as they are waterproofing it, and turning 3/4 of it into a small 'garden flat'. This has given me the kick in the derriere I needed not to finally donate a lot of old dining room chairs, two uncomfortable armchairs, a little exercise trampoline, and an old formica-covered kitchen table to Goodwill, and putting two old bikes out 'free to a good home', as well as getting rid of a good few 850 cardboard boxes. I'll have to take my grill up to the deck and park it under my potting bench for the winter.

Silkiescatz · 29/09/2021 04:34

Hope you managed the walk ok Maths

Today is fridge repair day though we don't have an exact time and it may depend if it needs new parts or not so may or may not be working by end of day. I am sure rabbit will enjoy hopping around the man.

Gingerwarthog · 29/09/2021 06:17

Wartycat curled up on duvet.
Put on heating for the first time since March yesterday so it feels like proper Autumn now.
DD has the cold and sounds like she's been smoking 40 a day as she's so hoarse. Confused

Silkiescatz · 29/09/2021 06:23

I can just see the daylight starting to appear through the trees and birds are starting to sing.

Silkiecat, DH, DD and DS are fast asleep and presumably rabbit too as I cant hear any baby gate rattling.

Hope your DD gets better soon Ginger

Silkiescatz · 29/09/2021 07:15

DS needs new school trousers. DH on hearing this started measuring DS and said to me to order blue school trousers. I pointed out his school trousers aren't blue. DH insisted they were and to only order blue trousers. I looked it up and they are definitely not blue. DH still insists they are. Dd then declared dh incompent at measuring and remeasured him amd gave me a more plausible waist measurement but gave me a size not possible on the length. I checked how you measure and DH has remeasured length though keeps giving sizing in cms, they are sold in inches, DD had measured inside leg from the waist. But eventually I have all the information and can now order more trousers in correct colour and sizing.

Squirrel26 · 29/09/2021 11:09

Shopping for new wellies. Quite tempted by a navy pair with lime green soles.

Champagneforeveryone · 29/09/2021 12:21

Wellies are a minefield squirrel, I remember the angst well Grin

I eventually settled on a pair from Ariat which I can wholly recommend though they don't have lime green soles

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 29/09/2021 15:27

I totally lost you all for a while there. Glad to have found you all. I have no exciting or unexciting news - life really is very dull right now.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 29/09/2021 15:30

@Purplepeoniesdroppingpetals

So both uni age kids are out of the house for the first time in an age - am being boring by taking advantage of the bathroom being both clean and empty of said teens for a long bath with a hot chocolate. DH is feverishly completing an esta application to travel to the states to see my lovely bil and sil (not seen for two years). Question for those in or who’ve been to New England: is fall as pretty as it looks in the pics?
Have to answer this one. Yes it is. I live in one of those New England towns with lots of maple trees (they seem to have the most spectacular colours), white steepled churches, and a central village full of wooden houses from the late 1800s and early 1900s. My favourite times to walk around town are fall when it looks spectacular, and lilac season when it smells spectacular.
Gingerwarthog · 29/09/2021 15:32

Thank you Silkie.
She is in bed with Wartycat and both are snoring gently.

Champagneforeveryone · 29/09/2021 15:53

ChampagneCat's all singing all dancing cat flap needs new batteries again

Apparently singing and dancing is not hugely environmentally friendly Hmm

Silkiescatz · 29/09/2021 17:26

The fridge engineer came and he said we need a new fridge thermostat which he will order but it will be a few days then he will call us and will come at some point again meanwhile no fridge. But at least we live next to the shop.

Silkiescatz · 29/09/2021 17:53

I just had a small packet of cashew nuts which came with the warning may contain nuts. Its a good job they warned me, there were indeed cashew nuts inside.
