Which food trends are you tired of?

Sriracha on everything. Enough already.

I don't understand this trend for putting biscuits on cakes, in brownies and in chocolate. I could understand it a bit more if it's incorporated into the brownie but often it's just stuck on top.

Burgers that require you to dislocate your jaw in the manner of a python, in order to eat them. I don't have a delicate appetite. I like a good sized burger but some are so ridiculously huge and have so many toppings that you practically need a forklift to get it to your mouth.

Grazing plates....

mustlovegin · 13/09/2021 18:16

But it's just gone too far and is another symptom of our performative and shallow age

Indeed

Davygran · 13/09/2021 18:23

@8dpwoah

Well there you go *@Davygran* apparently you can just order chips and die happy Hmm

Have a sugar, butter and flour-free Biscuit @carpedimum

Well, I’ll have the chips in a massive butter-laden bread cake (not a brioche) on a real plate - no slates, tiles or breadboards for me either, and then I’ll be ok, as long as I have a dollop of Sriracha to dip it in. I’ll eat @carpedimum’s for her too so she can eat everyone else’s kale & pomegranate seeds and then we’ll both die happy 😂😂😂

@LowlandLucky

Here in Scotland every god damn place has Haggis bon bons as a starter, bloody awful.
Yes, we noticed that on a recent holiday in Scotland, never seen them on the menu in previous years.
calvados · 13/09/2021 18:35

Wagyu burgers .. yuk , tandoori pizza .. double yuk

calvados · 13/09/2021 18:35

Oh and those brioche burger buns … triple yuk 🤮

user1492450936 · 13/09/2021 18:41

I love a crepe with a drizzle of salted caramel
And salted caramel ice cream.
Both are very Breton' things
Also, French brioche for burgers isn't sweet - brioche for breakfast is a bit sweet. Maybe UK restaurants are using the wrong product

StargazerAli · 13/09/2021 18:43

Avocado. Boring, tasteless and the farming of which is very damaging to environment.

Carpedimum · 13/09/2021 18:43

Lol @Davygran @8dpwoah - you’re welcome to it all and the side of DT2, DT3 aka Alzheimer’s, stroke, HD, every disease & ailment etc. though I’d prefer it if you cover your own health bills rather than bleeding the NHS dry. Seriously, at least look into just seed oils, it’s poison.

Exactly this to all! Chilli everything too.. I love chilli but in the right dishes, eg Mexican.. and don't get me started on overload of garlic...learn to cook people!

Many years ago, we were on an incentive trip with the company I worked for to the South of France. About 40 co workers on the trip. The organisers had us all guessing what the unique feature of the last restaurant we were taken to was. No one guessed. It was in a farmhouse in a beautiful setting in the hills of Provence, and as we walked into the dining room we were hit by the smell of the goat pen that was in the middle of the dining room. It was clean, but even clean goats have a distinctive smell. I have not been able to eat goat products since.

Ddot · 13/09/2021 18:58

Cup cakes 🤢 huge blob of sickly gunk on sponge

DroopyClematis · 13/09/2021 19:00

I'll accept that 'pan fried ' might mean fried in a pan as opposed to deep fried, but what does 'oven baked' mean?
Is it that 'it' was baked in an oven? How ingenious!

Doubleraspberry · 13/09/2021 19:03

Oven-baked is total nonsense!

DroopyClematis · 13/09/2021 19:04

Oh, and I love how restaurants pride themselves on 'locally sourced' ingredients and plop avocados or pineapple on their menus.

toxic44 · 13/09/2021 19:05

Dots and dribbles of sauce round the plate, gratuitous squirts of unidentified gunge to boost plate-fill. It looks messy and very unprofessional.

@smallandimperfectlyformed

Red velvet. I hate that, it just tastes artificial to me. I am vegetarian and glad that vegans now get more options on the menu but a bit fed up of the fact that so many places now only offer a vegan alternative to the meat dish, especially as some of the things are not particularly tasty and remind me of when I first became vegetarian over 25 years ago.
I have been vegetarian for over 30 years, and I agree with you - suddenly there’s usually just one or two vegan dishes, and they are often spicy, which my body objects to. Or if there’s a veggie dish, it will contain goats cheese. Yuk!! ☹️ And the red velvet cake??? I presumed it would taste of something red, berries, beetroot or something, but it’s just been dosed with red colouring. Why??
Fluffmum · 13/09/2021 19:16

Aperol spritz

Rah88 · 13/09/2021 19:18

@nordica

Brownies being served practically raw. Especially any "artisan" type ones.

Maybe need to start selling brownies like steak cooked to order so you can choose to have yours well done if you prefer.

Ha ha ha. Made me howl. There are cafes where I live who would seriously do this (had they thought of it) with not a hint of irony. They would also probably have a massive hipster following because of it too.
thelonghaul · 13/09/2021 19:19

Salted caramel. Ffs
And brioche buns with savoury foods never made sense to me.

mumda · 13/09/2021 19:24

I like a big messy burger on a brioche bun. However I think they're best at home when you control the toasting level. They're crap if not toasted or browned on the grill.

My reason for eating either a steak or burger whilst out is they'll be cooked there and then. Lasagna and curry will be out of a freezer.

I haven't ever found salted caramel that tastes salty. It's annoyingly bland.
And as for complaints about big portions hmm that'll explain why my clothes are tight.
I don't eat dessert out of the house. Because I like my main course and eat most of that.

I don't pies which are faked.

MrsArrison · 13/09/2021 19:24

@Lincslady53

Going for a roast and it comes stacked in a tower, with the yorkshire pud stuck on top like the turret on a castle.
Exactly what I got yesterday. All the beautiful veg at the bottom was sweaty and gross for being stacked. My hand was included for scale, as it was bloody huge, too!

Have you tried the Tony's salted caramel chocolate? That's properly salty. I like my salt and even I find it a bit much!

Way back in about 2006, a girl on my uni course was Slovenian and brought me back some dark chocolate with rock salt from her holidays. Apparently it's a Slovenian thing. And I was like, ew, how totally weird! Little did we all know...

DagenhamRoundhouse · 13/09/2021 19:32

I don't know what Sriracha is. I am a country bumpkin. Last meal out I had was fish and chips.
