Which food trends are you tired of?

Sriracha on everything. Enough already.

I don't understand this trend for putting biscuits on cakes, in brownies and in chocolate. I could understand it a bit more if it's incorporated into the brownie but often it's just stuck on top.

Burgers that require you to dislocate your jaw in the manner of a python, in order to eat them. I don't have a delicate appetite. I like a good sized burger but some are so ridiculously huge and have so many toppings that you practically need a forklift to get it to your mouth.

What food trends don't you understand?

@Carpedimum

Chips with EVERYTHING on most menus. Even in high end places, every menu item has too many carbs & when is the message that sugar, grains & seed oils are poison to humans going to be received by the general population. This food leads to inflammation that is the root of all disease. We need to reconnect our palates without sweet flavours and remove the association that it is a treat. Food that delivers optimum vitamins and minerals for long term health is delicious!

Whole grains are a huge component of the diet of most communities where long healthy life is higher than other places .

Not poison Hmm

IReallyCantThinkOfAnything · 13/09/2021 19:52

Coconut water, just drink water. Smashed avo, they don’t even write the proper word on menus round my way. Balsamic reduction, wtf? And, steaks being served with a giant knife stuck in the wooden block it’s served on.

Oh and ‘emulsion’ on menus, that’s paint isn’t it?!

MazzleDazzle · 13/09/2021 19:53

Avo-fucking-cado

A complete non event.

purplesequins · 13/09/2021 20:01

yes to avocado
I'm allergic to them and the bastards are sometimes just added to previously normal foods and I have to ask as it's not one of the declared allergen.

MarvellousMonsters · 13/09/2021 20:11

Lots for veggies/vegans but no gluten free options.

"Healthy" choices always being low fat and/or artificially sweetened.

I'd like a steak with salad/veg served with full fat Mayo/butter. No low fat shite or 'healthy' baked potato.

Trufflepuffpuff · 13/09/2021 20:11

@Lobelian YES! You've described this perfectly and it's my pet hate on menus too! Grin

Oldraver · 13/09/2021 20:18

Sourdough, when it's toasted it just goes too fucking hard to eat

It seems to be the thing for breakfasts and it ends up inedible

Vynalbob · 13/09/2021 20:22

Halloumi, Trick or treat, ever decreasing portions (eg dairymilk chocolate).

Meat being very young....I'm not anything like a vegetarian but I'd love to see veal, lamb, etc banned and mutton & others brought back.... I'd just like the animals to have a reasonably happy life and live until they're mature..... next year chlorinated chicken pumped up with salt water 🤢🤢🤢(hope not)

Bertiebiscuit · 13/09/2021 20:24

Sweet "potato" chips ugh - these are not potatoes! They've even started polluting houmous with it 🤮
Vegetables in fruit drinks, especially kale and spinach, ugh 🤢
Ditto beetroot in everything, much as I love beetroot in salad and borscht soup I don't want it in cake or hummus 🙄

Bertiebiscuit · 13/09/2021 20:27

Also agree about red velvet cakes and cupcakes - totally tasteless and pointless and I shudder to think what the bright red is - crushed up beetles probably 👀👀😳

sueelleker · 13/09/2021 20:29

@cherish123

Pasta was once on the menu as a side with steak!
I sometimes have plain buttered pasta at home, with steak.
ThatDreamSheep · 13/09/2021 20:34

Every dessert option being made with Nutella, peanut butter or Lotus Biscoff!

DroopyClematis · 13/09/2021 20:38

@DahliaMacNamara

I don't know where the salted caramel hate comes from either. I love the stuff. My only criticism is that sometimes it could do with a touch more salt. And there aren't enough decent proper chewy caramels around. They've gone all soft. I like to give my teeth a challenge.
Some folk don't like the taste of salt. Some folk don't like salt added to caramel. Some folk just don't like the taste of salted caramel.

I am a vegetarian, no problem with others eating meat but I don’t think farmed mutton necessarily has a happier life than lamb. Just longer.
Plunger · 13/09/2021 21:14

Sweet potato fries! Loath them. They are soaky foul items. Also anything with beetroot or broccoli 🥦. Devil's food and cheap.

Devonchills · 13/09/2021 21:17

'plant based'

Not the food, just the term is totally overused.
Like Flora for instance, always sunflower oil, now marketed at plant based.
Everywhere I look it's plant based this, and plant based that.

Doubleraspberry · 13/09/2021 21:20

Nutella is another tedious craze. It's so sweet. I'd love more things to have a proper dark chocolate sauce but it's Nutella everywhere. Full of palm oil too.

janj2301 · 13/09/2021 21:41

Huge poster on my way to work "plant based coffee". Did a double take, apparently it was an advert for "milk"

echt · 13/09/2021 21:54

Chipotle.

msgreen · 13/09/2021 22:14

Anything we imported from the usa ,Mac donalds etc etc
starbucks,all full of sugar and processed rubbish
we are all being sold down the
obesity river .
lets just all eat real food

limitedperiodonly · 13/09/2021 23:06

Kale is like eating thistles but not free.

DreamTheMoors · 13/09/2021 23:07

@Dashdotcom

Stuff being served on boards/slates at restaurants, poor waiting staff have to do that awkward push and slide across the table to try and pick it up.

JUST USE A PLATE.

You mean like breakfast served on a shovel? 🙄

Roxy69 · 13/09/2021 23:15

Cupcakes. Aaargh, all that vile sugar on top of a giant fairy cake. Let them stay in the USA where they don't care about heart attacks.

DreamTheMoors · 13/09/2021 23:40

@Roxy69

Fairy cakes aren’t a thing in the USA, but I can assure you that caring about heart attacks is.
Thank you for your kindness.

HairyAl · 13/09/2021 23:41

@Sleepyquest

Halloumi Salted caramel should have ended a while ago
No, you’re wrong here - H is the best!
