My mum has just been rushed into hospital

She had a bad headache, wanted to be sick and seemed confused/weak. She's not well in general but I've never seen her look so bad. She's been positive with Covid too so came to stay with me so I could keep an eye on her.

I'm fucking terrified. Have to wait for a couple of hours before I can ring the hospital and I'm just numb. My dad is no help. I need to tell my sister but don't want to worry her until I know something.

I don't even know why I'm posting, just need to get it out I think

I know people always say this, but she is in the right place abs sedating her will help overall.

A family member of mine had a bleed on their brain and they were anaesthetised and ventilated to take the pressure off of the rest of the body.

Hope you know more soon.

Will they contact you once they know more? Can you go and be with her?

When my mum was in a&e I was allowed to go and sit with her.

BitterTits · 09/09/2021 21:29

Sorry to read this. I hope it's been dealt with quickly enough.

QuestionableMouse · 09/09/2021 21:38

Not allowed to go through. I'm in isolation for Covid atm which is making things worse!

I'll be glad when they get the scan results back and we get an answer.

Don’t every worry about phoning for an update - it’s your mum. Did they tell you when to call back?

TicTac80 · 09/09/2021 21:57

I hope she’s had a very speedy recovery ❤️‍🩹 also…don’t hesitate to ask the hospital staff to explain things if you’re not understanding what tests/results/treatment plans mean. Xx

unsportyspice · 09/09/2021 21:59

Thinking of you all. Try to stay calm.

QuestionableMouse · 09/09/2021 22:01

The doc has just rang back - they're waiting for the scan results but it sounds bad. She's had seizures and they're talking about taking her to intensive care which scares the shit out of me.

I hope she is scanned soon. I had a suspected stroke and I was in the CT scanner within 30 minutes of arriving. There was a constant stream of people going in and its extremely fast so hopefully they should know by now.

Getting info out of hospital over the phone is never easy. My dh had a brush with death after a accident and all they would tell me over the phone was very basic info.

QueenFreesia2021 · 09/09/2021 22:07

I’m so sorry to hear this.

However ICU means access to 1:1 nursing and if she needs this then it’s the best place for her to be. Some ICU’s have a direct line to the patients bed too which can help relatives. (Not sure if this is common but was the case for DD)

OP do you have Covid or are you waiting for a test?

QueenFreesia2021 · 09/09/2021 22:07

I know it’s so scary - but do not be surprised if they talk about ventilation

PalacesOfMontezuma · 09/09/2021 22:09

Sending love Flowers

HelloDaisy · 09/09/2021 22:10

Sorry to hear you are going through this. It’s a scary enough time without Covid and isolation added to the mix.

Can you find things to do to try to ease your mind while you wait for news, easier said than done I know.

Maybe wait a while and then have a cup of tea before ringing back for an update. Never worry about ringing as it is your mum and you need to know. However it does sound as though they have kept you in the loop so far.

Sending love and strength to you x

Smackthepony · 09/09/2021 22:26

Oh I’m sorry to read this OP. Thinking how I would feel if it was my Mum. I would be worried sick. Sending you love and strength 💐

Mummapenguin20 · 09/09/2021 22:29

QuestionableMouse · 09/09/2021 22:36

We all tested positive at the weekend.

I think she may already be intubated.

Thank you all for the support. I really do appreciate it ❤️
