My mum has just been rushed into hospital

She had a bad headache, wanted to be sick and seemed confused/weak. She's not well in general but I've never seen her look so bad. She's been positive with Covid too so came to stay with me so I could keep an eye on her.

I'm fucking terrified. Have to wait for a couple of hours before I can ring the hospital and I'm just numb. My dad is no help. I need to tell my sister but don't want to worry her until I know something.

I don't even know why I'm posting, just need to get it out I think

I got really upset when they fitted a trachy in my dp. The surgeon told me it feels like a backward step but it's more sideways. They would prefer not to but it gives them a lot more control over the sedation, he said. So they can take more time to reduce it. It is safer. I remember the days seemed endless but also whizzed by. Like being in a really weird bubble too.

I really feel for you. They are being so careful with your dear mum. The brain needs lots of rest. There is still hope for all sorts of better outcomes. And yes, try to take good care of yourself if you can. Or let others. I got lots of meals delivered to my doorstep- it was so kind.

Try to keep yourself distracted- get out for the afternoon if you can for a change of scenery and some fresh air. Fingers crossed something changes in the next couple of days, you won't be waiting forever x

QuestionableMouse · 23/09/2021 15:21

She's been awake a bit today and has been responding to the nurses and OT which is making me feel a lot better. She's still quite poorly but things seem to be going in the right direction!

Thank you 💜💜💜

I got to see her for a few minutes today! We couldn't go into her room but got to see her through the window.

She managed to breathe on her own for 16 hours yesterday and they're going to try for 20 today!

Honestly so happy right now 😁

Oh blimey! 16 hours is a massive step. I'm so pleased. Please remember to continue to look after yourself as much as possible. It can be quite rough as the adrenaline leaves your system in my experience

labazslovesliving · 25/09/2021 16:23

as they are so understaffed and busy it takes ages sometimes to get an answer from hospitals I hope your mum is ok and like others have said do practical things like pack a bag and plan with your sister what to do best wishes to you all

Alternista · 25/09/2021 20:44
