Super king size beds

SwimmingUnderwater · 30/08/2021 21:10

about to buy one.. I think. However we have a small bedroom really and I wonder if it’s stupid. The expense of buying a new duvet , new bed linen , new mattress... is it just self indulgent?

Do it Grin

ThatsNotMyReindeer · 30/08/2021 21:12

Do it. I promise you won't regret it!

Notashandyta · 30/08/2021 21:13

Me and my hubby used to struggle sleeping in the same bed, even a king size. I am a massive sprawler and take up loads of the bed. Also hate any smells or warmth near me in the night (he's so lucky isn't he Grin)

Super king was a game changer tbh. Best sleep ever.

If either of you are like this or have similar issues, go for it! If not, then I seems a silly idea... and maybe a nice new comfy king size bed and mattress would be a better idea in a small room

How easy is it to get super king bedding? That would be my worry.

ManxRhyme · 30/08/2021 21:13

Do it, I rationalised ours by telling DH we spend (ideally) 8 hours in bed and max 10 mins walking around the room. And superking duvet means no more duvet wars. We love it so much we couldn't wait to get back from holiday because we missed our bed!

Tataru · 30/08/2021 21:14

Love ours! Super king bedding is pretty mainstream too. We've never had a problem getting any.

You won't regret it!

IWantT0BreakFree · 30/08/2021 21:16

DH and I agreed on a king size bed and chose one (pre-kids). He was in charge of ordering. He decided at the last moment to get the super king version and I was bloody fuming when it turned up. It's massive and our room isn't really big enough for it. But I've had to eat a bunch of humble pie since because it's turned out to be one of my favourite things Grin It's so comfy and there's just so much room, even with the kids co-sleeping at various points over the years it never feels like a squeeze.

cloverleafy · 30/08/2021 21:16

If you can make it fit, do it.

BendingSpoons · 30/08/2021 21:18

We have a super king with two single duvets. Heaven! Only problem is whenever we go on holiday it is not as good!

WeAllHaveWings · 30/08/2021 21:18

You will be left with barely any floor space but it is sooooo worth it.

Next time I'm getting an ottoman one to make the most of the storage underneath.

Ohdeariedear · 30/08/2021 21:23

We have super king bedding on a king sized bed. It’s easy enough to get self coloured super king bedding but I’ve found that fewer patterned options go up super king and they can be quite expensive!

SwimmingUnderwater · 30/08/2021 21:23

Wow! This is so encouraging! oH has chronic insomnia and fishers all night. It’s driving me uo the walk and he’s constantly exhausted

I should really spellcheck. Fidgets

we have one. Bought it because the bloody cats were taking up so much room. (Spoiler alert- no matter how big the bed is the cats will always be bang smack in the middle)

We have no problems at all getting bedding. The Range does superking as a standard and I buy alot from Amazon.

SimonJT · 30/08/2021 21:24

We have one, its great, my husband likes it because “its like you’re not even there”!

Hugoslavia · 30/08/2021 21:25

As long as you can get around the bed each side I would do it. 12 years ago I bought a decent sprung superking memory foam topped mattress in the sale. My god it is amazing. The only downside is going away. No hotel can live up to my amazing mattress. The plus side is that at home every night is a hotel bed sort of night.

Gardenwalldilema · 30/08/2021 21:25

It's very easy to get the fitted sheets, and we have a double duvet each, so not prohibitively expensive.
Go for it.

Level75 · 30/08/2021 21:26

We have a super king and the only new bedding we needed was sheets. A king size duvet works absolutely fine (although you may want 2 singles if you have a fidgeter). A king feels small to me now.

silkience · 30/08/2021 21:27

We have one. Our bedroom Is not big either but for me a good sleep is more important than aesthetics! Got it originally as always ended up with two kids in bed with us, would never be without it now. Best sleep ever! It's easy to get bedding, even Argos do the fitted sheets now

purplesequins · 30/08/2021 21:29

go for it!

but why would you need more bedding (apart from matress and sheets) surely you can keep you existing pillows and duvet?

maybe get a second double duvet if you already have spare double covers?

sociallydistained · 30/08/2021 21:29

Me and DP are moving in together soon having found out I’m pregnant. My one very important request is that we get a super king bed. I struggle to sleep next to him the few times a week we’re asleep together so to do this full time a SK is a MUST! We’ve been looking. Do tell us what you go for and how you find it.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 30/08/2021 21:30

I’ve got several super king duvet sets and the most recent was from Dunelm and inexpensive. None of mine are one colour. I’ve got one with grey sheep on a white background, a white with coloured dots, an Orla Kiiely type one and a stripe. Oh and a Christmas one.

Hugoslavia · 30/08/2021 21:30

@3GreenPullups

That's not strictly true. Our cat pins my husband to the side of his bed, allowing him around 6 inches of mattress space. Which means that I actually get the equivalent of a super super king sized bed! It's like having a whole king sized bed all to myself!

3GreenPullups · 30/08/2021 21:31

I had a bit of a Christmas hygge moment a few years back and bought SK with reindeer and pinecones on it. I'd like to say it is nicer than it sounds. But it isn't.

More recently have bought some pale blue french toile type things. I am not sure any of our bedding is one colour only.
