My 17yr old DS is at Reading and I am really looking forward to seeing his stinky self after what I am sure has been one of the best weekends ever.

We have been watching some of it on the tv and the atmosphere has looked brilliant.

I am so happy they got to go this year and make some amazing memories.

No, mine came back after breaking her wrist in a mosh pit on Friday night. Says she's over festivals.

Timetobuckup · 30/08/2021 11:53

Oh shite! That sounds grim. I hope she is not in too much pain.

17 yo DS was picked up this morning from Reading. He absolutely loved it. First festival and he’s ready to go again Grin. Said everyone they encountered was lovely and he’s hoarse from singing. I’m so pleased for him and his friends Smile
@Timetobuckup I hope your DS had fun. @chocolatesaltyballs22 poor DD, what bad luck. Hope she’s ok. Flowers

That is lovely to hear @AvonCallingBarksdale even watching it on tv made me feel really emotional.

Mine got back early this morning ill and coughing. PCR booked for this afternoon. Hmm

Icecreamsprinkles · 30/08/2021 12:08

Awaiting one from Reading and one from Leeds (we like to spread the covid risk in this house!) Have enjoyed the quiet tidy house this weekend so not in a hurry for them both to walk in the door later but hopefully they have had a good time. Sorry to hear about your DD @chocolatesaltyballs22

Hen2018 · 30/08/2021 12:09

My son’s colleague went to one, passed Covid to all her workmates and work had to shut for 10 days and lost £30,000.

My son then brought Covid home with him and I spent 10 days hoping my younger son (ASD and kidney problems) didn’t catch it.

So selfish.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 30/08/2021 12:10

@Timetobuckup absolutely! This age group have had a hard couple of years, just great for them to do some normal rite of passage stuff Smile
@Pimpernella fingers crossed, it’s the effects of no sleep, crap food 🤞🏻

MadMadMadamMim · 30/08/2021 12:16

OMG the thought of this terrifies me! I've got a 16 yo DS and the thought of him off to festivals next year makes me anxious as hell.

How do you sleep? I'd be imagining all sorts of terrors (mostly involving copious amounts of drink and drugs).

Icecreamsprinkles · 30/08/2021 12:18

@Hen2018 wow that is terrible both of mine are fully vaccinated and I think festivals have tried to do the best they can with vaccination pass or covid test needed.
To be honest it’s difficult finding that balance between risk and returning the economy to normal especially for the youth who have had such a tough time lately

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 30/08/2021 12:20

Thanks, she's ok... Hope all your kids enjoyed it. Think mine's too much of a princess for camping at festivals 😂

OverByYer · 30/08/2021 12:20

Waiting for one to come back from Reading and one from CreamFields. So glad for them bay they’ve had some normality , it’s been a hard year or so for teenagers

SpicyJalfrezi · 30/08/2021 12:21

It’s not selfish at all

Is there any break from misery and woe?

AvonCallingBarksdale · 30/08/2021 12:24

@MadMadMadamMim Grin. I think if helped that I used to go to festivals when I was younger, so know what the score is. The vast majority of people there will be like your own child - ie there to have fun. We had the whole drink and drugs chat beforehand too.

Atalune · 30/08/2021 12:25

It’s not selfish at all!

Friends kids went to board masters and has the best time! I was happy and a bit jel!

Northumberlandlass · 30/08/2021 12:27

Yes, my DS coming back from Leeds later. I’m going to collect him & a couple of mates from Green Bus drop 😷

skippy67 · 30/08/2021 12:28

@SpicyJalfrezi, I agree with you. Dd has 3 festivals coming up, and went to a club the day they opened up. I was glad for her. She's had a crap 17 months, during which time her mental health took a dive due to lockdown. I'm delighted she's able to go out and enjoy herself again.

Teesdale2622 · 30/08/2021 12:29

Waiting for dd to arrive home from reading, she sounds exhausted but has had a brilliant time.

We have watched on TV and managed to see her and friends, that was nice Smile

TheCarrs · 30/08/2021 12:30

Indeed. Nothing selfish about it at all.

Booknooks · 30/08/2021 12:30

@Pimpernella

I expect a lot will be the same if boardmasters is anything to go by!

That said, please teens have finally be able to experience this sort of thing, I started going to Reading in sixth form and we carried on through uni as a reunion of sorts. Can't think of anything worse now I'm older mind :D

PaulGallico · 30/08/2021 12:32

@Hen2018 - it's not selfish. Sorry you know people who caught covid and passed it on to others but that can happen at football, cricket, on the train, on the bus...why try to demonise people attending festivals.

beigebrownblue · 30/08/2021 12:33

I've all this to come, anyone want to offer a few sentences as to what minimum kit might look like?

I'm trying to anticipate the expense, aside from the ticket that is, though Glastonbury you can volunteer for and get free ticket eh.

itsgettingwierd · 30/08/2021 12:33

Glad she's ok.

I love camping. Adore the outdoor holiday experience it brings and curling up under blankets when it's cooler.

Loved and worked abroad in many a questionable house!

But even I would be too much of a princess to camp on top of people in a muddy field with portaloos and crap food 🤣🤣 it just never appealed to me!

CremeEggThief · 30/08/2021 12:34

I'm hoping DS is alive after Leeds! Haven't heard from him since last night. As he's nearly 19, I could only advise him to stick with his group and not to go off heavy drinking/ taking Class As with random new friends, as he sometimes does in our home town, the muppet!🙄

Frazzled2207 · 30/08/2021 12:38

I can’t think of many things worse and I think it’s a valid concern about covid, not just the kids that went but the local community- there was a medium sized festivals just down the road from where we live this weekend.

But am happy for them if the kids had a good time after a rubbish year
