My 17yr old DS is at Reading and I am really looking forward to seeing his stinky self after what I am sure has been one of the best weekends ever.

We have been watching some of it on the tv and the atmosphere has looked brilliant.

I am so happy they got to go this year and make some amazing memories.

Yes let’s not turn this into a young people bashing thread. It’s not selfish.

Timetobuckup · 30/08/2021 12:40

@beigebrownblue if my ds is anything to go by then a cheap tent, air mattress and sleeping bag and a bag full of snacks and some booze of course .
He did take a camping chair and some baby wipes for some comfort.

I am just so excited for him and all his friends.

Absolutely not selfish and so sick of people piping up every time someone does something that they don't like.

We’re on our way back from Victorious. Had an amazing weekend, and I’m 34. It’s a much more civilised festival though, and we stayed at my sisters so festival lite! I still feel like crap now though!

Booknooks · 30/08/2021 12:43

@beigebrownblue

I've all this to come, anyone want to offer a few sentences as to what minimum kit might look like?

I'm trying to anticipate the expense, aside from the ticket that is, though Glastonbury you can volunteer for and get free ticket eh.

A cheap tent, most of them don't make their way home and/or get wrecked- most festivals have a recycling scheme for them now which is good. My sleeping bag lasted nearly a decade though, so an okay one of those, Other than that nothing in particular- dry shampoo, wipes, hand gel, loo roll as it seemed to always run out, money for overpriced food and drinks as inevitably the drink brought at the supermarket beforehand won't last as long as you plan :D
PaulGallico · 30/08/2021 12:45

@beigebrownblue - get a big enough tent - my 6ft DS struggled in a 'two man' tent - needs to take them and their festival gear.

Timetobuckup · 30/08/2021 12:45

@TheTempest Victorious looked like it had a great line up but having to pay for a hotel on top of the ticket price seems a lot. We looked into going next year and the campsite is miles away from the festival which is a shame.
I need a sister to move to Portsmouth!

Mine got back from CreamFields at 1am this morning.
Surprisingly, she surfaced quite early too.
Had a great time and is now looking forward to Parklife.

fourquenelles · 30/08/2021 12:53

I live 3 minutes as the crow flies from the Reading festival arena and have enjoy ed a weekend of "doof doof doof" in my back garden! The 3am Saturday chanting was interesting and I was glad not to be camping out! All the young people I met in the local shops and walking down the roads seemed absolutely lovely and a credit to their generation. I used to work on the beer tents and I know that prior to Covid the "Festival cold" was a common souvenir people brought back with them.

ShaunaTheSheep · 30/08/2021 13:05

One of mine arrived home this morning. Has eaten and gone to bed. Washing machine is doing a pre-wash and full wash, and the whites are soaking in vanish. White sock are orange with Reading dust!

The other was at Leeds, he’s been posting on snapchat according to DD, so assume alive. He’s studying in Leeds so will do his own laundry.

For those bashing the young people, enough already. I travelled on the tube to go shopping, to dinner and to the theatre yesterday, and probably spent just as much time in close proximity of strangers. Hardly anyone wearing masks despite it being required.

I'm up the road.

There's been a lot of criticism this year of it. I didn't go so don't know if it's true and have enjoyed it when I've gone before. It's very family friendly too.

I can travel in daily as it's 15 minutes on the train! Saw lots of people I presume were headed there as I was walking into town the other day. It's quite a civilised festival!

Timetobuckup · 30/08/2021 16:45

Well he has made it back and my God he stinks Grin

Planning his return next year already.

If the others have had half a good as time as him then they will have done well. I am so happy for them all.

Eldest got back from creamfields yesterday, he was working there though still got to enjoy it too.

Crocky · 30/08/2021 16:52

I picked mine and a couple of her friends up from the coach station. Dropped off the friends and home. She’s showered, eaten and is asleep. She absolutely loved it and said the food was expensive but lovely 😮😃

That’s a lovely post thank you!

Mine went and had a great time - tired but so happy to see so many great bands and be a teen again!

Crocky · 30/08/2021 17:00

@MadMadMadamMim my dd is 17 and just heading into her second year in college. A year ago I couldn’t have imagined her doing this but she has done so much growing up in the last year. It’s been wonderful to watch. She did all the organising herself with her friends. I was just roped into the short journey to collect them from the coach.

Teenagers2grownups0 · 30/08/2021 17:02

DS got back from Reading yesterday. Didn’t smell too bad but then him and his friends stayed in a hotel so didn’t do the camping.

At 17 there was no drinking (as they couldn’t rather than didn’t want to), although DS said a pint was £10!!! He did say that there were loads of drugs and people on drugs so I think it was a big eye opener.

He is achey and tired and we had already decided to make him do daily LFTs as the risks of catching it from so many people squeezed together is just so high. They really have done nothing for 18mths though so I was very happy to see him back, happy but safe.

ladygracie · 30/08/2021 17:05

My 17 year old son is home from Reading. He had an awesome time, smelt absolutely disgusting and even recorded Liam Gallagher for me because he knew I wanted him to. 😂😂 I’m so happy he got to go.

OverByYer · 30/08/2021 17:10

Mine are both home. Showered and sleeping while I sort the washing out.

CremeEggThief · 30/08/2021 17:13

I have to say I was panicking as DS said they were being picked up at 11 and we live about a 90 minute drive tops, and then there was no word from him. But he eventually arrived just over an hour ago. Phew! He said it took hours to get out. He is in the shower now.

Justbetweenus · 30/08/2021 17:14

16 year old DS hone from Reading. Ate, bathed (should have seen the ring round the bath 😂), crashed out. He’s coughing and hoarse so will test tomorrow. But he had a great time with his mates, and I hope it starts a lifelong love of live music. So pleased they got to go.

ladygracie · 30/08/2021 17:34

This is such a lovely thread.

CrumbsThatsQuick · 30/08/2021 17:40

My first time festivaler came back last night, is asleep, woke up for a bath and some lunch and went back to bed. Hoarse from singing, brilliant time. 《One of her friends has already tested positive this morning Bear》

Timetobuckup · 30/08/2021 17:47

Work tomorrow is going to be a bit of a reality check for him I think.

He has had such a great time and is going to be going on about this for months .

Fab thread Smile

We are just back from Victorious today. We did camp, we were a bit worried about how far the festival was from the campsite but the shuttle buses were great and had a brilliant atmosphere. Lots of singing/chatting amongst everyone, it added to the whole experience.
