Anyone else waiting for their teen to get back from a festival today ?

My 17yr old DS is at Reading and I am really looking forward to seeing his stinky self after what I am sure has been one of the best weekends ever.

We have been watching some of it on the tv and the atmosphere has looked brilliant.

I am so happy they got to go this year and make some amazing memories.

@RhubarbCustardy

Advice for those going next year-dont bother taking food and drink. It wasn't allowed to be taken in this year and exorbitant charges for it inside. Piss takers.
I think you mean in the arena? Definitely allowed in the camping areas.
Mydogisagentleman · 31/08/2021 07:01

DD got home yesterday from Reading, she is 20 and said she felt geriatric.
She had the longest shower of her life I think, ate her dinner, showed us some videos and went to bed by 8.00
I imagine we will see her at some point this afternoon

Love this. So pleased that all the teens are having fun again.

Mine still hasn’t showered😂 and i put clean sheets on her bed. She was so tired.

Timetobuckup · 31/08/2021 07:59

@MrsDThomas you may have to change those sheets again Grin

Mine has gone off to work this morning definitely wishing he was back at Reading.

Picked up a couple of friend's teens from just outside yesterday, they had a brilliant time but fell on glasses of water and bananas like manna. Lovely to see they had such a good time.

User135644 · 31/08/2021 08:11

@Hen2018

My son’s colleague went to one, passed Covid to all her workmates and work had to shut for 10 days and lost £30,000.

My son then brought Covid home with him and I spent 10 days hoping my younger son (ASD and kidney problems) didn’t catch it.

So selfish.

These bloody festivals are super spreader events. Should have been restricted to one day at least.
Effic · 31/08/2021 08:21

Mine came home knackered but having had “the best time.” Took a 30 min shower and begged me to cook “anything with lots of vegetables.”
So glad that they are able to get back to some sort of normal. They missed out on their post A level first non-parent holiday due to bloody red/amber/green fiasco. This should be one of the best times in their lives.

MrsDThomas · 31/08/2021 08:29

Oh 100% today!

I did the same, thought it would be nice to have lovely clean sheets waiting for DS's return...

What a daft thing to do, a friend came back with him and whilst we waited for him to be collected, both boys went up to DS's room. Parents arrived and found both grubby boys snoring on my lovely clean sheets!! EnvyGrinGrin

It was definitely allowed into the camping fields, with no restrictions on quantity. Just no glass so spirits etc had to be decanted.

You just couldn't take it into the arena. Though apparently you weren't searched and many did.

Dd and her friends did pre-drinks at the tent bd carb loaded there too!

Apparently the coop tent wasn't badly priced, similar to in the normal shops.

Timetobuckup · 31/08/2021 09:26

@Abraxan my ds had a similar experience, he was expecting to spend a lot more than he actually did. They took snacks and booze with them and then mostly used the pop up co-op .
Pleasantly surprised.

He did come home with a selection of bandanas and a bucket hat that he will probably never wear unless at a festival but as pointless festival clothing goes that is very tame.

Apparently DS survived on curly fries and the stash that he took with him - primarily cereal bars and yazoos ShockGrin

The fun fair seemed extortionately priced! He said it was something like £10 for two people for one ride!!

Timetobuckup · 31/08/2021 09:31

That was the only thing my ds moaned about . He said it was £10 for a ride that lasted less than a minute.

@User135644 how would restricting it to one day help 🤷🏼‍♀️. If they’ve all mixed then one day is no diff from 3 or 4!

It'll still spread but if thousands of people are there from Friday to Monday you'll get plenty there who have Covid with symptoms by the Sunday-Monday and it's more people infected and just the accumulative effect of more and more contacts.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 31/08/2021 10:49

@User135644 having travelled on the tube and been to a packed theatre in London recently my prime worry isn’t an outdoor festival tbf. But a load of teenagers are easier to vilify than adults I guess 🤷‍♀️

Timetobuckup · 31/08/2021 10:56

As schools and colleges are going back in the next few days with no requirement for face coverings I think an outdoor festival is the least of the issues.

I know that a thread goes off in its own direction but it was so nice to hear about teens having a great time, even if it was only for a short while.

My DDs 6th form has just emailed requiring all pupils who went to reading to have a d present the results of a PCR test before they are allowed back on Thursday.
Half the 6th form went and there have been 5 known cases so I see why the school are doing this but unless the kids lie and claim they gave symptoms when they don't then they will have to pay privately.
No one is sure the school is allowed to do it but no one making a fuss. As the letter pointed out it's a huge school and a lot of younger children would be out at risk.

Timetobuckup · 31/08/2021 11:10

@strongcore you don't have to say you have symptoms. You can just say you have been to an event that has had positive cases. With 107000 people attending there will definitely be cases.

Interesting. Thank you. Most of the moaning on the group chat was around logistics so this makes sense. The kids are pretty pragmatic - even the ones who had a really early start as the only test slot they could get was 8.00am! I'm pleased the school is doing it. DS didn't go as he didn't manage to get a ticket but lots of his friends did and Im CEV so he's avoiding them until they've had their test.

Timetobuckup · 31/08/2021 11:23

@strongcore I only know because I ordered one for my ds this morning to come in the post. He has no symptoms but I don't trust lateral flows, and as much as I am absolutely delighted he has been able to have the 'best weekend ever' I also want him to be safe and not spread covid .

My 17 year old got home from Reading at 3am yesterday and went in to work 9 hours later... must say I'm impressed at her stamina!

I was very relieved to have her home and so happy that she got to experience it, albeit a year late.

I can't wait for my DS to get to festival age! I don't about 3/4 years of going to loads of different ones. Genuinely some of the best weekends I've ever had!
