The best vacuum cleaner in the world is...

... not my 15 year old Dyson with bits breaking off of it and holes in the tube. With what, o wise Mumsnetters, should I replace it?

Are Dyson still any good?
Are battery ones now as effective as plug-in vacuums?
We have hard floors plus a couple of rugs/sofa. No pets, just 2 primary aged DC who like Lego.

Eufy. I love it. Switch it on and put your feet up.

We also have a Shark which we use for a quick vacuum upstairs (and on the actual stairs of course) because some of the bedrooms have too many obstacles for the Eufy to navigate.

My cordless shark was good until the plastic screws holding it together gradually snapped off and despite two e mails they have never got back to me so crap customer service.

When people say Hetty /Henry I am always quite surprised! Yes they're reliable but they don't actually clean carpet very well, just suck up bits effectively. And they're a bugger to store.
Dyson are excellent in that the guarantee is 5 years and they will send you as many parts as you need in that time plus fix for free. Recently bought a new one and I realised that the old one was still slightly in guarantee (for two weeks) I wanted to still use it upstairs and it needed a part, I rang them and they told me to pack it up and they'd collect it. They sent it back three days later fully refurbished!

Henry with the boost button. I have one at work without the boost and he just spreads the crumbs around but the one at home with the boost button has eaten many a sock before I could rescue it 😃

What I like about Henry is his long lead. I can plug it own downstairs and so all of downstairs, up the stairs and half of my bedroom without relocating the plug.

On “Shop Well for Less” last week, they revised cordless cleaners and the Shark came out top.Buy Me Once have the Pure Loop, which looks sturdy -and repairable.

I love my Shark. I have heard the cordless ones aren’t as good but I got a plug in one and it’s great.
I’ve been through two Mieles in three years. They just to don’t cut it for me

What else do you want a hoover to do exactly??

I 💗 Henry. He's fabulous, the only gripe I have is I'd live him to be cordless, but his cord is long and so no real problem.

@stayawayfromthrecclescakes I've had a shark corded for the last 4.5 years and the motor burnt out on it. They sent me brand new replacement of an updated model absolutely free, as it fell withing the 5 year warranty. I suggest you give the helpline a call rather than sending emails. In the time I had it I have had a few replacement parts from shark, all been sent free and fast
Op I can't recommend stark enough, good suction and good warranty.

Sebo with bags. Got fed up with the bagless vacuums, had both Dyson and Vax. Disliked constantly emptying them as they never seemed to hold much and washing the filters.

Carpet in bedroom actually looks like it's got pile when I use the Sebo as it really sucks well and copes excellently with picking up hairy ginger fur clumps from cat.

Not a Dyson. Contrary to their claims in the ads, ours loses suction all the time. I would never have another.

Another vote for Sebo, for a corded vacuum. I do have a cordless Dyson too, which I use most of the time, but I get the Sebo out every few weeks for a thorough, deep down clean.

For 90% of the house a Roomba - does most of the job with a press of a button, just doesn't do corners, skirting and the nozzle bits. We make do with one of them and a cordless dyson.

And I have to counter the Henry suggestion, I used my henry before using my new shark and couldn't believe the amount of shite that the shark got up and the Henry had missed.

Henry is bloody awful. Weighs a ton, smashes into door frames/shins and doesn’t actually suck anything up. And looks at you with his smug little smile the whole time Hmm

I had a Miele way back, which was great.

Henry is a cunt and his metal hose thing continuously disconnects, and his wire is a mess, and he weighs a tonne.
