Hospital food pics!

Anyone in hospital/been in hospital recently and has pictures of their meals? Let's compare!

Here's the roast dinner I was given when I was having DD last month. I couldn't cut the slices of beef with a knife and fork because I was breastfeeding and only had one arm free so I ate with my left hand Blush

And of course, the obligatory tea and toast.

Is this a rant or what?

I don't understand.

NannyR · 22/08/2021 20:38

My poor mum was in hospital earlier this year and the food was absolutely appalling. She used to send photos on the family WhatsApp group so we could try to guess what the food actually was. What made it worse was that we couldn't visit due to covid and we weren't allowed to drop off fresh food, only wrapped stuff that didn't need refrigerating.

I have a pic of the soup my daughter got a few years ago will see if I csn find it
Yours looks pretty good

Were you expecting the ivy?

You can get someone to bring your own food in you know.

ActonSquirrel · 22/08/2021 20:41

Covid aside of course.

dryasaboner · 22/08/2021 20:42

It's free 🤷🏼‍♀️

What’s the point of this? Can’t tell whether you’re complaining or not?
Looks ok. Anyone expecting haute cuisine in hospital is going to be disappointed

HasaDigaEebowai · 22/08/2021 20:43

Your free food looks fine to me

HannaHat · 22/08/2021 20:44

I last stayed in hospital a few years ago and the food was lovely, fresh soup and sandwiches for lunch and nice dinners. I was very impressed.

dudsville · 22/08/2021 20:44

That looks nice and comforting op! How did you manage the beef one-handed?

Findahouse21 · 22/08/2021 20:44

I didn't get anything after dd2's birth. Was bloody ravenous and they discharged us at 2am so only place open was mcd drive thru

MrsSkylerWhite · 22/08/2021 20:45

Ah, just seen the update. I misunderstood your post, apologies.

Don’t have pictures but my husband was in Royal Preston for weeks a few years ago and said the food was generally very good (and he’s a fusspot). They made everything in-house. Said the soups in particular were lovely.

We had lentil soup for lunch and great big salads too, if you ordered a salad they often gave you soup as well Grin

I had to stay in hospital for three weeks leading up to my daughters birth. This gave me plenty of time to try different things off the menu - some of which was really quite nice and I was pleasantly surprised. I actually miss the macaroni cheese. Grin

LubaLuca · 22/08/2021 20:46

That tea and toast looks decent. You get to put your own butter on, and put your own milk in!

I was always given dishwater tea and soggy, thickly margarined toast post-birth - I still demolished it, but would have cried with joy if someone had given me little pats of butter and UHT milk pots.

I rolled up the slices and took big bites! Gravy everywhere lol

I'd be interested to see what vegetarians are offered

Katieandthekids · 22/08/2021 20:47

Tea and toast after birth. Hands down best meal you will ever have in your life. I then had a jacket potato with cheese and beans a few hours later and it was also great haha. Novelty of hospital food wore off after 5 days or so but yeh that doesn't look too bad OP well done for eating with one hand it's good practise for BF life... My hubby would spoon feed me while I tandem fed my twins Grin that is love ❤️

NigellaSeed · 22/08/2021 20:48

I opened this thread to see some lighthearted hospital food pics. I think OP started it for that reason. But alas...

My dad had an nhs op but in a private hospital and got 3 courses! He liked it so much he asked to stay an extra 24 hours and they met him!

The menu in Preston catered for pretty much everyone, it’s a really diverse area.

LubaLuca · 22/08/2021 20:49

I was given some nice crackers and cheese too, and jacket potatoes with a choice of filling. The maternity unit I had all of mine in had a small canteen set-up on the ward, so when you could you went along and chose from a selection in a hot counter or from sandwiches etc in a fridge. It was an incentive to get out of bed and moving about I think Smile

IWantT0BreakFree · 22/08/2021 20:49

God aren’t some people just spoiling for a fight. It’s pretty clear if you actually read the OP that it’s just a thread started out of idle curiosity to see what other people have been given in hospital. There’s nothing critical in the OP whatsoever.

It’s a while since I’ve been an in patient so no photos but when I was last in hospital the food was not bad! I remember after I had DD trying to breastfeed and eat at the same time too. I had a c section in the middle of the night so was still pretty much incapacitated by lunchtime and DH was feeding me mouthfuls of veg bake whilst I tried to breastfeed the world’s hungriest baby Grin Nice memories actually. And of course the tea and toast in recovery was the stuff of legend.

BonnyandPoppy · 22/08/2021 20:50

Mine was really nice when I was in last October. Was roast chicken and jelly and ice cream Smile
