I'm off to town today to check a dormant account.

I've had a letter from Santander to say I have q dormant Instant Saver account so I am heading into town to find out how much is in there.

Anyone want to help guess?

For background, I opened the account over 15 years ago and at that time was earning about £28k.

I drove a new car and saved up enough to travel the world, but what is left in this forgotten account.

Did I stash a cheeky grand. Or £100 to open it. Or is it empty or maybe containing £4.36.

I'm quite excited.

What do you all think?

BIWI · 21/08/2021 20:24

Why don't people RTFT?!

MrsFin · 21/08/2021 20:24

There was > £4000 in my old and dormant Halifax account.

ElGuardiandenoche · 21/08/2021 20:33

@MrsFin I wish that there was £4000 in my current live Halifax account 😆

cassie2and2 · 21/08/2021 21:00

BIWI · 21/08/2021 21:04

@cassie2and2 have you bothered to read the thread?

If not, why not?

cassie2and2 · 21/08/2021 21:22

well yes i have and did exactly the same thing in Barclays 10 days ago,
I've also had the account aprox 15 years and that was what I had in mine, started off as a deposit of £100 a free £20.00 for opening the account and the rest was interest over 15 years, wondered if itwasgood whileitlasted had done the same, whats the problem BIWI

Monkeytapper · 21/08/2021 21:37

@cassie2and2 because OP has already said how much was in the account ages ago.

Ddot · 21/08/2021 21:54

Go get your hair done

BIWI · 21/08/2021 21:56

What's the problem?

Because you were clearly giving a guess as to what was in the account well after Itwasgoodwhileitlasted had posted about it!

Ddot · 21/08/2021 22:02

Just remembered I had ten grand in, just before I bought a flat. Interest was high at the time. Cleaned out account and never thought of it. Bank contacted me saying I had interest from the time money had been in. It was a couple of hundred, I was so happy because I was on the bones of my arse. Nice init OP enjoy that free money (sort of free)

cassie2and2 · 21/08/2021 22:39

Why not? It's hugely arrogant to think that you only need to read a few posts before you post your own 'words of wisdom'
Ddot · 21/08/2021 23:11

Oh shut up

Almost as arrogant as self appointing oneself as Official Thread Police

@Killahangilion

BIWI · 22/08/2021 07:08

I have a badge and everything.

CostaBlancaChica · 22/08/2021 08:33

Just read the whole thread. There are some seriously grumpy people on it!! 😂 Enjoy OP. I wish I could uncover some forgotten money somewhere!!

pbvincent · 22/08/2021 12:03

Overdrawn.
Santander will have awarded you a Platinum account some years ago,
and since then the charges have really racked up.

Ddot · 22/08/2021 14:40

I've got one for you.
If you moved and paid a penalty for ending your mortgage early, banks were charging the new penalty and not the one that was on your contract at the time you took out your mortgage. I got £149 back not to be sniffed at

Ddot · 22/08/2021 14:43

I claimed back my ppe off my Debenhams card too

Zatapec · 26/08/2021 22:32

Ohh exciting ☺️ my guess is £681.
Good luck 🤞😃
