I'm off to town today to check a dormant account.

I've had a letter from Santander to say I have q dormant Instant Saver account so I am heading into town to find out how much is in there.

Anyone want to help guess?

For background, I opened the account over 15 years ago and at that time was earning about £28k.

I drove a new car and saved up enough to travel the world, but what is left in this forgotten account.

Did I stash a cheeky grand. Or £100 to open it. Or is it empty or maybe containing £4.36.

I'm quite excited.

What do you all think?

You should give 10% of the money in the account to the closest guess! And on that basis I’m going to guess you squirrelled away £10k...Grin

Opened with good intentions then forgotten. Bit of interest from the days when interest rates were higher.

I had a letter from RBS a couple of years ago saying they owed me some form of compensation. I emailed them and they called me back to discuss. I was on tenterhooks waiting for the call - imagining what I would treat myself to - turned out to be £15.

Yeah I had an email like this supposedly from my bank. I'm afraid it was a scam.

JaffaRaf · 20/08/2021 10:49

My vote is £1, just because I saw a good deal on an ISA a few years ago so opened it and stuck £1 in it… and it still just has £1 in it, I’m not a good saver Grin

Hidehi4 · 20/08/2021 10:51

A tenner but hope it’s more 🤞

Hardbackwriter · 20/08/2021 10:51

This happened to me recently, I went to close a dormant account that I thought had about a tenner in it and it turned out to have £800 in it! The man working at the bank laughed at how surprised I was.

£2.94.
This number because this is how much I am in credit on 1 of my credit cards. They keep sending me cheques for the amount and as it will cost me that to drive to the bank to pay the bloody thing in the money is still on the card.

HopeHappy · 20/08/2021 10:52

I have a few accounts with just a couple of pennies in it as it's too much hassle to close them so I just empty them as far as I can and leave them laying dormant. So I'm basically hoping for your sake that it's something more than 1p!
