I'll start with skinny co pornstar martini mix. Tasted incredibly sweet and synthetic. It stated use 1 part vodka to 3 parts mix. I tried that too sweet added more vodka so 50/50 just about drinkable. I drank another one with the reverse ratios, almost OK but I was so drunk I fell over and knocked the TV over.

The other downside was that it stank so much so that my empty glass had made the whole room stink.

GHD hairdryer - too big and unwieldy (although part of the problem is I normally use a travel hairdryer, to be fair)
A Blackberry phone (I'm going back 12 years here). Utter shit.
Air fryer as a (requested) Xmas gift for DH. He's used it once.
Too many Filofaxes.

GrandmasCat · 12/08/2021 01:07

Every single Dyson product I have got.

I have given up now, never again.

Dita73 · 12/08/2021 01:07

Vivienne Westwood platform boots. I never wear regular heels let alone anything like this. Fuck knows what I was thinking. They’re now on eBay

pascheretloire · 12/08/2021 01:13

Spiraliser. Used about twice then sent to the charity shop.
Magnetic false eyelashes. Just awful.
Dyson. Utter shite, and the vacuum repair shop (where it spent most of its time before dying) agreed.

FrenchCovidInfo · 12/08/2021 01:26

Magnetic false eyelashes. Just awful

The clue would have been right there in the name for me!! Grin

SueblueNZ · 12/08/2021 01:50

Opalex #3.
Useless.

Mothership4two · 12/08/2021 02:17

Cream eyeshadow. Bought a few pots after watching 10 Years Younger in 10 Days and the make-up artist recommended it for mature eyes. It's OK if you like to apply eye makeup with a trowel. It gives me a certain Rocky Horror Picture Show vibe. Shock

househuntinginthesouth · 12/08/2021 02:41

A treadmill

LoveFall · 12/08/2021 03:02

Dyson anything. Way overpriced and poor quality.

Elemis cosmetics and skin care on cruises. I always feel sorry for the spa people and spend way too much. It all vanishes into a deep hole in my bathroom when I get home.

A skin thingy that is supposed to suck out blackheads. It doesn't.

A huge set of alcohol markers for card making. They live under my desk and never come out. Pretty much dried up now.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 12/08/2021 03:56

This awful, horrible Rimmel gel nail polish.

It looks like cake batter so I'm taking it off.

Hmph.

daisychain01 · 12/08/2021 04:58

My sister made me some broccoli and stilton soup in Her soup maker which actually tasted identical to sick

That'll be the Stilton, not the Soup Maker, it makes everything taste of sick!

I must be lucky with my Dualit Toaster and kettle, bought them from John Lewis 4 years ago and they've been fab since day 1 and still going strong. The toaster cooks the bread far more evenly than our other toaster.

This thread has saved me a fortune on stuff I think sounds like a good idea but is just expensive junk cluttering up the place.

daisychain01 · 12/08/2021 05:02

Purple and turquoise Dyson hoover - absolutely useless plastic crap.

Henry is the absolutely dogs in our house, great suction - we have two of them, one upstairs, one downstairs to save carrying it everywhere with all the attachments.

Sweetener12 · 12/08/2021 05:41

There were several cheap moisturizing creams that worked fine for me years ago but buying them again now was a huge mistake. I had terrible acne and it happened right before the corporate photo shoot, so I had to ask the photographer to spend some extra time in Photodiva and please please please remove all this from my face. And don't get me started about the time spent on trying to remove it from my face irl!

hellywelly3 · 12/08/2021 06:00

A hot tub, it’s so much maintenance and costs a lot to run. It was great at first when we got it about 4 years ago. Hardly anyone uses it now

Deedoubleyou · 12/08/2021 07:17

A new outfit for every wedding invite

sadperson16 · 12/08/2021 07:22

I don't think the soup maker is at fault here.

ivykaty44 · 12/08/2021 07:23

Soup maker - I gave it to my neighbours last year and they love it.

I love my bread maker though and I came on mn to get recommendations many years ago. Was told to get a Panasonic and not bother with anything else as they don't match.

Never had a brick loaf and it works a dream, make pizza base in the machine also. It has saved me a packet over the last 15 odd years

georgarina · 12/08/2021 07:23

An air fryer - huge and unnecessary
A beauty blender - literally no point to these

Roselilly36 · 12/08/2021 07:36

@GingerBreadTeddy

Dualit toaster and kettle. Lasted less time than the cheap supermarket ones I had previously
I agree, totally rubbish, brought mine from JL, toaster was did a really bad job of toasting bread, which is the whole purpose, kettle poor quality too.
echt · 12/08/2021 07:37

Dualit toaster still going strong 25 years later.

I've never bought a soup maker. I saw one in Aldi and thought: surely it's a saucepan?

Bad buy: chainsaw

OldTinHat · 12/08/2021 07:43

An electric tagine pot thing. Used it once in the past ten years since buying it.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 12/08/2021 07:43

touch tap for kitchen sink.
utter waste of money

huge amounts of craft supplies that I'm unlikely to ever use

a variety of barely used shoes on Ebay - because they don't fit! who knew that size 5 is not a "one size that will make them all fit"?

chickens.
I didn't want them. I got voted down ad I should've stood my ground.
I was the one that found the lifeless, headless body of one that got attacked by a fox & I was the one who saw another one die (she was eggbound, we had no idea until too late).
we still have too and I'm fond of them but I wish we had never had them

there's so much more

FloconDeNeige · 12/08/2021 07:48

I wish I could use a Lumea! I have fair skin and white body hair, so it’s not gonna work. I guess I can get away with not shaving religiously and as long as you don’t get too close, you can’t see the light reflecting off the hairs! I hate the stubbly feeling though.

I gave up with the epilator as it left red dots at the follicles. A razor it is then.

Things that have been wasted buys;

  • Robot vacuum. Gets stuck too often, the cat attacks it and buggers up it’s cleaning pattern and the kids mess about with it. Now gathering dust.
  • Sewing machine. Every time I see it, I feel guilty for not having found the time to properly learn how to use it. My Mum & MIL have both shown me but I leave it so long I forget again.

On the other hand, we use the Panasonic (has to be Panasonic) bread machine almost every day with great results. I also use my Kenwood and the attachments very frequently.

Sunshineandflipflops · 12/08/2021 07:50

@ThreeKneeRepeater

All Saints leather biker jacket. I’ve worn it twice in three years.
Oh, I love mine and wear it all the time!
robotcollision · 12/08/2021 07:50

Dualit toaster and kettle. Lasted less time than the cheap supermarket ones I had previously
Same here. The Dualit we were given as a wedding present broke within six months and I was embarrassed as the friends who bought it were coming to stay so replaced it for ££££. Also lasted six months. Bought a £4 Argos one that worked for years to replace it.
