I'll start with skinny co pornstar martini mix. Tasted incredibly sweet and synthetic. It stated use 1 part vodka to 3 parts mix. I tried that too sweet added more vodka so 50/50 just about drinkable. I drank another one with the reverse ratios, almost OK but I was so drunk I fell over and knocked the TV over.

The other downside was that it stank so much so that my empty glass had made the whole room stink.

but I’ve never seen or heard of these tabletop cookers in this country.

I went to a restaurant where they had these tabletop cookers. It was strange as I don't cook at home whilst sitting in a chair unable to move backwards away from the smoke. Multiply that by many people doing the same thing. I never returned to the restaurant.

I wondered about the smoke. You don’t see that in Korean dramas!

Oh hav e to add all the skincare that is supposed to deal with rosacea. Roche posay and avene have helped me out no end with rosacea, but it was other products for sensitive skin, their roseacea products were awful!!

Peanutsandchilli · 14/08/2021 14:51
@Peanutsandchilli the main problem is usually not tucking in any exposed bamboo/microfibre thoroughly, which is hard to do (lots of little bits!). These are the parts that tend to ‘wick’ onto clothes and cause leaking. It’s true they don’t work quite as well on babies under 3 months/until they ‘fill out’ a bit (especially on babies with skinny legs like my son!), but long-term I don’t see the baby feeling that they are wet as being a problem. How are they supposed to learn if, like with disposables, all the moisture is immediately drawn away from their bottoms? The problem is in a way that disposables are almost too good at their job - hence why children toilet train far later now than in the past. I would personally rather have that as a ‘problem’ than the nappy rash caused by all the oils and plastics in disposable nappies 🤷‍♀️
I used (mainly) pocket ones so everything was tucked inside the nappy. I didn't use them on a very young baby so no issues with scrawny legs, and I disagree that disposables don't leave them feeling wet for a while. Disposables stay wet for a good few minutes before drying out. I'd rather that, than them being sat in wet, acidic urine for hours. That can't be good for their skin. An immobile baby is never going to learn to toilet train so why would I want them to feel constantly wet? Each to their own though, I guess.

For once I can proudly say I've had a near miss, nearly buying a Dyson. My boss just bought one for work, and it's so loud, and so plasticky, if it's bought that first it wouldn't put my of cordless for life. Thank God for the roidmi/xiaomi wonders that live upstairs and downstairs!

My regret is a bosch dryer. It only only spins in one direction, so My sheets end up in a tight little ball that I actually have to prise apart, revealing the most creased material I've ever seen.

My emergency cheap dryer before was brilliant, just heavier on electricity.

Keep muttering curses, hoping it will give up. Hate it!!

@Andante57

Whenever we watch Korean dramas I’m always tempted by those things that look like miniature hotplates on which you cook food at the table - a sort of tabletop barbecue However I remind myself of DJ’s ban on further gadgets……

I’ve know of lots of people owning fondue sets - and even sometimes using them! - but I’ve never seen or heard of these tabletop cookers in this country.

They're nice, those tabletop BBQs but you need to repaint the room after using them a few times because of all the smoke
cannockcandy · 14/08/2021 18:45

I got a very cheap very lightweight vacuum cleaner from Factory Shop that is great with cat fur and has attachments and comes apart so you can make it small and do all the skirting boards and all that.
OH got me a Hoover that was bigged up as lightweight, great for pet fur and dust. Also cordless so easier right? Wrong! It goes over stuff and just doesn't suck it up. It doesn't pick up pet fur and won't do the edges of the room and has no attachments. Also only has a tiny waste collection bit so need emptying all the frigging time.
So glad I kept the cheap one!

ohfufoxsake · 14/08/2021 19:30

Honestly @ViewFromHalfway, as a fellow multiple dog owner, Henry. The others are just too faffy...depends if you want pretty or functional!!

WendelFong · 14/08/2021 19:33

Another vote for the sodding useless Shark cordless vaccum. I spend more time cleaning it out than it spends cleaning my floors. Total rage-inducing waste of money.

ViewFromHalfway · 15/08/2021 08:21

I have finally stopped procrastinating and bought a vacuum cleaner, thanks to this thread! Went for a Henry (well, it's the pet one so think it's 'Harry') and it should arrive today!

My eldest (autistic like me) had a special interest in hoovers (and Henrys in particular - we had all the toys) when he was younger. I feel a bit bad it's only now he doesn't give a shit about them that I'm finally buying one! Then again, we'd never have been allowed to put it away (as it was he needed some time to cuddle and chat to the vac we had at the time after it had been used, before it was allowed to go back in the cupboard)...

loopylindi · 15/08/2021 11:26

dyson vacuum - absolute c...p.You have to show it the bit you want picking up and you can almost see it thinking.....uuh...no...I don't think so. Not today anyway! Then there's the weight of it! Lugging it upstairs is def a no-no. The first model I had was much better. This one has a plate at the bottom which has to be depressed to make the thing operational but since I have a knee problem I almost fall over as I use my 'good' leg/foot to depress said pedal/plate. It's about as manoeverable as shopping trolley.

loopylindi · 15/08/2021 12:11

@Laiste your description of the pool fiasco has me in tears. It's the funniest thing I've read for ages.

loopylindi · 15/08/2021 12:14

@adante47 These are sold as Raclettes I think. Good for out door eating. Not so good inside as they tend to set the smoke alarms off

Andante57 · 15/08/2021 12:38

Loopylindi thank you for that - I’ll have a look.

SleepyMathematician · 15/08/2021 12:49
@SleepyMathematician, which one was it please? Had a similar experience!
It was a vango verona airbeam. It’s great up (apart from the zips which constantly snag and the fact it ripped the first time we put it up and after only 3 weeks it had to go back to vango for repair - leaving us with a repaired tent that cost us well over a grand and was only a few weeks old). The layout is good and it’s spacious and airy. But I’d never have bought it if I’d known how cumbersome and impossible it was and I never will again!

loopylindi · 15/08/2021 12:59

@toomuchtodo Fondue sets can be used for melted chocolate and fruit kebabs too - really healthy!!

loopylindi · 15/08/2021 13:02

@knittednanny Remouska use. I use ours for delicious roast dinner (for 2) chicken and pigs in blankets in the bottom, parsnips/roasties and carrots on the rack in a cake pan. Cooked in the time it takes the main oven to heat up so saves so much electricity

Knittingnanny · 15/08/2021 18:03

@loopylindi I know I should use it more.... or sell it!
I’m on a digital piano thread as I’m considering buying one. Hope that doesn’t turn out to be something for this thread!
Just read the thread title to my husband and said I’ve admitted to three things, he guessed 2
Remoska and “ that flipping overlocker I queued up outside Lidl’s for you after I’d finished a night shift”
The garden sofa, when I told him that was the third thing he went into the man shed and linked all the bits together with big fat cable ties

MyTeenagersPissMeOffMostDays · 15/08/2021 18:09

Those reduce priced condoms 😂😂

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 16/08/2021 10:06

Another vote for the overlocker. I don't see why something like that has to be so complicated? Of the four threads, I would expect at least one of.them to thread in a sensible direction, but no. I second the wanting to cry when one of the threads snapped. I had to put the dvd on to do the threading, as the diagram wasn't clear. Would have helped if it wasn't black and white. There is a way of doing it so you unthread the appropriate needle, then attach the thread by knotting, and pull it through, but that was too much to get my head round also... Mine is sitting under the stairs waiting for my daughter to have it at her house. I shall take it to her soon...

Knittingnanny · 16/08/2021 11:36

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants I feel your pain, I’ve tried that idea of undoing the needle to thread it as well. I’ve gone back to using zigzag stitch on my sewing machine for neatening seams instead of the overlocker. When I go upstairs to sew my husband calls up “ are you using the overlocker that I queued up for?”!
I might sell it as a job lot with a remoska!

knackeredcat · 16/08/2021 13:48

As at this afternoon - new scales. Bloody hell. Major wake up call. A lot of work to do. Shock Blush

BlueLobelia · 16/08/2021 13:56

Worldwide travel insurance to cover the US and the Carribean and cruises and water sports.

February last year.

Fucking expensive it was. i was most irritated to get an e-mail reminder for renewal after a year also.

Grin
Hopdathelf · 16/08/2021 14:08

Same here. Bought my worldwide travel insurance in early March. To add insult to injury my renewal this year had increased significantly in price.

Kanaloa · 16/08/2021 14:11

My kindle. I love reading and read a lot but don’t have space for any more book shelves. So, I got a kindle.

I wish I had just got an iPad with the kindle app on - the issue with the kindle is that it doesn’t do anything else. Also, I find it quite slow/not as user friendly as my iPhone.
