I'll start with skinny co pornstar martini mix. Tasted incredibly sweet and synthetic. It stated use 1 part vodka to 3 parts mix. I tried that too sweet added more vodka so 50/50 just about drinkable. I drank another one with the reverse ratios, almost OK but I was so drunk I fell over and knocked the TV over.

The other downside was that it stank so much so that my empty glass had made the whole room stink.

The great thing about a kindle IMO is that it doesn't do anything else! So I don't get distracted by the internet from reading my book Smile

I've got a mini iPad with kindle on, and although I dithered for ages about whether I could justify buying one, it really has been one of the best purchases I ever made. It really comes into its own when I go on holiday - I upload books, including borrowed library books, podcasts etc, use it for local maps and information, if necessary put some sort of language/phrasebook app on, use it to find out about local trains, opening times.

Totally agree. I have to put my phone right away from me when I'm reading. I love reading a real book or reading on my kindle. If I tried reading on my phone or tablet, I'd be constantly checking notifications and updates.

I wish I had just got an iPad with the kindle app on
The functionality of the app isn't close to having the kindle itself- am an author who was exclusively on kindle and was embarrassed by how bad it was so when people told me they had no kindle I told them there's an app but I'd leave it!!

Kanaloa · 16/08/2021 16:45

It just doesn’t work well for me. If I’d got the iPad I could have watched films on flights etc, plus I could have downloaded my ‘libby’ app which lets me download books from my library, and has a better selection. I’ve also not found kindle unlimited that great, it’s not the sort of books I would read.

I do still use it but I just wouldn’t recommend it for the price it is - it does save me a bit of money though as books which are 9.99 in store are often £4/5 on kindle, and I found it great when I was reading big books that aren’t as easy to lug about.

Interesting, I have the app on my phone and it works great - it jumps quickly to where I last was and books upload to it immediately.
Egghead68 · 16/08/2021 16:54

Just put the kindle app in your phone and sell your kindle.

Kanaloa · 16/08/2021 17:06

I’ve considered it but they don’t really resell for great prices and I do use it, don’t think it’s awful at all! Just not what I had expected I suppose. It’s a shame they don’t allow the library to have an app on kindle, I think a lot of people would use that. I know it’s been fab for me because my local library is a bit rubbish.

NeverSurrender · 16/08/2021 17:10

Another one who loves our Henry! We bought him for about £80 in the Argos sale about 15 years ago and you can't beat it for suction and cord length. The first time we used it it sucked the old stair carpet right up off the tacks! It's a bit battered now, and has had a replacement hose and stick bit since we've had it but never had any loss of suction over the years. My friend is a cleaner and swears by Henry too. The only downside is when it's getting full is a bit heavy to get up the stairs. I spend a decent amount of time pining over a cordless hoover for in between hoovers but am put off by all the bad reviews!

Agree. My Kindle sits on my bedside table along with my RL books. Apart from the thickness it has the same dimensions as a paperback, whereas my phone is smaller and my iPad bigger. I have it set on blue light by default, it doesn't glare like my other devices, and the kids don't borrow it. I've had it for about 9 years.

@AMCoffeePMWine

All cleaning products, as they only work if you use them. Letting them occupy the space under the sink doesn’t make the house any cleaner.
I agree - they are bastards
IloveJudgeJudy · 16/08/2021 19:45

You can't read the kindle app on your phone in bright sunlight (or at least I can't). That's where the kindle comes into its own.

It wouldn't make them any money. Confused
Kanaloa · 16/08/2021 22:12

They would still get money from the sale of the device? And I’m sure many people would also buy kindle books, just use the library app also. I mean it doesn’t seem to be a problem to download it to Amazon tablets, iPads etc so it’s not like it’s totally outlandish.

That's great! I find highlighting, making notes and jumping about not as easy on the app

@pictish

Steam cleaner - get better results with hot soapy water and a cloth.

The Shark vacuum - like someone else said; faints at anything other than light dust and spits everything back out in a little pile on the floor. Total waste of money. I had to get cumbersome old Henry back out of retirement. Much better.

Pictish, I read your post with interest, I've wanted a steam mop for ages, do you know if they are all useless please? I wanted one to go over the carpets and arms of easy chairs and wondered if they sterilise in the bathroom, thank you for any replies

@TatianaBis

Hmm I raise you my Miele dishwasher - after a year (just out of guarantee) the control panel went and had to be replaced to the tune of £500.
@TatianaBis You really should dispute the cost of repair. Goods should be fit for purpose and you should reasonably be able to expect of you have used a dishwasher appropriately then it would work for more that a year. My sister successfully argued that her American style Fridge Freezer shouldn’t have packed up after 18 months (1 year guarantee) and got a free replacement. Took a few snotty letters and the threat of taking them to small claims court, but they did then admit she was right. www.theguardian.com/money/2006/mar/25/consumernews.howtocomplain
