I'll start with skinny co pornstar martini mix. Tasted incredibly sweet and synthetic. It stated use 1 part vodka to 3 parts mix. I tried that too sweet added more vodka so 50/50 just about drinkable. I drank another one with the reverse ratios, almost OK but I was so drunk I fell over and knocked the TV over.

The other downside was that it stank so much so that my empty glass had made the whole room stink.

I went to a wedding where they had the most beautiful chocolate fountain. I had to have one. I think we have used it twice and it's now stuck in the cupboard, it's too fiddly to clean !

Some very expensive Birkenstock leather knee boots that I expected to last for years. Left zip broke suddenly so flapping round my ankles when I was out in sub zero temperatures. They were only a couple of weeks old but the shop refused to refund as 'wear and tear'. Charged me ££ for a repair that broke again a few days later. Still cross about it a decade on!

@GingerBreadTeddy

Dualit toaster and kettle. Lasted less time than the cheap supermarket ones I had previously
I love mine!

Another nomination for the Dyson vacuum cleaner. It lost suction with incredible frequency due to its poor design and we spent most of the time clearing fluff out of the ridiculously narrow, twisty tube between the sucker end and the rest of the vac.

A mystery series, three so far, set in Alaska. I was looking forward to descriptions of Alaska itself. The damn thing could have been set in Chicago during the winter. The extent of setting the scene was, "At 32 below..." (F, not C, of course). I know it wasn't a travelogue, but MY GOD, Alaska is BREATHTAKING! Some descriptions would have been nice. AND I figured out whodunit in the first 4 chapters of all 3 books. Donating to the convalescent center down the road. Someone will like them.

Oil of Olay Regenerist Luminous lotion with spf. It pills very badly under makeup and makes skin look odd!

ozymandiusking · 13/08/2021 01:14

Interestingly, nobody has mentioned irons! Probably a job lots of us hate and a piece of equipment we use frequently. ( watch mine stop working tomorrow.)

Cailleachian · 13/08/2021 01:45

@Talia99

Slow cooker. I’ve literally never used it. Bought for the person I’d like to be not the person I actually am.
Is being a slow cooker person aspirational?

I think I may have become accidentally fashionable.

Wheresmybiscuit3 · 13/08/2021 02:04

A furby

Maskless · 13/08/2021 02:10

Also, a £200 Miele vacuum cleaner. But it worked out OK in the end.

I auctioned it on ebay and got £80, then bought a cheap cylinder one from Argos (Argos own brand) for £35 which is so sucky that it literally lifts the vinyl. Best vacuum ever!

discusstin · 13/08/2021 02:10

A cordless Dyson cleaner.
A weighted hula hoop.
Any nail polish I have ever purchased as they all last less than a day.
A Russian piping bag set.
Massively expensive stainless steel pans as everything sticks unless it’s being boiled in water.

Blueink · 13/08/2021 06:35

Another for Boden, buttons fell off 2 dresses quite quickly (which has happened with nothing else I own) plus strange ‘bobbling’ of the material. Poor quality, expensive and unflattering.
Love my Dualit toaster though, it’s over 20 years old and been with me through a lot. Including honey on toast suggested by midwife when in labour!
(Never owned the kettle but experience from friend, they are not good, although Dualit will replace them, she had 2 or 3 replacements then gave up).

Sunnycats · 13/08/2021 06:47

A kimono style wrap sweatshirt from Sweaty Betty in grey which looks like a bath robe and I wore it twice and now is rolled into a ball in the bottom of my cupboard. An expensive mistake at £100!

I love their stuff normally but this looks awful on me and I wish I had sent it back!

Darlingx · 13/08/2021 06:53

So true and it’s taking up so much cupboard space. My mother bought the mothership of Magimix its huge with a zillion attachments its sitting in the box as she can’t face figuring out how it all works and wants me to go through it with her . I can’t face it either as I do all her Ebay for her as is. My brother will be given this megayacht mixer if all our kitchens weren’t so small living in flats. What a waste but my mother is gadget crazy and lockdown she needed a new toy.

Angelil · 13/08/2021 07:02

@Peanutsandchilli then you weren’t putting them on the baby properly. There is a knack to it. We had a few problems at the beginning too but you have to persevere to get used to them as they are definitely different to disposables. Which ones were you using?

Spuffcat · 13/08/2021 07:21

These really made me laugh, thanks!!

So many to list…sandwich toaster that gathers dust, yowling cat, Lenovo laptop…but did swerve buying a flat that had a dodgy roof!!!Smile

vinoinveritas · 13/08/2021 07:25

I agree! Shark vacuum was a massive disappointment - would rather pull heavy Henry around - at least he actually sucks some dirt up!

vinoinveritas · 13/08/2021 07:28

... And spaghetti courgetti maker (husband bought it & did it once!) What a faff!! Took forever to clean after use!

Darlingx · 13/08/2021 07:33

I had /have a Trenchcoat addiction. This has occurred to me looking at my selling history. I am on the eternal quest for the perfect Trenchcoat that will make me look magnificent . It’s sparked by seeing some random stylish woman looking great in a Trenchcoat. Latest seems to be longer style but here’s the thing a trenchcoat is not water proof and doesn’t keep you warm. When its not cold I don’t wear a coat HmmI don’t work in an office so I actually just don’t need one or is that I haven’t found the right one? I am currently down to 3 sitting in my wardrobe for sale online all bought on discount or secondhand but I might finally be facing that I just won’t ever look like that cool woman I see in a trenchcoat a bit like a fringe and just enjoy someone else looking great with theirs Envycurly hair so can never do fringe.

Bellend101 · 13/08/2021 07:34

I bought a Bissell Crosswave based on someone's rave review on here. Absolute garbage.

OhWhyNot · 13/08/2021 07:38

Breville PressXpress cordless iron

Took ages to iron anything as needed to reheat and so bulky complete waste of money I gave it to me mum

And it was something I researched beforehand (I don’t usually just trust a few reviews Blush )

I shall go to buying of a whim

BigButtons · 13/08/2021 07:39

The shark hate is odd- had mine for years- it’s great.
I also love my Karcher window cleaner- had it for years too.

Zatapec · 13/08/2021 07:41

Hi, I've been thinking about buying an air fryer, should I not bother? O

Mollymoostoo · 13/08/2021 07:42

Sewing machine. I wanted a smaller one than my trusty Singer but the one I got is not as heavy duty so I hardly use it.
Foodmixer (easier to use a bowl and I hardly bake anymore)
Crockpot express, cheaper than the instapot but you can't get any accessories for it Sad

MinnieMountain · 13/08/2021 07:47

A jumperoo. It took up loads of room and DS hated it. Luckily I’d bought it second hand so managed to sell it on to a friend for the same price.
