Poached 2 eggs in my Instant Pot for lunch. One minute on STEAM and they were perfect-lovely runny yolks. I can never get them right on the stove-top.

MissConductUS · 11/08/2021 14:29

Welcome, @Baconking, and thanks for sharing your laundry news. I like your handle. We are big bacon fans at my house.

Sue, how did the eggs go into the Instant Pot, in the shell or a poaching cup? You had water in the bottom of the pot I assume.

In silicon cake cases, in my steamer basket (cos I thought they might fall off a trivet) with a cup of water underneath.

Gingerwarthog · 11/08/2021 15:56

Love poached eggs. Have to rescue mine with the slotted spoon - adding vinegar to the water always helps me.
Been to Supermarket which still seems like an exotic day out in Covid times.
Bought (among other things) Bakewell tart so I can join in with the low carb frenzy.
Later will do the ironing and pick some rhubarb.

PhloxOfSheep · 11/08/2021 17:47

Thanks Sunbird

Garage door has had a couple of coats and didn't get rained on. Sanding it down first revealed that before the blue we were painting over, it was peach. Who has a peach garage door? Where does one even buy peach metal paint?

I am tired today but looking forward to lamb biryani for dinner.

HelenaJustina · 11/08/2021 18:39

You would think that being out of the house and outdoors all day from 9.05am to 5.45pm would exhaust the children. But they appear to have got their second eighthwind. We have had a ‘beach day’ on two separate beaches. There were not enough carbs...

Silkiecats · 11/08/2021 18:43

DH told me before he had made his Kallax bookcase. Then I heard banging I said DH what are you doing? He said I am remaking my Kallax bookcase as I made it wrong the first time.

Plumber came and changed the taps on the sink in the bathroom, one was leaking badly and taps are perfect now. DS has been in to test them about every half hour since 11am when he left.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/08/2021 19:05

Silkie How, I wonder? There are 11 Kallax / Expedit shelves around me, those used for books are positioned like supermarket shelves, so we can fill them from both sides. The dust collects invisible in the middle. Grin. Sev used to hide between the books, too, and came out all dusty.

Silkiecats · 11/08/2021 19:49

I don't know Prok but I've never known him do a DIY project right yet in 20 odd years. He often things he knows better than the instructions like he always knows there's a store not listed on a list of stores which was there 20 years ago but has shut or he knows a faster route than the satnav which is now blocked or he gets lost and then starts ranting But he always insists he is doing it with no help, otherwise I am questioning his competence. I ignored him this time for the plumber as last time I ended up paying £1k extra on the water bill when he told me I wasn't to call a plumber as he was fixing the leak tomorrow which turned into 3 months and then he couldn't fix it. Plumber fixed that in 30 seconds. But he is very good at cooking and is making fajitas now.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/08/2021 20:14

Silkie Cooking skills are most important! More important than DIY.

DH does the shopping, cooking and meal planning in this household. I do cleaning, washing, funiture and computers. We both do plants.

Sunbird24 · 11/08/2021 21:21

I’ve just cleaned my teeth, but now I want to eat raspberries as today is their best before date. 🤔
Oh, and I have sudocrem on my face to try and bring down 2 great big zits.

Champagneforeveryone · 11/08/2021 22:40

We are on a canal boat in the arse end of nowhere and now DH has fallen over and is the proud owner of knee that is approximately twice the normal size. He's in a lot of pain but insisting that all will be fine by the morning.

Meanwhile we are at least one whole days full on cruising (more likely two) from our car, and at least a 20 minute hobble to the closest road.

I have even asked MN for advice as to what I should do as I'm somewhat flummoxed Confused

Gingerwarthog · 11/08/2021 23:21

Phone 111 or whatever the local out of hours Doctors' service is and get some advice re knee?
Might put your mind at rest.

Sunbird24 · 11/08/2021 23:27

Can you do rest, ice, compression, elevation for tonight and see about medical attention in the morning?

MissConductUS · 12/08/2021 00:41

If it's painful to walk on he needs radiography of the knee.

OP posts:
Silkiecats · 12/08/2021 01:28

I would call 111 and see what they advise. It'll probably be A&E but normally they let you speak to a doctor who should be able to advise.

MissConductUS · 12/08/2021 01:37

We're back to oppressive heat and humidity, and there are thunder storms moving into the area now.

I've put Indian Summers on hold and am now watching Frankie Drake Mysteries from the CBC. The accents are blissfully easy to understand.

Champagne, I'm sorry to hear about your DH but it's very unlikely that the knee will recover that quickly. You'll may need to arrange transport for him from the boat landing.

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 12/08/2021 02:05

We're having horrible heat and humidity here too, and wild thunderstorms in the evenings. There was a confirmed tornado touchdown in the area (nowhere close) last night.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 12/08/2021 03:31

Some of DD’s friends lost power and had a tree fall in their car last night in those storms mathanxiety. I think they were on the news. Glad you’re ok.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 12/08/2021 07:05

@Champagneforeveryone: get it seem to asap. This is from someone who didn't, and now has even more scars and metal in him than last month.

Also, I have descended the stairs without using my hands, and reascended them carrying breakfast.

sueelleker · 12/08/2021 08:33

I damaged my knee when I slipped in Asda, displaced my kneecap, and ended up having to have a knee replacement (because no-one realised how much damage I'd done until a year later) Get it looked at ASAP.

HildaTablet · 12/08/2021 12:55

That’s not good about your DH’s knee, Champagne - I do hope you get something sorted.

We had a decent-sized cauliflower in our veg box at the weekend and I thought I’d do cauliflower cheese last night. Once I peeled off the foliage I was left with something the size of a large-ish walnut Confused I had to eke it out with some fennel that luckily came in the box too.

Gingerwarthog · 12/08/2021 15:15

Haven't had the knee experience but did have a fall where I thought my elbow was absolutely fine until A and E told me it was broken and I'd severed the tendons...
Poached eggs on toast for Babywarthog and me in our favourite Caff in town. Followed by a trip to the charity bookshop where I got a hardback copy of 'Shuggie Bain' and a paperback Rebus. BW got a book on animals.
Grin

HelenaJustina · 12/08/2021 16:00

Eeek @Champagneforeveryone what have you decided to do? DC4 has been on a pony day today #livingherbestlife as apparently one of her dreams was to ride on the moors. It was an absolute bargain, 5 hrs for half the price of a 45 minute hack on a beach.
We bribed the others to do a lovely walk well I thought it was lovely by promising lunch in a cafe afterwards. This is so unusual for our family that they acquiesced without hesitation.

Champagneforeveryone · 12/08/2021 17:57

Well DH flatly refused to get the knee looked at and was slightly more mobile on it (which wasn't saying much TBH)

I conceded defeat but am not happy about it.

In better news, we are drinking beer on a tow path somewhere between Wales and England. And I've managed to get sunburned Confused
