Just phoned the council as dh wanted a cupboard added to the special collection. 12 minutes for them to answer then what is collection date Wednesday, oh well I will need to consult people about that to see if we can take a cupboard. 6 minutes later and consultation has resulted in cupboard being added for 5 pounds.

Silkiecat is still on the shelf and going brrrrup, her happy noise, any time someone walks past and she gets a cuddle. Dh has warned her she is close to falling off but she just gave him a don't be stupid look.

Hope you are having a nice day out with the baby. When ds was that age we took him to Maderia and they had a hammock and he was very happy there with a bottle of milk. He was a very lazy baby.

Squirrel26 · 09/08/2021 12:59

Fell off a horse. It was entirely intentional on his part. Not so much on mine.

ifigoup · 09/08/2021 13:01

I set off on the scenic bus for a town a couple of hours away, but after 30 minutes there was a road closure (very rural so no suitable alternative for a big bus) and we had to turn back.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/08/2021 13:08

DD is buying Dougnuts

Nydj · 09/08/2021 13:50

Thank you for the new thread @MissConductUS. Yesterday, I found myself wondering about when your DS was heading off to uni again and I see that you have mentioned that it will be on the 19th. The empty nest will be strange and very, odd but it will be fine.
Flowers and Cake for you @imonlyhooman and I hope your DS and DIL had a nice day and that your DS reconnects with you all soon.
Too wet for a walk today so I did some exercises at home instead.

Nydj · 09/08/2021 13:53

Flowers and Cake for you too @Squirrel26 - I hope you didn’t get hurt. Was this the same horse who got in the truck to somewhere and then refused to get back in to return home? If so, he or she certainly seems ‘spirited’!

MissConductUS · 09/08/2021 14:52

Welcome. @ifigoup, and thanks for sharing your disappointing travel news.

Everyone seems to be getting donuts today. The last time I checked, there were two of the apple cider cinnamon sugar donuts left out of the original six. I have had one. I think DS has had a couple, as he can eat twice what we do and not gain weight.

I'm giving Indian Summers a watch. The first episode was pretty good, but there are a lot of characters to keep straight.

Thanks @Nydj. That’s him. He thinks he’s funny. Hmm

MissConductUS · 09/08/2021 15:36

Squirrel, you have reinforced my preference for pets that are smaller than I am.

Nydj, I am rather dreading having him go. We won't have either of them back until Thanksgiving at the end of November. DH will have to take over lawn mowing duties. On the positive side, there will be a lot less laundry to do and the food shopping will be reduced.

Prok Oops. Paint, obviously Grin it got a reprieve though because it rained so we switched to indoor jobs.

Miss I bought myself a doughnut at Sainsbury's this morning because I was still thinking about how nice your apple cider cinnamon sugar ones sounded. I thought it was quite restrained of me to only buy one.

PhloxOfSheep · 09/08/2021 15:55

Squirrel Horses make me very nervous. Yours is doing nothing to convince me that I am not entirely correct in feeling that way.

Gingerwarthog · 09/08/2021 16:07

Brushed Wartycat. The full brush. 30 minutes. Normally docile pet is not happy and is making growling noises.

MissConductUS · 09/08/2021 16:10

Phlox, the cider donuts are really good. The shops make them in the late summer and fall, so it's a seasonal item. Do you have similar donuts in the UK? If not, perhaps this is a business opportunity. Smile

What type of donut did you get at Sainsbury's?

The Subaru dealer rang DH. They've changed the oil, rotated the tyres, and are doing the New York State inspection. DH asked them to check the battery, and it turns out that it's 5 years old and needs replacement. They will replace it. He was quite pleased he thought to ask them to check it. Smile

One of us will leave a bit early to pick up DS and drive to the dealership this afternoon to get the car back.

Miss I found a NYT recipe for this type of doughnut - cidre / ebbelwoi in it's different varieties is a regional product and not at home in the Berlin area, though cider after the UK tradition is being introduced.

DS just came home from school - his long day is Monday. He seemed pleased.

PhloxOfSheep · 09/08/2021 17:01

Miss Sadly, I don't think we do. I've never seen anything like them, and a quick google search mostly brings up recipes on US sites. Here it tends to be a standard jam or custard-filled doughnut, an unfilled ring doughnut, or a filled and iced Krispy Kreme-style option. I opted for a basic jam filled one. It was 40p and sort of satisfied my longing for one of yours.

MissConductUS · 09/08/2021 18:13

The cider donuts, as you've seen in google, are the ring type and unfilled. The best ones have a slightly crunchy outer layer that the cinamon sugar adheres to.

I think we may have to stop discussing apple cider donuts. I've just had a walk and a small, disciplined lunch and now cannot stop thinking about them.

Ginger, we have one cat who loves a brushing and the other can't tolerate it at all.

Just been outside to check on my vegetable plants. Tomatoes and runner beans look to be doing well and have gone a bit wild, the lettuce is doing weird things and the courgette plant is doing absolutely nothing. Complete opposite to last year where I ended up with several huge courgettes and the runner bean plants got infested with black fly and had a really poor yield.

Gingerwarthog · 09/08/2021 18:37

Horse - my courgettes have done nothing this year too. My broad beans have been amazing.
DD found a can of French style mixed vegetables in the village shop. Much rejoicing as we can have them with rice and burgers and pretend we're in the Loire.

FeralMeryl · 09/08/2021 18:55

I am really annoyed on behalf of a fictional character who was treated abominably around 130 years ago.
Had a massive cafe lunch which I now regret, I'm calorie counting and I think it was my whole day's calorie intake.
I think Ghosts series 3 starts this evening! Hooray!

Gingerwarthog · 09/08/2021 19:35

Who is the fictional character, Feral?

Silkiecats · 09/08/2021 19:44

I never got doughnuts in the end. Dd went for doughnuts but the doughnuts hadn't arrived in store then so she got crumpets. We can normally get jam doughnuts or custard doughnuts.

Dh has gone to asda to collect a couple of orders, hope he makes it before it closes.

Silkiecat went on our bed then jumped off to be sick on the carpet, nice but glad she jumped off, then she rushed to a plate of leftover macaroni cheese sauce and started picking it like the fastest mac and cheese sauce eater ever. Expected her to be sick again but she is fine and now back half hanging off her shelf.

FeralMeryl · 09/08/2021 19:48

It's Ana Ozores (the judge's wife)

DoctorTwo · 09/08/2021 19:51

Driving around this afternoon I saw an old man had fallen over so I stopped my car and got out to help. Fortunately four others had noticed and together we got the old boy on his feet. Luckily he was alright, just a bit shook up.

MissConductUS · 09/08/2021 20:02

Welcome, @WhiteHorse92, and thanks for sharing your gardening news. I have a good-sized garden in planters on my deck. Anything in the yard is devoured by deer and other wildlife. This year I'm growing tomatoes and tomatillos, both of which have just started to really come in.

Welcome, @FeralMeryl, and thanks for sharing your news. I am also calorie counting these days, which is why all of this talk of cider donuts is doing my head in. They are about 150-200 calories each, so if any are left at home I might have one for a treat. My walk opened up some room in the calorie budget for today.

It's been decided that I will go home, collect DS and then get his car, which is now ready for pickup, complete with the new battery.

@PhloxOfSheep being nervous of horses is very sensible. Mine isn't malicious but he is a great big idiot. This evening he was walking next to me, then something invisible scared him and he bounced sideways and whacked me on the head. Fortunately I had a hat on. Hmm

I'm considering having a cup of tea.
