Realised that I am going out for lunch and drinks for someone’s birthday in a couple of weeks and I have literally no idea what to wear. All I’ve worn in normal life for the last 18 months is clothes for work, horse riding or dog walking. I’m also currently wearing a pair of dungaree shorts like a children’s TV presenter or a 5 year old, so that gives you an idea of the level I need to pull myself up from.

ElGuardiandenoche · 31/08/2021 15:07

Know that feeling @Squirrel26. I’m off to see Wendy James tonight and I haven’t a Scoobies what to wear.

MissConductUS · 31/08/2021 15:10

Welcome, @ElGuardiandenoche, and thanks for sharing your duvet and slumber strategy news.

There's no chill in the air here, unfortunately. Tropical storm Ida is supposed to arrive here tomorrow night with three to four inches of rain.

My trip to the dentist to have the crown put back on did not go well. They determined that the crown came off because the bit of tooth it was cemented to had fractured. The tooth is an upper front tooth, so it can't be ignored, unfortunately. The best option will be to have it extracted and have an implant placed, with a temporary removable crown until the implant heals.

I must have done something in a prior life to deserve my ongoing string of dental disasters.

I’m relishing my last day of freedom before proper work starts again tomorrow (as opposed to the not real work I’ve been doing all summer). I have marked the day by spending too much time in Carphone Warehouse sorting out my phone upgrade, which wasn’t even available so I have to go back tomorrow to pick it up and get the nice young man to do the transferring of everything from old to new phone wizardry

I am now wrapping all presents for September birthdays and writing cards as I know I will not draw breath again until at least the end of the month.

Silkiescatz · 31/08/2021 15:16

Sorry the dentist did not go well MissC I had a colleague who was moaning about her dental issues and I did suggest to her maybe if she cut down from 8 sugars in her tea and fizzy drinks for the rest they may improve. So if you also take 8 sugars that may help. Wink

A bit of an overcast day here but still no rain week and half in. Dh and dd are off buying a special platter from the fish shop with seafood, freshly caught fish, coleslaw and bread and butter and veg stuff for dd and normal fish and chips for ds who only eats plain food.

ElGuardiandenoche · 31/08/2021 15:32

Thanks for the welcome @MissConductUS and so sorry to hear your tooth woes.

We’re overcast here as well but it’s still warm enough to sit on the beach even if I’m wearing a jumper.

Love the sound of that platter @Silkiescatz. I’m off to get a pasty and then home.

Thats nice to sit on beach ElGuardiandenoche

We have eaten the seafood platter which was very nice and as it was so exhausting dh is having another nap and i am lying in bed. We have quite a nice view, bit dark now.

Silkiescatz · 31/08/2021 18:01

We have lost the sea again as dh would say.

ElGuardiandenoche · 31/08/2021 18:24

I’m well jell @Silkiescatz. That’s a gorgeous view to have. What part of the world are you in?

DH is back to work tomorrow so we’ll be back to doing the odd visit after work and at weekends, kids social lives and clubs permitting 🙄

Silkiescatz · 31/08/2021 18:35

We are in North Devon atm on the coast, its nice here and fairly quiet. We went to south Devon by Dartmouth on way down which was beautiful but Dartmouth was so busy, we were staying in countryside then we went to Isles of Scilly, that was the most beautiful but it books out so quickly. We just have a few more days then its back to school, DDs 10 million social events, ds not leaving the house and finishing sorting house. Though i do love our thatched cottage and am missing the pets though not Silkiecats howling at 3am.

Sunbird24 · 31/08/2021 19:01

Hello all, sorry for the long absence! I’m signed off work for the next two weeks, then got leave booked for 10 days, so currently looking online for gentle things to do solo in the UK at the last minute.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 31/08/2021 20:52

Sunbird Welcome back! You are alright?

DH has not bought new trousers - he bought watermelon instead, which is not quite the same.
They (my beloved offspring and their DF) have managed to block the shower drain - so guess what I am going to do now?

Silkiescatz · 31/08/2021 21:03

Welcome back Sunbird I hope you can find some nice things to do in the uk, are you going somewhere for 10 days or day trips. Sorry to hear you are signed off, I hope you are OK.

Sunbird24 · 31/08/2021 21:06

I had emergency surgery and a blood transfusion on Saturday night as another miscarriage got out of control. All ok now, just got to take it easy while I recover!

Window1 · 31/08/2021 21:16

I've been given a bag of apples and am googling and looking on here for different things I can do with them.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 31/08/2021 21:18

Cake?
Kompott?

MissConductUS · 31/08/2021 21:19

Oh, Sunbird, I'm so sorry. Flowers

Silkiescatz · 31/08/2021 21:24

So sorry Sunbird

With the apples we do apple crumble, apple betty, apple pie, apple cake or if eating apples eat them with cheese or in a ploughmans.

Sunbird24 · 31/08/2021 21:25

Thanks all 😘
I do love Dorset apple cake, and it freezes really well…

Silkiescatz · 31/08/2021 21:25

Or Tarte tatin, that is lovely with ice cream.

Window1 · 31/08/2021 21:26

Great suggestions I love apple crumble and the night are drawing in where these kind of puddings appeal more.

MissConductUS · 31/08/2021 21:30

Welcome, @Window1, and thanks for sharing your news. I just had half of an apple cider donut that was fantastic, so your apple news is most timely. I posted a picture of the donuts a few pages back.
