Wartycat would smell very attractive to Silkiecat though Silkiecat is too busy lying on her shelf to do anything. She has been there about the last 48 hours.

I sorted through a box of DH's old stuff, moved the rowing machine and cleaned including the floors upstairs so the single bed can be set up and then had a bath. Gradually getting sorted. Bin day tomorrow so black bin will go and we can refill it. I made about 3 sacks tonight.

DD is pestering about more hair dye and apparently I don't understand the urgency of it nor does DH who got told off a lot by DD as he went to the shops without her yesterday. I have put a ban on more red dye as she needs it neutral again for school. Unfortunately one of school staff told her she could have 2 natural colours so suspect we will have half blonde, half brown again. I suspect the staff member just meant for that day.

I used to have an ecobubble washing machine and I hated it, took ages and left the clothes soaking. After a few years I just bought a different normal one, annoying but well worth it to have the 1 hour cycle and dryish clothes.

Good luck for tomorrow Ripple and hope going back is OK for you too Prok

Had a lovely day sitting on the deck admiring the hummingbirds who kept appearing at the feeder I put out in the tree. They're not the kind of hummingbirds with spectacular plumage, but I don't care. I could watch them all day.

We had a power outage late in the afternoon, so I made a peach cobbler a good deal later than I had planned. DS went out and bought vanilla ice cream to go with it and managed to find a spot to jam it into the freezer. DD4 is going to have to put the cobbler in the fridge when the pyrex dish cools down properly as I'm off to bed soon.

Gingerwarthog · 16/08/2021 06:27

I love the sound of peach cobbler.
Back at work today after some annual leave- good luck to Ripple and Prok.

Silkiecats · 16/08/2021 08:56

I just got a message from Royal Mail to say they've sent my order to the wrong address but are trying to send it to my address and will let me know when they can do that. It was 48 hour tracked sent on Friday but for some reason is now in a different county to me in a village 🤔

Dd has just returned from her walk. Silkiecat still hasn't moved from her shelf.

Silkiecats · 16/08/2021 09:19

Dd went to the shop to get giant crumpets but they were out of them so she got chocolate chip pancakes. Dh was Hmm but sounds nice if not very healthy to me.

Champagneforeveryone · 16/08/2021 11:50

Washing load 42 underway.

DS and I have been to town, been to the bank and Waitrose, DS has had a contact lens check up and picked up a new retainer from the orthodontist. It truly feels like I am a proper adult today.

Back to work tomorrow. I love my job but am not filled with joy at the prospect of going back.

Silkiecats · 16/08/2021 12:00

Dhs hearing is as good as ever. Me to dh: do you have our national trust number dh: sorry I didn't get anything for lunch.

HelenaJustina · 16/08/2021 12:03

@Champagneforeveryone I have a week like that this week... washing load number 3 is about to go on the line. I need to pick up DC’s new school shoes which I ordered to the store, 4 DC have optician appointments at varying times this week and one has orthodontist. 2 DC have scout camp this coming weekend and I am supposed to be back in work on Monday.

Champagneforeveryone · 16/08/2021 13:18

Being an adult is so much less fun than I imagined it helena

Hopefully not too exciting for you all, but I am about to order some toilet rolls.

MissConductUS · 16/08/2021 14:58

Happy Monday, lovely people of the thread.

We had a nice Zoom call last night with DD and my MIL. DD has moved from the dorm she was in over the summer, which had air conditioning, to her dorm for the new academic year, which does not have air con. Fortunately, the weather will be cooler this week.

I had a crown come off a tooth last night during dinner. I've been able to book a appointment this afternoon at 3:00 to have it cemented back on, which is usually so quick that they don't normally charge me to do it.

Helena, I am in awe of your ability to manage four children. Smile

Math, we having hummingbirds who come to visit the flowers on my deck. It drives dboycat batty, as they are much too fast for him to catch.

Amen to that champagne ! To add to my woes, the hairdresser had space for all 4 DC this afternoon, lots of my money and sitting reading my book with a cup of tea time which I’ll be saying goodbye to!

Champagneforeveryone · 16/08/2021 15:42

Ouch helena Confused

Fortunately DS is now of the long hair brigade and only goes every three months so the barber can thin it and trim the ends. We are also past school shoes but heavily into DM's, which thankfully he no longer outgrows.

I have ordered my toilet rolls.

DH has just got home. Amusingly, ChampagneCat has almost forgiven DS and I for her abandonment but has shifted her stink eye to DH instead. She managed to throw him a withering glare on his return before storming off out the cat flap Grin

Squirrel26 · 16/08/2021 16:12

I need to book a contact lens check. Also an appointment for the dog’s vaccinations. And pick up a parcel, go to Pets At Home and finish the online supermarket shop. None of these things should be hard, but I HATE ALL OF THEM. I need a housekeeper.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/08/2021 17:31

Hello calm people,
first day back at work was less stessfull than expected - I only did one hour longer.
Oh and I finished 2nd in my league - the owl was happy but thinks I can do better Grin.

HelenaJustina · 16/08/2021 18:07

@Squirrel26 think of the sense of accomplishment when you’ve ticked them all off though, a small chocolate based reward would be in order.

Congratulations @Prokupatuscrakedatus the little green owl is very demanding!

Gingerwarthog · 16/08/2021 18:42

Baked potatoes for dinner with cheese and beans.
DD has had nails done in various shades of blue.
Wartycat not best pleased as Bluebell cologne was sprayed around the room while he was sleeping on his blankie (lambswool jumper, shrunk in wash). He now smells of bluebells (not tuna).

Sunbird24 · 16/08/2021 19:38

I prefer bluebell scent to tuna scent but then I’m not a cat! 😂
My shins have gone all dry and scaly despite a load of moisturiser, so I’m going to have to try a spot of dry body brushing

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/08/2021 19:42

What are bluebells - google gives me 'Glockeblumen' but they do not have a smell?

Sunbird24 · 16/08/2021 19:51

@Prokupatuscrakedatus the invading Spanish bluebells have no scent, but the native British ones do

Sunbird24 · 16/08/2021 19:54

This is a bluebell:

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/08/2021 20:07

Sunbird and Silkie - Thank you! I have seen neither of the two flowers before and never heard the name Hasenglöckchen. But then I have never been lucky with bulbs.

It's raining here.

Silkiecats · 16/08/2021 20:14

We have lots of bluebells here, often in woods / forest

www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/visiting-woods/things-to-do/woods-through-the-seasons/spring/best-bluebell-woods/

I would imagine they are fairly easy to grow as there are many millions of them in the woods. I think there may be more danger of your garden being taken over by bluebells.

Gingerwarthog · 16/08/2021 22:25

We also have lots of wild bluebells - tends to grow at the same time as wild garlic which is much more pungent and drowns it out.
I like the smell of bluebells (and the cologne) but having washed the floors with it have realised I am probably just as fond of Zoflora ' Midnight Blooms'.

SJaneS49 · 17/08/2021 05:54

Never smelt a bluebell cologne. In my head I would think it would smell something like the floral talcs my grandmother was so fond of dousing herself with (and towards the the end of her life combined with a strong dark undernote of wee!).

Still - as a middle aged woman who struggled to eject 2 children I seem to constantly need the loo myself. Pleasant thought but perhaps this too is my future? But maybe by that point I’ll be past caring!

Love a jacket potato with beans and cheese. So many pubs do get the right cheese and beans amount wrong though which is annoying . Has to be cheese on first too.
