I apologize for sharing my excitement, but .... a post has opened in 2 minutes walking distance. I celebrated by buying stamps.

MissConductUS · 14/08/2021 21:13

I think I'll skip it then Squirrel. I tend to lose the plot when there are complex romantic situations. Frankie Drake Mysteries is turning out to be an easy, fun series to watch. It's about two women detectives in 1920's Toronto.

If you drink tea in the evening, doesn't the caffeine keep you from sleeping?

Wartycat would love tuna - currently on kidney friendly dry food but this may have to be reviewed further as at today's count he only has three teeth.

Champagneforeveryone · 14/08/2021 21:36

I have Emma Bridgewater mugs, DH is a recent convert and we have had a cull of our old mugs to make way for new ones. My favourite is the grasshoppers, but DH and DS routinely choose a different one for me if they make a drink. It seems churlish to point it out so I bravely struggle on.

In boring news we are two loads of laundry in and I am in bed. All was peaceful next door, and it appears that DS has neglected to tell his friends he is home so is also enjoying an early night.

I have to pick ChampagneCat up from the cattery at 8.30 tomorrow. It will be nice to have her home as (despite having DDogs here) the house seems rather quiet without her.

Silkiecats · 14/08/2021 22:05

Well done on the swimming Ginger

Silkiecat loves tuna and is also on a renal diet but pointed out that the vet was just giving her extra food so she still has her tin of tuna a day plus the tuna water, which is the best part of it.

Just had blue cheese and grapes, for lunch had a smoked salmon salad with giant raddish and spring onion. Though I did still manage one doughnut.

We were supposed to be tidying the house more today but all we managed was changing the bed and getting a few things ready for our holiday. Have had an e-mail from the helicopter saying no hard suitcases allowed. I have told DH and DD but expecting them both to appear with hard suitcases. I have packed for DS and there's no danger of him doing any packing so no hard suitcases worry there.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 15/08/2021 08:29

I am back to work tomorrow and only managed to do two of the fun things on my list - the rest was taken up with negotiating teachers, doctors and family. Though I am happy to say that DD's kidneystones do not give her trouble at the moment. Her GP told her that she probably entered into a lifelong commitment.

Champagneforeveryone · 15/08/2021 10:07

I'm in laundry hell, bitterly regretting my purchase of an eco-friendly Bosch washing machine thats shortest cycle is 3 hours long Hmm

In other news, ChampagneCat is home and after three minutes of delight at being home has left through the cat flap in a huff at her abandonment.

DS is cracking on with college work and eating bacon sandwiches, DDogs have a marrowbone each so all is peaceful for the time being.

I have also returned to The Archers, I left during lockdown when they started on the terrible monologues but am now listening to the omnibus while tackling the ironing mountain.

HildaTablet · 15/08/2021 10:40

Oooh, Champagne, don't forget they're going back to 5 episodes and there's actually an Archers episode on a Sunday tonight!

I helped DH get the big ladders out so he could check the gutters for gunk yesterday. My heart is always in my mouth when he does this as I have terrible visions of him missing his footing on a rung and crashing to the ground. Fortunately he didn't, and the gutters were OK too, with minimal gunk to be cleaned out.

I overdid it when grubbing up weeds yesterday and now my shoulder and arm are complaining Sad

HelenaJustina · 15/08/2021 10:44

I only listen to the omnibus, always on a Sunday evening when cleaning the kitchen or doing the ironing. I missed last week’s as we were away so now have the pleasure of two this week.
I have arrived at the supermarket to buy food to stock our empty cupboards/fridge but have not yet summoned the energy to get out of the car. We all got to Mass for 9am and that feat has possibly exhausted me for the remainder of the day!

MissConductUS · 15/08/2021 10:48

Happy Sunday, lovely people of the thread!

I made it home last night about 6:30 and the men did burgers on the grill, which we had with some leftover mac & cheese. This is our last weekend with DS home. Sad

Champagne, I never understood the insanely long wash cycles. How do they save energy when they run so long? When we bought our current Miele I made sure it had a 30 minute "quick wash" cycle, which does a brilliant job getting things clean. When we left one of our cats with a cat sitter while on holiday she would be furious with us when we returned. She refused to interact with us in any way for several days.

I'm up pretty early, so I've fed the cats and opened the windows as it's cool outside. I'm going to exercise, shower, and then do an early supermarket shop, which I couldn't do yesterday thanks to the sodding board meeting.

miss, I'm not entirely sure how it's more economical but my electricity bill has gone down since it's arrival so must work somehow probably witchcraft

Gingerwarthog · 15/08/2021 10:57

Good morning all.
Wartycat, DD and myself are sprawled around the house. I am reading Rebus (and Mumsnet) and DD is reading something about marine animals. This is interspersed with putting the washing on and making coffee.
In other news, I am planning on doing chicken curry for dinner and maybe making rhubarb crumble (again but it is loved in House of Hog). Am also going to try Wartycat with a small helping of tuna. Will let you all know how this goes with my three fanged friend.

Squirrel26 · 15/08/2021 11:05

I'm quite often in the car at Archers time on weeknights, so I listen to it then.

I'm not feeling very inspired this morning. The dog has gone back to bed (he had a very exciting day yesterday involving going to a pub where there were TWO CATS). I need to unload the dishwasher.

MissConductUS · 15/08/2021 11:46

Champagne, I think it's because on the long cycles the machine doesn't heat the water, which uses a lot of electricity. The longer wash cycles help make up for the fact that cold water doesn't clean as well as warm or hot water.

I've finished 30 minutes on the stationary bike and am debating getting back on for another 10 or just getting into the shower. I don't think I'm going to make it to church this morning, but I'm sure She'll understand. Smile

I found that the oblong tin I took on holiday is just wide enough for the sandwich cake I plan to bake.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 15/08/2021 12:32

The marble cake I baked yesterday is gone - I woke up to a small endpiece left on the plate.

MissConductUS · 15/08/2021 12:42

Welcome, @Teaandscone, and thanks for sharing your serendipitous baking news. I had never heard of a sandwich cake, but Google has enlightened me.

I showered and am having some breakfast. The men and cats are all still asleep. I've decided to have an early go at the warehouse club, then the supermarket.

It's my first day of my new placement on the postnatal ward tomorrow. Feeling very nervous!

I've heard women's experiences on the PN ward are quite negative, so I want to do everything I can to make them feel comfortable and supported.

Getting all my bits and bobs ready so I'm not rushing in the morning. My uniform is washed an ironed, got my stethoscope and fob watch ready to go. Loads of pens. Trying to stay calm!

MissConductUS · 15/08/2021 15:51

Welcome, @ripplestitchblank, and thanks for sharing your new placement news. Is this a transfer within your current hospital and what was your prior placement? I suspect a lot of the dissatisfaction on the PN is to do with lack of privacy, noise at night, and mediocre food. But people will forgive a lot if they feel they are getting good nursing care.

Lots of nurses here (in the US) have a fob watch, as it's a traditional gift for graduating nursing school, but you won't see them worn much in practice.

I'm back from my shopping expedition and have lots of food to put away. I think the men are going to mow the lawn.

OP posts:
HelenaJustina · 15/08/2021 18:00

I mowed the lawn this afternoon, having not been done for over a week, it was at least knee high. I’m well overdue a glass of wine and a lie down!

ripplestitchblank · 15/08/2021 18:14

@MissConductUS

I'm a 2nd year student midwife. It's a 50/50 split of time spent in university and clinical placement. Before this my placement was out in the community providing antenatal care in clinics and postnatal care in women's homes.

I'm on long days this week at the hospital, so 7am-8pm, it takes a couple of days for your body to get used to it, so I think an early night tonight will be nice.

Glad to hear your shopping trip went well, I messed up my online shopping order this week. I didn't save it properly so we only got half of what we needed! Such a palaver.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 15/08/2021 21:13

Still recovering after chasing DGS round the petting farm. I was a bit askance at the giant cockroach though.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 15/08/2021 21:19

A student midwife practiced examinations on me and DD 22 years ago, she was learning at the 'Geburtshaus' where I gave birth to my DC. It was interesting to be part of the lessons.

Gingerwarthog · 15/08/2021 21:28

Wartycat delighted with his tuna surprise.
His breath stinks now though....

MissConductUS · 15/08/2021 21:54

Ripple, good luck when you start tomorrow and please let us know how it goes. Smile
