What would you eat for dinner if you had a rare night home alone?

DH is out tomorrow which is a rarity and I'm really looking forward to having a night in to myself, chilling out and watching what I want on TV. I'll need dinner and can't decide what to have. Takeaway is an option, cooking is an option but nothing too time consuming as I'll have beem t work all day.

What would you make? Please inspire me!

I'm doing it now. I have made a tofu + prawn stir fry - new idea but it's delicious if i do say so myself. Also plenty of wine and I picked up a bag of something like 'chocolate and salted caramel' nuts from M&S. I'd be more specific but it's in the kitchen and I can't be bothered to get up.

A bacon and tomato sandwich on toasted sourdough. With some salt and vinegar crisps on the side.

I always buy a fish pie, OH can't stand fish, or the smell of it so I don't buy it generally.

bookbook · 06/08/2021 20:59

Cheese on toast .
I love it , DH doesn't ...

CityCommuter · 06/08/2021 21:04

I'd order a Chinese takeaway - chicken with cashew nuts and yellow bean sauce with egg fried rice and crispy seaweed... yum!

CarolinaWeeper · 06/08/2021 21:19

So, I had baked camembert with garlic and honey, crusty bread, onion chutney and two glasses of red wine. Followed by crisps and some sweets! Feel sick now but I regret nothing Grin.

😄😄 glad to hear it!

I’m lucky in that my DH loves food just as much as I do and is a great cook too so we eat very well indeed as a matter of routine.

But there’s something really nice about sitting down on your own to eat something that’s ALL FOR YOU!

canary1 · 06/08/2021 21:34

Would have bottle of Prosecco for dinner, if they ever left me alone for an evening 🙄😂

mamaduckbone · 06/08/2021 21:43

Either a picky tea (nice bread, olives, cheese etc., which no one else would class as a proper meal) or mushroom risotto - lots of butter, lots of Parmesan, big glass of white wine whilst stirring it.

mamaduckbone · 06/08/2021 21:46

@omgthepain

I'd order duck snd pancakes from the Chinese and have the whole lot to myself 🤣
Or this.
CMSdividend · 06/08/2021 22:50

Good choice OP Grin

PiddleOfPuppies · 06/08/2021 22:58

Great decision, OP. My meal is choice when I'm alone is a bowl of curry flavour supernoodles, a tube of Pringles and a packet of jazzies (white chocolate buttons with 100s and 1000s on top). All stuff DH sneers at and would be horrified to know I'd had it in the house.

MountainDweller · 06/08/2021 23:46

Great decision OP!

I might have been swung by the recent crispy duck pancakes suggestion, but can't get them here Sad

Sarahlou63 · 06/08/2021 23:50

A massive toad in the hole, filled with brussel sprouts and onion gravy. Heaven.

drigon · 07/08/2021 00:02

Baked beans on tiger bread with plenty of better.

drigon · 07/08/2021 00:02

Toasted tiger bread, obviously

SunsetView · 07/08/2021 00:04

Toast
Or a marks and Spencer ready meal

SunsetView · 07/08/2021 00:05

** has to be the marks & Spencer. Macaroni

Kralia · 07/08/2021 00:05

Steak with pasta and mushroom and asparagus cream sauce! Steak is too expensive for 5 of us, so we rarely eat it, but if I'm on my own, well, it's a fiver very well spent Grin

Freshapples · 07/08/2021 00:09

I'd either go to M&S or Cook and treat myself to a posh ready meal (most things taste better when you haven't cooked them yourself) - or I'd make something simple, creamy / cheesy at home (the kind of foods that I love but DH hates, so I don't often make them).

You need to try the m & s “ best ever” range macaroni cheese
PastMyBestBeforeDate · 07/08/2021 00:57

I do a thing with curried beans. DH really doesn't like it. It's my first choice if he's not eating with me. I always have the ingredients in.

noblegreenk · 07/08/2021 01:12

Ready meal. If I'm on my own I see it as an opportunity to not have to properly cook. Although I will get one of the posher ones from M&S or the high end supermarket range.

Houseofvelour · 07/08/2021 01:15

I'd order in a Chinese or Indian and then eat it in front of the tv with my pjs on 😍
