What would you eat for dinner if you had a rare night home alone?

DH is out tomorrow which is a rarity and I'm really looking forward to having a night in to myself, chilling out and watching what I want on TV. I'll need dinner and can't decide what to have. Takeaway is an option, cooking is an option but nothing too time consuming as I'll have beem t work all day.

What would you make? Please inspire me!

White wine.

Pegasusmail · 05/08/2021 21:38

I would cook a pepperoni pizza so easy and no washing up and wine 🍕🍕🍕🍕

thelegohooverer · 05/08/2021 21:38

Either a packet of biscuits or a decent takeaway curry.

Boiled egg and buttery soldiers.

Or a crisp sandwich 🙈

Clevs · 05/08/2021 21:43

I would have something that I really enjoy but don't have anymore my husband won't eat it. So probably shellfish or Thai food. Even better, a Thai shellfish dish with loads of mussels, squid and prawns😋

kowari · 05/08/2021 21:43

Pan fried salmon with baby leaf salad and cherry tomatoes.

GrouchyKiwi · 05/08/2021 21:44

Poached eggs on toast with tomatoes and spinach.

But in reality I'd more likely eat a packet of crisps. Grin

Enjoy your evening alone!

AGirlCalledJohnny · 05/08/2021 21:44

Couple of really good cheeses, fancy crackers, with chilli jam or hot honey and a good Bordeaux. Some dark chocolate for after. That would never satisfy my DH but I could live on it Grin

Duck in plum sauce, Singapore noodles and some sticky ribs. With a nice white wine.
That I actually get to eat without anyone saying "ohh duck! Give us a bit half when they have ordered chilli squid which I hate.
Or if I had to actually cook - a really good steak, medium rare, salad and sourdough bread with a good red wine. Followed by the cheeseboard from heaven.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 05/08/2021 21:46

Prawns. DH is extremely tiresome about them, yet will eat scampi 😑. There are no words, really; good job I love him

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 05/08/2021 21:47

I would also go for Thai, Vietnamese, seafood or something garlicky

itsgettingwierd · 05/08/2021 21:47

A load of crap and feel bloated and bothered afterwards 🤦‍♀️🤣

bumblingbovine49 · 05/08/2021 21:47

@femfemlicious

Juicy steak with shop bought mash avocado and tomato salad
Me too ( the steak anyway not the mash, I'd have roast potatoes or chips instead)

Mostly because I live with a vegetarian DS and a pescatarian DH so I eat red meat about 2x a year if that

itsgettingwierd · 05/08/2021 21:48

Sorry posted too soon.

So hot bread, pate, cheese, grapes and probably some ridiculously sweet dessert like treacle sponge with custard and cream.

I'd never eat all that usually and rarely eat puddings ever.

kerkyra · 05/08/2021 21:49

My last rare night home alone, I had a jar of lloyd Grossman tomato and chilli sauce with spaghetti and loads of grated cheese on top.

NotThatSocial · 05/08/2021 21:51

Indian takeaway without a doubt!

KatherineSiena · 05/08/2021 21:52

Scrambled eggs on toast and some roasted tomatoes. White wine, several glasses. Bliss.

CarrieMoonbeams · 05/08/2021 21:54

A family bag of Chilli Heatwave Doritos ("sharing bag" my arse!), smothered in grated cheese, nuked in the microwave for a minute. Followed by the biggest bar of Dairy Milk marvellous creations popping candy. And a pint of milk, then a glass of wine. The meal of champions!!

I say that as someone who loves cooking, and cooks from scratch nearly every night - but every so often, it's so good to go feral!

HappyDaysToCome · 05/08/2021 21:56

Spaghetti on toast with cheese on top! Used to be a staple pre DH. We have to have proper meals nowadays.

ForeverInADay · 05/08/2021 22:01

I have my first 2 nights alone in YEARS next week! (No DH or kids).

I am having:

  • Night 1: Boiled egg sandwiches (with salad cream and salt/pepper) on Tiger Bread (Gluten free variety sadly)
  • Night 2: Fillet steak cooked medium with veg

I'm on a diet but I will save calories for these!

WeAreTheWeirdosMister · 05/08/2021 22:01

Frozen dumplings, fry the whole bag in a bit of oil until underside is brown, then chuck in a cup of water or stock and put lid on for 5 mins to steam.
Serve with dip made from soy sauce, lemon juice and sesame oil.

Perfect munching infront of tv fodder.

I'd get a slice of lemon meringue pie for pudding Cake

JulesCobb · 05/08/2021 22:02

A salad and a packet of crisps.

Or, more realistically, half a bottle of wine and a bottle of crisps.

Dh does all the cooking.

JulesCobb · 05/08/2021 22:03

Packet of crisps i meant. Not bottle. Blush I’ve had several bottles of beer tonights would you believe…

LadyCluck · 05/08/2021 22:06

Baked Camembert with warm crusty bread and a couple of glasses of red wine followed by Ben and Jerry’s chocolate brownie ice cream.

CarolinaWeeper · 05/08/2021 22:07

I am very tempted by the cheese board suggestions.....and the Chinese takeaway. Or maybe just a massive bag of Doritos and some chocolate. Hmmm, decisions.
