What would you eat for dinner if you had a rare night home alone?

DH is out tomorrow which is a rarity and I'm really looking forward to having a night in to myself, chilling out and watching what I want on TV. I'll need dinner and can't decide what to have. Takeaway is an option, cooking is an option but nothing too time consuming as I'll have beem t work all day.

What would you make? Please inspire me!

This was me tonight.I had salami,rocket,onion and cherry tomato pizza,mixed salad and chips delivered.Yum.

MintyCedric · 05/08/2021 22:35

BBQ ribs, chunky chips, coleslaw

Or fish as DD isn't a fan and I love it...last night I had sticky chilli and ginger salmon with stir fry veg and salmon.

When I lived on my own prior to getting married, Friday night was my indulgent night in...I always had a chicken breast stuffed with Boursin and wrapped in bacon, jacket potato with lashings of butter, baby corn, broccoli and asparagus.

A massive grilled mushroom with some St Agur crumbled on it, because no one else in my house eats mushrooms or blue cheese.

Other than that, probably toast or one of those packet pasta things, which I know are crap but which give me a bit of nostalgia for my student days.

I love a picnic too (basically buy most of a deli counter and bakery).

Or Indian take away. Really fancy a veg biryani plus a lot sides (sag aloo, Chana dal, pickle tray etc).

waterlego · 05/08/2021 22:38

Oooh yes, picnic of deli and bakery bits is a good shout too.

SkankingMopoke · 05/08/2021 22:39

I'd have a batch of Yorkshire puddings (makes about 12 small ones) with homemade onion gravy and English mustard.
Or possibly macaroni cheese.

Both choices are highly nutritious and balanced meals Grin

TrampolineForMrKite · 05/08/2021 22:39

Big, fat Chinese takeaway. Fat coke. Punnet of raspberries to finish.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 05/08/2021 22:43

@idontlikealdi

Steak sandwich, or a platter of things - cured meat/ deli bits / cheese etc
Yup.

Rare. Chargrilled on the outside. Rocket and horseradish.

Yummo.

Passthecake30 · 05/08/2021 22:45

A jacket potato with a salmon fillet on the top, with lots of lemon and butter on top. In a bowl.
With wine, then some bbq pop chips and then Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, straight from the tub.

omgthepain · 05/08/2021 22:46

I'd order duck snd pancakes from the Chinese and have the whole lot to myself 🤣

HierarchyOfNeeds · 05/08/2021 22:48

Steak and mushrooms, with hand cut sautéed potatoes. Yum!

Mantlemoose · 05/08/2021 22:49

Cheesy pasta out of a packet - you know, the orange stuff with hot buttered toast. Or a really large bar of chocolate.

beela · 05/08/2021 22:52

Crisps & wine.

I love cooking but dh always wants a full meal in the evening and sometimes I would just like to not bother.

Leftbutcameback · 05/08/2021 22:54

I agree with the cheese and biscuits, maybe a baked camembert. Nice wine, and then some chocolates or macaroons or baklava

RoseMartha · 05/08/2021 22:54

I dont have a dp but if the kids are having dinner at their dads i do something like toasted cheese sandwich and salad or just salad or omelette and salad or left over mince and pasta and salad or veg.

Leftbutcameback · 05/08/2021 22:54

Or a chip butty for the win

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 05/08/2021 22:56

Dh works away sometimes. My go to meals are;
Cauliflower cheese
Cheese and biscuits
Chicken and mushroom pot noodle
A bar of chocolate

I love not bothering to cook properly.

MountainDweller · 05/08/2021 22:59

I had a rare night to myself last week - got an Indian takeaway as DH doesn't like it. Butter chicken, pilau rice and popadoms. Was going to have a posh ready meal but upgraded and it was delicious!

If I wasn't in the mood for Indian I'd cook a cheese omelette or macaroni cheese as he doesn't like those either. He used to work away and I had 4 nights a week of eating whatever I fancied... it was heaven (I missed him really Grin).

Durbeyfield · 05/08/2021 23:03

Porridge (I’m a bit odd though)

Years ago I used to get cod and chips from the chippy, garnished with a pickled onion, and a video from the Blockbuster shop when he went away. Happy days.

justasking111 · 05/08/2021 23:03

@Pinkchocolate

A ready meal lasagne. I always cook fresh so I would want something I can chuck in the oven and do nothing.
Me too. OH hates lasagne
Bakewellisntjustacake · 05/08/2021 23:03

Hard day cba? Beans and sausages on toast or hash browns.

Normal day? Something he won't like

Friday night? Fish and chips!!

MountainDweller · 05/08/2021 23:04

@Thehogfatherstolemycurry I'd have exactly the same as you except I'd swap the pot noodle for a cheese omelette (more cheese!!!) or an Indian takeaway (I'm gluten free)

MountainDweller · 05/08/2021 23:06

And now it's bedtime and I want to eat a lot of delicious things!

pistachioicecream · 05/08/2021 23:10

@actiongirl1978

Toast. I hate cooking every night and dread the decision making.

I also don't care about eating in the evening so toast or maybe cereal is my dream dinner.

This. Cereal or toast. Or at a push beans on toast if I was really hungry.

Sounds perfect. Can’t be bothered with the faff or washing up if just me!

DwangelaForever · 05/08/2021 23:10

Chinese takeaway as my dh hates it!!
