Liz Jones's ex wrote a pulverising article about their marriage yesterday.

I couldn't blame him really, as she writes about him nearly every week in really dismissive terms, and there are always 2 sides to a story.
She always describes lavishing him with expensive gifts and how rotten, lazy and ungrateful he was, but he actually walked away with no money at all - to his credit as at that time she was very well paid.

He writes: My ex is the newspaper columnist Liz Jones who, during our time together, turned her one-sided take on our relationship into a lucrative industry, churning out thousands of articles. I still appear in her work now, despite not speaking to her in 12 years. I came to live in a gilded Islington cage, lavished with unrequested gifts, and holidays as Liz spent some of the fortune she made from writing about me – mostly derisively – no doubt in the hope that I wouldn’t leave.
Our marriage was doomed from our wedding day: an occasion I felt swindled into, having never proposed. She arranged it without my knowledge; I found out when I discovered a receipt for the country estate. Confronted with it, she declared she’d already told the world in her column – which I no longer read – and would look a fool. She then broke down in tears, robbing me of my anger as I comforted her and agreed.
Having been depicted as little more than a gigolo, I forwent a small fortune that would have given me stability, and have lived a financially precarious life since. Naively, I had hoped she would stop pouring scorn on me in print, but she has continued to do so, banking cheque after cheque in the process.

Her writing, of course, never gave any sense of my vulnerability. The working-class product of an immigrant home wracked by alcoholism, violence and insolvency, I was, in my 20s, always going to fall under the spell of a wealthy older woman who promised me a lifestyle and security that I’d never imagined for myself'.

Just goes to show that there are always 2 sides to every story, and while Jones always portrays herself as a victim, the truth is more nuanced.

It sounds as if they deserved each other

Her column is so boring. It hasn't changed in all the time she has written it.

She once slagged her husband off for having supermarket brand toiletries and she preferred kiehls

She wrote about everything wrong with him but didn't write about his main bugbear...her writing about him.

Oh he's not shy and vulnerable. Rather the opposite. Full of himself and with an eye for the ladies.

She’s always come across as completely self obsessed, and I always felt sorry for her H. He obviously wasn’t perfect but my god, booking a wedding without the agreement of your spouse, is one of the most controlling things I’ve ever heard!

I also remember the way she spoke about her mother, she was always so horrible about her, and her “little” life.

Shes just not a nice person.

I got very bored with her column years ago.
Reading about him just confirmed that he’s no better than her and oh dear, what a surprise, he’s just written a book.

She has always come across as manipulative and shallow. She has the money to access the best possible therapy for her anorexia but still needs to work more on herself.

I seem to remember that she wrote about going to his hotel in Italy, and how he took a female back to her flat when she wasn’t there.

I always thought it was nuts she was so chewed up over it. Around about the same time she split up from him, I escaped an abusive x with 2 dc and I relocated and was on benefits for years. I still seemed to get over it quicker.

So, is this the guy that fucked loads of women behind her back? And said that one of the reasons they split was because she couldn’t stop writing about him, in derogatory fashion, in her newspaper column? I only that, of course, because of the amount of times he’s written about her, in derogatory fashion, in his, er newspaper articles. She used her womanly wiles to ensnare him did she, lavishing unwanted gifts and a lavish lifestyle upon him (I paraphrase his words there). She might be nice, she might be not nice, dunno. But he sounds like a right pillock. Still if he’s getting paid for this article about her, sounds like she’s still picking up the bill…….

Yes, originally I thought she was the middle-aged version of Bridget Jones but apparently not.

When I first read some of her columns I didn’t think they were for real, a bit like a Private Eye take on the tabloids.

What does he mean by 'I forwent a small fortune that would have given me stability'? Is he talking about alimony?

Read an interview with him not long after they split, and he sounded a whining mess. Jones is an odd character who inhabits and works in a world she purports to despise, and which she says has damaged her and fed her own body dysmorphia and anorexia. Why???

Have you listened to LJ's podcast. I think it's meant to be funny but it's unbearable. As is her side kick who just agrees with LJ constantly. They have the most grating voices too, both of them.
