Have you ever had a terrible hair cut and told the hairdresser you hated it?

If so how did you do it?

I remember years ago getting an awful cut and colour at Toni & Guy - my hair was uneven and dark grey not blonde! And I said it was lovely, paid £159, left and cried 🤣 my boyfriend at the time went in the next day to sort it because I was embarrassed.

I never get my hair done differently now as I think I'd die of embarrassment if I had to tell them I didn't like it!

Once. I’ve got curly hair, I went in with below shoulder length curly hair, I came out looking like an 80’s Kevin Keagan. I told them it was awful, it was so bad I couldn’t hide it on my face. I also didn’t pay. The manager of the salon obviously saw that I looked like an 80s footballer & didn’t push it when I said I was t going to pay.

I was 15 and went in and asked for lowlights to make my hair darker. She gave me highlights and my hair went an awful bronze colour. I was really upset when I got home and my mum rang them and told them and asked could they fix it. She told them I asked for highlights and was brisk and banged everything around when I went in the next day and kept saying 'you want it darker right?' as if I'd gotten it wrong. I sat nearly crying and apologised over and over again. Didn't go to any hairdressers for years after that

To I & Guy are shit. Have had some good stylists, there, but despite who they work for, rather than because of who they work for and never at the salon in my home town. 8 8

Toni and Guy did a horrible job but wouldn't accept they had done nothing like what I had asked for. I was in tears.

Once. I used to have very short hair, pixie cut, for several years. One time the hairdresser put a parting in as she was cutting it. It was only when I got home & had washed it that I realised that I realised she'd cut it shorter on one side than the other. Looked good, absolute nightmare to style, I had to get the parting in exactly the same place every time or it looked an absolute pig. I went back the next Monday morning before my shift at work, with it freshly washed & no product on, & demonstrated how impractical it was. They literally sat me down with the head stylist & sorted it on the spot, (lucky she wasn't busy right then!) & gave me a refund.

HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 30/07/2021 23:39

No, but I've given one BlushGrin

Showed the customer her hair and she told me that's not what she wanted, she wants it more feathered In etc and not enough cut off. I fixed it and she was happy. That was an easy one though, everything except cutting too short can be fixed, so my advice is always say your complaints, stylist wont mind. Easier said than done I know.

It’s the joy of curly hair - always one cut away from a footballer perm Grin
pegboardsu · 31/07/2021 00:40

Oh yes... a couple of years ago. I had even shown photographs of how I wore my hair and the same style on other women, as I wasn't feeling overly confident in my language skills.

I even commented half way that it was shaping up to be considerably shorter than I had requested. The manager came out, finished the cut and even offered me a (free) perm! I declined.

They didn't charge me... which I am pleased about as I did spend the last ten minutes trying to work out what to do if they asked for payment.

It was not at all what I had asked for, plus it was a truly awful cut. Luckily I have a thick head of hair which grows very fast, and I wore a lot of hair accessories until it grew enough to have it reshaped.

Curlymam88 · 31/07/2021 00:44

I remember when I was a young kid about 8ish my mother took me to the hairdressers and the hairdresser asked me at the end of my cut all chuffed if I liked it and I just said....no!!! My mother was mortified she gave me a huge telling off. Still remember this.

TheWashingMachine · 31/07/2021 03:48

Awful colour job in my 20s, it was red, I'd wanted a few highlights, I burst into tears at the end of the appointment and said I would have to invest in a baseball cap.

Silkiecats · 31/07/2021 03:55

As a child my Mum decided to pay for a perm and I had to show the hairdresser what I wanted. I showed a picture of a long haired perm. The hairdresser then cut my hair really short which I hate but my Mum always asked for. Then when they permed it, it barely came to my ears and I had to make a speech for English GCSE that evening in front of 200 people and I burst into tears. It did look awful. Normally I just smile, pay and think in 2 weeks this will look better.

HummingBeeBox · 31/07/2021 03:57

Me and my mum went round to a recommended local hairdressers house in the 90s. My mum has curly hair and she lopped her hair off in a straight line above her shoulders and added a fringe. She looked like a curly Cleopatra! She then proceeded to cut mine dry, straight out of a ponytail. It was worse than I could have done myself and I was 13!

We didn't say we liked it and she was red in the face and looked panicked. She did charge us and we just left. I remember sitting in the car crying with laughter at my mums hair.

2 fat ladies?
Youvegotafriendinme · 31/07/2021 04:42

I’ve recently had a new hairdresser come to my house. Hadn’t had my hair done in about 18 months and I’d just had a baby and was a bit nervous. Told her I wanted about 4 inches cut off (I had waist length hair.) she proceeded to pull my hair band down a bit and cut it off dry. My hair was at my shoulder blades. Then, when she showed me the colour at the end it was a very odd orange colour and about an inch from my roots. I’d asked For blonde. I’d shown her photos. We had gone over colours before hand. I stupidly said thank you I love it and let her leave but a few days later told her I didn’t actually like it and got her back to fix it and giving her the benefit of the doubt. 3 hours later and I have white hair. Again, colour an inch from my root and so very badly done it looked like my 4 year old had done it. I couldn’t hide my shock and asked her what the hell she had done. She Tried blaming my hair and the fact it hadn’t been done in a while. I got my money back but I was so angry and then embarrassed the next day on the school run, I wore DH baseball hat!
Thankfully I’ve had it fixed and now have a good hairdresser but I’m
Starting to think that lady wasn’t even qualified!

silentpool · 31/07/2021 04:46

I had a very bad dye job. I warned them my hair takes on dye strongly. They touched up my roots so they were black with hot roots, as well. Then we did foils which were over-processed. I looked like a bumblebee. I went back in the next day, worked up my courage and told them I needed it fixed. They did without complaint. I still go to that salon but not to the same hairdresser.

ShopTattsyrup · 31/07/2021 05:28

Recently enjoyed some truly terrible styling, curly hair which the hairdresser cut too many short layers and put so much mousse on at the end that I left looking like a wet Phil Spector.

I made her rewash it to get all the mousse off and made it clear that if that didn't fix the issue I wouldn't be paying, the shocked and worried looks I had seen on her colleagues faces as she applied more and more product while wielding the diffuser told me that they were all thinking the same as me.

Fortunately it was fixable and I left looking a bit more Leo Sayer than I would have liked but at least not like a convicted paedophile

Starlitexpress · 31/07/2021 05:53

Long time ago at a posh hairdressers, hated it, got told I looked like Princess Diana, I burst into tears, she might have been some peoples style icon but I was 20 and wanted to look like a rock chick, not some frumpy sloane ranger!

lovablequalities · 31/07/2021 06:00

Yes. About 20 years ago and I will never forget it. I wept and wept. Went back the next day and the manager/head stylist tried to fix it. The only thing he could do was to cut it shorter. I was absolutely scalped. That was the last time I ever wore glasses to the hairdresser. Now always contact lenses and I watch them like a hawk! (Different hairdresser now obviously!)

RainbowCrayons · 31/07/2021 10:03

I had a terrible Groupon haircut gifted to me by a thoughtful but misguided DH. They dyed my hair far too dark, cut it so it hung limp and then tried to cover it up with tones of argan oil. My hair it too fine for argan oil (or at least that much of it) so it just made me look like Snape! I didn't trust them to fix it though so I didn't say a word to them and ended up going straight to my usual salon to get it sorted.

whereislittleroo · 31/07/2021 11:11

Argh this is me right now. It looked nice in the salon but since washing and styling it myself I've realised the layers are crooked and too chunky. Plus I'm due for a full head of foils and the underneath is too dark so makes the cut look even worse. Trouble
Is, hairdresser is my friend and an absolutely lovely person so I'm not sure how to tell her I hate it. I'm so upset as my hair was lovely and long and now I will print have to chop a good chunk off tho even it all up.

Noshowlomo · 31/07/2021 11:15

I didn’t tell them I hated it but I did… and that was Toni and Guy as well. God awful and the hairdresser was a knob.

SweatyBetty20 · 31/07/2021 11:22

I have curly hair which I usually straighten. I wanted a short blunt bob and came out with one of those Karen cuts even though I stressed several times that I did not want a concave short bit at the back of my head - I wanted to still be able to tie it back as I was off trekking in Nepal for 3 weeks and wouldn’t be able to wash it as any showers we may have had access to would be frozen. I ended up trekking with essentially a short haircut with Hasidic type tendrils at the front and spent the holiday avoiding cameras.

RedLemonadeNTaytos · 31/07/2021 11:28

I have a Toni & Guy take of work, too. They opened a salon on my high street about 15 years ago and I booked in for my first haircut since my DC1 had been born a year earlier, as I was going back to work and wanted to look fresh.

Pushy stylist decided my long, thick, one length hair needed ‘updating’ with some layers. I’m not joking, I ended up looking like a member of the 80s metal band Whitesnake. I can’t believe I actually paid…and thanked her!

Cried my eyes out when I got home and
