Bring your worries over here, the Night Shift are still here to mind them

New thread here, since the Last Thread has ever so slowly filled up. Isn't it amazing how little our worries crept up in the night when the world was actually one big worry?

Pandemic or not, this is the place to just park your worries. We don't ask questions, or try to solve your problems. We just hold them, tenderly, carefully, until you are strong enough to take them back. If they choose not to come back, all the better.

Signing in for the Night Shift, V3!
@CormoranStrike that must have been upsetting to hear. It’s over now. Get some sleep and leave the feelings on this thread.
Thank you. Phone going down now, I’ll read a bit then sleep.

DidSomebodySaySiamese · 24/07/2021 01:32

Can I leave some complex worries that I can’t write down with someone tonight please? Not sure if anyone can mind that sort of thing.

tunnocksreturns2019 · 24/07/2021 01:34

DidSomebodySaySiamese I’ve got them. Put them down. Rest - your unconscious mind may well do some useful sifting and sorting. I hope you sleep well

2018SoFarSoGreat · 24/07/2021 01:38

@DidSomebodySaySiamese you don't have to write them down. Just leave them right here, and @tunnocksreturns2019 and I shall hold them so that you can rest. Nothing to worry about now; we've got it for you.

Thanks Tunnocks the unconscious sifting and sorting that comes from rest is now what I think I need. Goodnight.

DidSomebodySaySiamese · 24/07/2021 01:43

@2018SoFarSoGreat I feel so tired now. Thank you

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/07/2021 02:00

Thanks for last night my poppets. It was great.

Suchatiredpigeon · 24/07/2021 02:13

Didn't know this thread existed! I am on the night shift and happy to take any worries.
Hoping the lovely breeze we have here is making its way to all those struggling with the heat too. Someone once suggested to me putting the gel cooling mats for dogs under your sheets.. never did get to try it as the dog promptly ate hers!

HelloDaisy · 24/07/2021 02:24

Cani join you all this evening please?

We are camping this weekend in Dorset and I’m lying in bed listening to the torrential rain with occasional thunder and lightning so no way will I get any sleep tonight! Dh and dc are all asleep.

I am considering moving into the car in the hope that I can watch the rain and might then drift off…

Suchatiredpigeon · 24/07/2021 02:26

Watching the rain sounds lovely and peaceful ☺️

HelloDaisy · 24/07/2021 02:33

Yes I think that is a much better option instead of lying in bed just listening and wondering what’s going on outside my tent…

We are camping with friends so I’m hoping they have been washed away!

StCharlotte · 24/07/2021 02:51

I'm so glad I found this thread tonight although I've never been on it before but I've often admired it. I'm minding my husband's worries tonight. He's had a torrid time at work lately being innocently caught in the crossfire between two colleagues. Now's he's on a long-awaited weekend away with some lads and his brother has fucked up (drunk) and is currently awaiting an ambulance but not before he's tried to have a go at DH. There's so much more but I can't really compute at the moment. They were so close but now I fear they're broken. I'm so so sad for him and he's in bits.

Anyway. I'm wide awake so if anyone else needs their worries minding, I'm here.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 24/07/2021 03:06

Hello @HelloDaisy. Camping in the pouring rain did not sound good until @Suchatiredpigeon suggested just watching it. You can do that, and let any stress just wash away. And sleep. Sounds lovely!

@StCharlotte oh dear. That sounds awful. Sorry for your poor DH and for you, dealing with the aftermath. When you are ready, just unload the Worry and leave it here. We will hold it. You get some rest.

2018SoFarSoGreat thank you. I think I'll have another cup of tea and then go back to bed knowing my problem is being cared for Smile

harverina · 24/07/2021 03:18

Hi everyone, I hope so much that you are all managing to sleep now.

I can’t sleep. My mum passed away 5 weeks ago and I miss her so very much. Today we went to pick the headstone for her grave and I think that’s why I am so unsettled. I have been sleepy but don’t seem to want to let myself fall asleep - which I know sounds so silly.

I will no doubt be up all night or most of the night.

Suchatiredpigeon · 24/07/2021 03:20

I am a firm believer that a cup of tea cures all ills ☺️ sometimes it's just the process of making it that can clear the head and give you some breathing space.
Things will look better in the morning when emotions aren't quite so high.

Suchatiredpigeon · 24/07/2021 03:23

Oh no, that sounds so hard. It's understandable you are unsettled, consider your worries parked in the worry jar my end to look after for the night ☺️

A puzzle book sometimes helps me clear my head, as I can never get the crossword clues, but it gives my brain something small and trivial to focus on as a break from the bigger things life throws my way

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 24/07/2021 03:45

@harverina I’ve got you too.

Honestly, I posted a few nights ago worrying about a talk with my boss. I normally sleep terribly.

I slept so well thanks to my worry minders, and the talk went so well I got a pay rise!!

@RyanAirVeteran thank you so very much for this thread idea. I’ve only just found this one and feel so grateful. Hope all is going well with you?

Enko · 24/07/2021 04:12

We are moving on Thursday
I have a entire house to pack down. I'm not happy about the move and it all stinks a bit. Tonight I cant sleep dh and the kids are all fast asleep I'm in the lounge w ddog who is so sleeping but at least gave me a snuggle

Hannayeah · 24/07/2021 04:40

I’ll take that off your mind @enko. Try to get some rest. I moved a year ago and it’s all in the rear view mirror now.

Hannayeah · 24/07/2021 04:43

@harverina. Sending you hugs. Try to rest.

Sosad101 · 24/07/2021 04:55

I’m reading in tears. My dad is dying. I’m almost sure he has stage 4 lung cancer. We’ll find out on Thursday but everyone is trying to prepare me for the worst. Later today I have to go and see him and my mum and start preparing them. My dad is 91 and has lived an amazing life with good health but it is still so bloody hard to see him going before my eyes. My DDs are devastated particularly my nine year old. She is so sensitive and has had a lot to deal with this year with DH also being diagnosed with MS (fortunately he is ok and please God will continue to be well for decades to come) and our lovely dog dying. She told me this evening she doesn’t know how much more she can cope with.
I also have to break the news of my dad to my brother, who lives thousand of miles away.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 24/07/2021 05:02

@Sosad101 that's such sad, hard news to learn, to share, to bear. I'm so sorry. 💐

For now, please let us hold a bit of your pain and fear. We can lift your load so that you can get some rest. You'll need to sleep to keep up your strength.

We will be here whenever you need us.

Gosh I feel awful writing this as it’s really not that bad at all! But I’m in tears. My best friend offered to sit with my 2week old newborn so I could get a decent sleep in (various DC all been isolating off school last 3 weeks so not able to sleep when baby sleeps) and DH gets up at 2 when best friend goes home and makes a tonne of noise, wakes me up, brings baby to me and says he needs sleep and that I’ve had 4 hours which is plenty. Go downstairs with baby and best friend has left poop nappies out which the dog has opened and there’s poo all over the carpet.
I’m more tired than I was before. I’d pumped and prepped so much and was so so looking forward to some sleep but now I just feel worse.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 24/07/2021 05:20

@StickyThighs well that's just a darned shame. Horrible gift to find after your sleep. I'm sorry!

Congrats on the new baby 💐
