Settle an argument putting fuel in the car

What is the correct way to fill the car up?

1 - fill it til it clicks, or you get bored.

OR

2 - fill it til the £ is a round number. Go to the next round number of you go over.

Until it clicks for me!

But then I dont work off a budget for fuel, so I imagine those who do would be more inclined to look at the cost

Whattodo1610 · 17/07/2021 10:37

Your username is apt …

fedup078 · 17/07/2021 10:39

Depends how much money you have
If I'm feeling flush then til it clicks
If not then yes I try and round it to £10 or £20 etc and getting annoyed if I get £20.01 😂

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 17/07/2021 10:39

Until it clicks , then pull the nozzle out a little and put some more in until I can literally see the petrol sitting at the top

Gertie75 · 17/07/2021 10:42

I'm on a budget so usually put £20 in, if it goes over by a few pence I'm not bothered x

ifoundthebread · 17/07/2021 10:43

Till it clicks then keep putting little bits in to round it up to the closest pound 😂

wanderedlonelyasacloud · 17/07/2021 10:43

Generally until it clicks off but if it's the week before payday and we've had some bigger bills that month then I might stop it at a rounded number. If I went a penny over I wouldnt bother going to the next number I'd just leave it.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 17/07/2021 10:44

Fill until it clicks. I remember the old days when cash was still the most usual form of payment and I used to try for a round number then.

Now that I have a PHEV putting petrol in is a very rare thing anyway, I filled it in mid-December and then filled it again in mid-June, which cost me just over €33. Grin

TyneTeas · 17/07/2021 10:45
  1. Til it clicks and then up to to the next full litre - .00
PeonyTime · 17/07/2021 10:45

Til it clicks, the slowly top up, ideally to the nearest pound, but sometimes nearest .50

TheQueef · 17/07/2021 10:45

10 clicks to make sure.
Had a Japanese car when I was younger, you couldn't trust the clicks.
Since then I can't get out of the habit Blush

PivotPivotPivottt · 17/07/2021 10:46

I'm on a budget so the most I've ever done is £30. I didn't know there was such thing as a click Blush

isettled · 17/07/2021 10:46

Round number to the nearest 10p although I prefer it to be to the £

DH does it til it clicks once and I don't let him fill up my car

Chunkymenrock · 17/07/2021 10:46

@haveanicefuckingday, that's a really bad idea to fill it so full. Petrol can release more fumes, especially in hot weather and so take up a greater space. The clicks are there for a reason, for safety because of this!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 17/07/2021 10:46

neither.
you keep filling it despite the approximate 38753 clicks because there's a problem nobody seems to be able to fix.
The rage it induces lasts all day so typically that's my coffee free day

twinkletwankle · 17/07/2021 10:47

Til it clicks then in small increments until BOTH litres and pounds measurements end in an even number Grin then it will be a full tank of good luck!

EssentialHummus · 17/07/2021 10:48

Neither - I can’t remember the PIN number on my work bank card, so I fill up until and only until the contactless limit Grin.

DrFoxtrot · 17/07/2021 10:49

Wow I've hardly ever filled until it clicks! Usually £30-40 each time. I like a round number but don't mind if it isn't.

4PawsGood · 17/07/2021 10:49

Till it clicks if you can afford it. Saves you having to do it a bit longer.

BeepBoopBop · 17/07/2021 10:49

@ifoundthebread

Till it clicks then keep putting little bits in to round it up to the closest pound 😂

Yep! The same.

AlwaysLatte · 17/07/2021 10:49

Till it clicks. Fewer trips overall! I've gone electric now though, am not missing the fuel stops (though I got funny looks when I pulled up at pump recently before I got my lawnmower can out of the car!)

KnightandDay · 17/07/2021 10:49

Depends... if I know I'm going on a long journey I'll fill till it clicks, if I'm only planning on staying local I'll put €10 in (but inevitably ends up at €10.01, which I hate!)

OldTinHat · 17/07/2021 10:49

I can't afford to fill my car so put in £20 every other month and hope for the best.

Vinorosso74 · 17/07/2021 10:50

Generally a round amount, we have an Aygo with pretty low fuel consumption so £20/£25/£30. If we're doing a long journey then fill it to the brim.

AlwaysLatte · 17/07/2021 10:50

It's all a bit pointless if you then go and buy anything in the shop though!
