I just got this email from my daughters school, apparently a lot of schools are doing it by what I've seen on Facebook today!

Is your school letting kids come to school late on Monday?

Ridiculous.

Party hard, work hard. Not a school I would like to send my kids to, doesn't set the bar very high does it?

If it's important to you to watch the footie, by all means dc do, but don't mope around in the morning when it's time to go to school. Tough luck, early night on Monday and Tuesday should put things right.

The apostrophe misuse Angry

Wankerchief · 09/07/2021 15:05

Learning opportunity 😂

Does it really matter missing the last Monday morning if term?

The papers are calling for a full bank holiday.

DonLewis · 09/07/2021 15:07

Yes. I think it's pragmatic.

My son will want to stay up and will be horribly tired if he goes to bed that late and has to be at school at 8.40.

AnotherDayAnotherCake · 09/07/2021 15:07

Nope. Just another way of dividing children up into those that are ‘allowed’ to stay up until 11pm and roll in late and then those that aren’t.
So glad our school isn’t doing this.

Whatwouldscullydo · 09/07/2021 15:07

Urgh.

They failed to say its only the mens team that hasn't made it in 55 years.

And yes mine are allowed in later.

Purple21 · 09/07/2021 15:09

Yep there's afew in my area doing it.
It's the last Monday, 1.5 missed what's the harm

EnglishGirlApproximately · 09/07/2021 15:09

Yes we've just had an email after loads of parents have spent the morning batching about the school for not doing it. I'm broadly supportive of the football themed day they're planning for Monday - with so many things being missed in the last year I'm glad they're grabbing fun where they can. Don't see the need for starting late, I'd assume most parents like us will be going to work as normal so DS will ve there at the normal time. Looks like people planning to phone in sick to work and keep the kids off for a couple of hours so they can sleep it off.

Brainmuddled · 09/07/2021 15:09

Our school is doing it and I think it’s good. My child wants to watch it and I’d rather they were rested afterwards to do well at school through the rest of the day. It’s one morning and it’s fun, why complain about it,

AnxiousAndUnraveling · 09/07/2021 15:12

I actually think this is a nice thing to do especially as it’s nearly the end of term. It’s not as if they’re forcing everyone to come in at 10.30. These are the sort of things kids remember. I have really fond memories of watching football games with my family even though we didn’t win.

bellsbuss · 09/07/2021 15:13

Nothing as yet but my children will be going in late.

0blio · 09/07/2021 15:13

You beat me to it @Whatwouldscullydo

Sleepinghyena · 09/07/2021 15:14

Op, you have included the school's name. You may want to get this edited out.

BiBabbles · 09/07/2021 15:15

Not heard anything. I wouldn't mind, but I'm not expecting it.

The head in the letter is also incorrect, as Whatwouldscullydo pointed out. If I was in a mood and willing to be that parent, I might question if they'll make the same exception and discussion of learning experiences the next time the women's football team makes it that far.

Bitofachinwag · 09/07/2021 15:16

It's only "acceptable" because it's a popular sport. If my child stayed up late to watch a more niche sport and arrived at school at 10.30 I bet that wouldn't be seen as a "learning opportunity".

2tired2bewitty · 09/07/2021 15:17

I think Rossmere are the school in Hartlepool that came up with the idea originally, rather than op’s school.
AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 09/07/2021 15:17

@Sleepinghyena that's not my daughters school. That's the school that I've seen plastered all over Facebook today, I think they started it and other schools have followed suit.

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 09/07/2021 15:17

Mine is going to feel it a major injustice that they have you go in on time - the irony being that I work at a school so won't have the option to let them have a lie in!

SpringRainbow · 09/07/2021 15:18

If they have they haven’t told us yet.

I would be surprised if they do.

Sleepinghyena · 09/07/2021 15:19

Ah, ok. Glad you have not identified your school x

Whatwouldscullydo · 09/07/2021 15:19

My primary child is at home du to class bubble.closure we haven't been told yet of they can skip.morning meeting like the rest if the school can in class

Chilver · 09/07/2021 15:21

I might be inclined to point out what others here have already said which is it's the first time the MEN's team have made it in 55 years, and then also point out that the learning opportunity might be for whoever wrote the communication to learn the correct use of an apostrophe and edit the quote so it makes sense....

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 09/07/2021 15:22

not seen anything, but I wish they did!

if not for the kids' sake then mine; I was buzzing until 3am after the Wednesday game so was totally knackered yesterday. 🤣
I could've done with sleeping in.

I hope lots of people have written to them about their apostrophe abuses!
