I just got this email from my daughters school, apparently a lot of schools are doing it by what I've seen on Facebook today!

Is your school letting kids come to school late on Monday?

My younger dc's primary school are. Haven't heard anything from the secondary. My dc aren't bothered about watching the match so will be going to bed at normal time.

@0blio

They failed to say its only the mens team that hasn't made it in 55 years.

You beat me to it @Whatwouldscullydo

Our school:

Not allowing children / teachers in late
Sent a note with correct spelling and grammar!
Also mentioned that it's the men's team

I think it's ok if some schools are allowing this, but glad mine isn't, as I still have to work as usual as need to drop the children off!

Roomba · 09/07/2021 17:36

Not my kids' schools. Mind you, DS2 is isolating until midnight Monday anyway so won't be in school anyway. Good job as our neighbours have had a very loud, late party with around 50 people screaming drunkenly at the top of their lungs, just outside DS's bedroom window, for each match so far. So DS2 won't be getting to sleep early anyway. And DS1 is usually up that late now anyway.

I'm somehow not surprised that a school willing to send parents that poorly-punctuated, badly-written 'letter', has such a lax attitude to timekeeping 🙄
I think enough quarter has been given in the name of mental health. My children will probably watch, but they'll get to school on time, as per.

Sometimesonly · 09/07/2021 17:37

"I was laying on the bed". Were you? Must be interesting being part human and part chicken.

It is actually quite worrying that schools seem to have no qualms in putting out messages with glaring errors when they are supposed to be teaching those same grammar rules.

SimonJT · 09/07/2021 17:37

My sons primary school is allowing children to come to school later, they have done it for a few things, I’m trying to remember the last one.

My son wants to watch it, but he isn’t great at staying up, so we’ll probably have him sleep on the sofa and wake him up for the end of the match.

Sometimesonly · 09/07/2021 17:39

it could potentially drag out until about 10.30 pm, which is past bedtime for most primary aged kids, especially infants
I guess. We're watching in Italy so an hour later and nobody is complaining about the time although tbf schools broke up a month ago so not really an issue.

Yubaba · 09/07/2021 17:39

Ours have sent the same message!
The high schoolers aren’t happy, they have to be in at 8:40 as normal Grin

Similar letter from our head today too! Grin

newnametothegame · 09/07/2021 17:42

Yes, 10am start on Monday for both my kids (different schools)

StillWaters77 · 09/07/2021 17:44

I say let them watch the first half then they go to bed. Record the rest and if we win let them watch the last 30mins of the match before school the following morning. If we lose don't let them watch it just tell them.
That'll be my solution anyway.

skodadoda · 09/07/2021 17:45
@Whatwouldscullydo this is the one my friend’s school sent out Grin
Should say ‘lie in’ not ‘lay in’. I hate the way ‘lay’ is misused 😡

MrsDThomas · 09/07/2021 17:46

Not my kid’s school.

But im not in England. Should Italy win, maybe they will 🤷🏼‍♀️

silvergoldstars · 09/07/2021 17:46

I think it’s nice .

FourTeaFallOut · 09/07/2021 17:47

Our school are giving the option to roll in late without penalty and, while my ds will be in on time, I don't see how it's less really that big of a deal given how productive they typically are on the last week at school.

SheldonandAmy · 09/07/2021 17:47

Wow I can't believe how many people are whinging about 1.5 hours of missed school on the last week of term (or almost last week for some schools).

It's an event that probably won't happen again in our life times judging by track record, if it happened so often then it wouldn't warrant it. It's nice everyone can find some fun after Covid and people should lighten up a bit.

NotKeenOnFootball · 09/07/2021 17:48

Twenty-two overpaid Prima Donnas kicking a dead cow around!

LadyPenelope68 · 09/07/2021 17:49

It’s a football game, ridiculous to change school start times just because of that. Barmy.

Schools are starting at the same time as normal.

Parents simply have the option to send their children in later if they wish.

ahoyshipmates · 09/07/2021 17:55

Will they be doing the same for other late night sporting events, or is it just football that has this ridiculous effect on people?

And as for it being an opportunity to learn about the National Anthems of different countries, they should have been taught that already.

gillysSong · 09/07/2021 17:57

Thought they finished today?
Our park was full of kids, could be those isolating though.

badlydrawnbear · 09/07/2021 17:57

Apparently so (I posted a couple of hours ago to say I expected very short notice as is usual from the school, but they have now confirmed DC can come at normal start time or 10.30). My DC have absolutely no interest in football and won't stay up to watch, but they and DH might take advantage and have a lie in anyway. I won't be home from work until after 9am so it is up to DH when he takes them.

moynomore · 09/07/2021 18:01

Most private schools have finished.
SeeYouInFive · 09/07/2021 18:01

Our school is doing it. I think it’s nice. It’s been such a shitty, strange year for the kids. It’s lovely to give them a little treat like that. It’s only an hour late start, hardly like they’re going to be missing advanced calculus.

Midnightballerina · 09/07/2021 18:07

Schools do something nice for kids. Let the bitching & whinging commence on mumsnet. This football tournament has really got the fun sponges going eh!.
